American Conference
Wissahickon 16, Upper Moreland 1
There was never any doubt on Friday when Wissahickon and Upper Moreland squared off in an early-season conference meeting.
Thanks to four goals from Jack Shea, the Trojans were able to improve to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a 15-goal win over the visiting Bears in a game that was moved to Wissahickon High because of poor field conditions at Upper Moreland.
“Jack has been one of our best offensive producers so far this season,” Wissahickon coach Dan Layfield said. “He’s a solid captain, and he makes the right decisions and the right looks. He’s been playing very well lately, he’s getting better with his shooting and I expect big things from him the rest of the year.”
Nate DeGroat added a pair of goals for the Trojans, who also saw freshman John Dickson tally his first ever varsity goal.
“It was a step in the right direction,” Layfield said. “Coming off a tough loss to Great Valley in a game where we didn’t play well and had a lot of turnovers, we really regrouped as a team and the offense started to click. We really started to find the correct looks and made the right plays.”
Sophomore John Esposito also saw his first varsity action this year, scoring a pair of goals for the Trojans. Kyle Wolf scored once for Wissahickon, and Nick Pak won 13 of 18 face-offs.
Wissahickon goalkeeper Jack Meyers stopped six shots to earn the win. Wissahickon led 5-1 after one quarter and took 11-1 lead into the half on its way to the big win.
“Jack Meyers is our leading defender and he’s been strong this year,” Layfield said. “He hasn’t allowed more than five goals yet, and he’s a great goalie who is really coming into his own in the middle of his senior year.”
Upper Moreland fell to 0-2 overall and in conference play.
Upper Moreland 1-0-0-0—1

Springfield 11, Norristown 2
A big first half allowed Springfield to cruise against visiting Norristown, propelling the Spartans to their first win of the season.
Ryan Donofry scored three times to lead the way for Springfield (1-2, 1-2), while Jack Gizzard scored twice.
“It’s always nice to get your first win,” Springfield coach Hank Resch said. “I would say today was a step in the right direction. Ryan Donofry played very well and he’s a senior who has worked very hard through his career here. He’s the captain and he brings good leadership to a team that has a lot of young guys on it. He is playing very well.”
Nick Bond and Chris Manshein each scored a goal for Springfield, while Colin O’Hara stopped six shots in net. Defensively, the Spartans got a great effort out of sophomore George Baughan, who is already committed to play lacrosse at Syracuse.
“George is a great player who still has a lot of potential,” Resch said. “Colin played well in net, but the entire defense played well. He did a good job of saving the ball, but I thought the defense controlled the amount of shots and the quality of shots he saw.”
The Eagles fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Norristown 1-0-1-0—2

Souderton 7, Interboro 6
Greg Gibbs led the way with a pair of goals and a pair of assists for Souderton as the Indians got past Interboro by the slimmest of margins in an evening affair at Souderton Area High School.
Souderton (1-1, 0-1) led 1-0 after one quarter, but Interboro came back with five goals in the second, outscoring the Indians 5-4 in the frame to knot the score 5-5 at the half. Both teams remained tied after a scoreless third quarter, but Souderton outscored their visitors 2-1 in the fourth quarter to eke out the win.
“It’s very relieving to get the first win,” Souderton coach Mark Princehorn said. “A lot of people don’t know this, but we had a very abysmal end to the year last year, so this feels really good and really relieving to have turned things around and get in the win column. It’s a good feeling and I’m happy for the seniors and happy they really stepped up in a positive direction.”
The win ended a seven-game losing streak for the Indians.
Jake Phaup added a pair of goals for Souderton, while Cordell Armstrong, Jeremy Biggans and Trent Breneman all scored one goal apiece. Armstrong also added an assist, while goalkeeper Remi Reeves led the way on defense with 10 saves.
“Remi deserves special credit with the way he played,” Princehorn said. “He had an amazing game and came up with a ton of saves and athletic plays all over the defensive end to allow us some offensive opportunities in transition. He really stepped up for us.”
Defenseman Kyle Curran led the Indians with five groundballs.
“Hopefully, more positives come from this win,” Princehorn said.

Central Bucks South 15, Hatboro-Horsham 11
A big first quarter and a huge third allowed the Titans to escape Hatboro-Horsham High School with a n important win in a night game between conference foes.
After taking a 5-2 lead into the second quarter, CB South found itself tied at 6-6 going into the half. But in the third, the Titans outscored the Hatters 6-1 to take a 12-7 lead into the final 12 minutes.
“It’s always great to get the first win (in the Suburban One League),” CB South coach Mike Sharman said. “Hatboro-Horsham is a great program, and it’s just great for our kids to win early in the season. We haven’t had much practice on fields, and after practicing on (parking) lots and in gyms and to go out and beat a great team like that is a huge accomplishment for the kids.”
The Titans never trailed. Hatboro-Horsham (2-1, 1-1) cut its deficit to 13-10 in the fourth after trailing 13-7, but the Titans scored the game’s next two goals.
Chris Tanner led the way with three goals and four assists for CB South, while Evan Falkowski scored three goals and added a pair of assists. Brendan McGrath also scored three times. Jake Henze finished with two goals, two assists and six groundballs. Ryan Jacobsen, who dominated on face-offs, also scooped up six groundballs.
“Ryan did a great job for us,” Sharman said. “He was clearly controlling the ball on face-offs for us.”

Tanner has now scored 16 goals in CB South’s first three games this year, helping the Titans to a 3-0 overall record, 2-0 in the conference.
“I’ve got a really strong, positive senior class and they believe in each other,” Sharman said. “They’re really good leaders and they play so well together. There are no individuals out there. It’s purely team offense and team defense, and it’s just a great group of kids.”

Central Bucks West 12, Pennridge 3
Despite playing down a man a number of times, Central Bucks West rolled to an impressive win over Pennridge.
The host Bucks received three goals apiece from Will Ross and Reece Udinski in a nine-goal drubbing of the Rams, helping CB West to its first conference win of the season.
A six-goal second quarter did Pennridge in, as CB West took a 9-3 lead into the half and never looked back.
“Overall, it’s great to get that first conference win in the Continental,” CB West coach Matt Coverdale said. “We could’ve executed a little sharper and I thought tonight we played a little sloppy and maybe a little selfish at times, but the kids played through it against a very scrappy Pennridge team that is always hustling every single play and always playing a very physical game. We were very pleased to get the win.”
Ross scored twice in the first quarter, while Udinski scored twice in the second. Jason Willis scored two goals for CB West, as did Clark Hawes. Morgan Kratzke also scored once for the Bucks, while Shane Early scored their final goal.
Luke Durkin had a great night on face-offs, winning 14 of 19 on the ‘X’ for CB West. Steve Hogan stopped 11 shots in goal, while Asher Mithoefer stopped one after coming in to guard the net late in the game.
“Steve Hogan played well on defense to keep Pennridge at bay,” Coverdale said. “It made it a more difficult evening for them.
“Our poles Patrick Kiel and his brother Tim Kiel did a real nice job. Patrick is a strong left-handed player that can make problems, so he matched up pretty well against his man. Tim played very well off the wing on face-offs.”
The Rams fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
