PENNSBURY 16, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 13
Lily Nolan scored a team-high six goals to lead the Falcons to their third win in their last five games.
"In the beginning of the season, we had a lot of injuries to starters, so we were going game to game where our lineup was consistently inconsistent," coach Christie Cooper said. "We went from having a good amount of experience to having only three or four players on the field that had varsity experience, so we had a lot of growing pains at the beginning of the season.
"The good thing is they were always positive, they continued to work hard, and they never put their heads down. We'd have games where we'd be a team that would show up and fall flat, and then we started to have these games where they came out and would do the things they know how to do. They would have a game plan, and they executed it. That's made a lot of difference."
The Falcons, who have been without veteran defender Isabel Glace for all except two games this season, have three freshmen in their starting lineup and also a good number of sophomores.
"It's been a lot of young players gaining experience, which is great for the next two or three years, but it's been hard," Cooper said. "Luckily, we have some senior leadership, and they pulled through."
Shore went on to credit several players for stepping to the fore.
"Senior Sarah Brenzinger really has stepped up to lead on the field," the Falcons' coach said. "Sophomores Annie Price and Lily Nolan have really stepped up – Lily on attack and Annie with her defense."
Missy Frankil had a hand in seven goals, finishing with four goals and three assists. Sarah Benzinger added three goals and one assist. Contributing one goal each were Annie Price, Brooke Weaver and Camille Mumford. Nell Webber had one assist.
For the Golden Hawks, Sarah Womer had a big game, finishing with five goals and two assists. Hannah Inchausti had two goals and one assist, and Dom Marino added a pair of goals. Adding one goal each were Neena Culleton, Anna DiDonato, Emily Keller and Mary Kate Simpson. MiKayla VanAken chipped in one assist.
