SOUDERTON 13, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 12
Souderton rebounded from Tuesday’s heartbreaking 12-11 loss to Central Bucks West to edge a vastly improved Central Bucks East squad. With the win, the Indians clinched a share of their second consecutive conference crown.
“I keep telling the girls – a champion is still a champion regardless if you share it or not,” assistant coach Lauren Whiteside said. “At this point, for us to be champions in this league is a proud moment for us.
“Our league is extremely hard, and West is a really great team. To share it with them is really an honor for us, and for us to be repeat champions – many teams can’t say that. It’s really huge for us.
“Our season has been a lot harder than it was last year for us, and we had to fight harder this year for our wins, which makes this year’s championship even better for us. Having that loss to West – although it was heartbreaking, I think it will help us in playoffs. I think it will help us learn, help us grow. West is a great team.”
The Indians – who took a 6-4 lead into halftime – had their hands full against an East squad that brought a four-game winning streak into the contest.
“I think we were really excited, a little too excited going into the first half,” Whiteside said. “We kind of lost our catching (ability) in the beginning, and I think that’s what the halftime score reflected, although CB East is good, and they definitely are gaining speed in the league.
“At halftime, we realized we needed to keep our composure and play the game the way we know how to play and pass to each other and feed each other. I don’t know if we changed much, but it might have just opened our eyes a little bit. We played at the speed we know how to play, and it opened up the door.”
The Patriots didn’t go down quietly, and it took a heroic effort by Souderton goalie Kelly Williams (nine saves) down the stretch to preserve the win.
“Kelly came up huge for us at the end of the game,” Whiteside said. “Her head was in it. You could tell she was focused.
“(East) had about three eight-meter shots at the end, and our defense did a good job of getting in there and trying to get a piece of it, but Kelly took up the whole goal cage and really stopped those last three shots.”
The Indians were without Brittany Roynan, who was recuperating from a collision in the preceding night’s game against CB West, but leading the way was senior Amber Lambeth with four goals and one assist. Krista Schneider added a hat trick while Natalie Bulgier had two goals and one assist. Kyra Shank contributed a pair of goals, and Carlie Doughty had a goal and assist while Ally Sonn had one goal.
The Patriots were led by freshman Riley Donnelly’s stellar six-goal, one-assist performance.
“She had a fantastic game,” coach Kelly White said.
Betty Wesney and Courtney Narkoff both had two goals while Maggie Vetter added one goal and one assist and Bella Ridolfi had one goal.
Goalie Alana Rivas turned away 13 shots for the Patriots.
“It was a great game, and the girls have improved so much,” White said.
Souderton closed out conference play with an 8-1 record (16-3 overall) while CB East was 4-5 in league play (6-10 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 15, PENNSBURY 8
Any concerns that the Bucks might have a letdown after their dramatic win over Souderton 24 hours earlier were put the rest when they sprinted to a 10-4 HALFTIME lead. The Bucks never looked back, rolling to a Senior Night win at War Memorial Field to clinch a share of their first conference championship since 2001.
“The girls came out strong tonight and saw each other well,” coach Tara Schmucker said. “We solidified being conference co-champs tonight, and that was the ultimate goal.
“I think having this win and being named champs simultaneously is appropriate given that our senior leadership has been a major factor in our success. They set a goal at the start of the school year and achieved that goal. They have remained focused, and despite some ups and downs, they never gave up this season. They are a special group of girls, and the seniors have helped guide our young team.”
Senior Meghan Tillger (four goals, three assists), senior Jacq Fitzgerald (three goals, two assists), sophomore Bryn Boylan (four goals, one assist) and senior Elle Ueland (two goals, three assists) led a balanced West attack. Finley Ueland added a goal and an assist while Maddie Maio added a goal.
