Girls
North Penn 9, Central Bucks East 8
The Maidens took a 6-5 lead into the intermission only to watch the Patriots score three unanswered goals out of halftime to go on top 8-6 before the Maidens rallied for the win.
“I have to give them credit – they played a good game,” North Penn coach Heather Mellow said of the Patriots. “She (coach Kelly White) has a young team, and they’re going to be good.
“Their goalkeeper (Alana Rivas) had a nice game.
Rivas had 12 saves for the Patriots and also was a factor with her clears.
“She had the most ridiculous goalie clear I’ve ever seen,” Mellow said. “Nobody was putting pressure on her, and she started walking. She tossed it to a girl at the other 12, and they had a two-on-one.”
The Maidens received a standout effort from their goalie as well. Michelle Dyck – on the heels of a 16-save effort in the team’s win over Central Bucks South – had another big day, finishing with 14 saves.
“It was down to Michelle making huge saves for us,” Mellow said. “It wasn’t that my defense played poorly because I don’t think they did.
“I thought they played solid defense, but it was just down to fundamental errors, and it crushed us.”
Offensively, senior Emily Schulze, who finished with five goals, stole the spotlight. It was Schulze saving the day after the Patriots went on top 8-6 with 18 minutes remaining, connecting for a goal a minute later and then scoring the tying goal with 11 minutes remaining. Lauren Moore connected on the go-ahead goal with nine minutes remaining. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
“It was not North Penn caliber of play,” Mellow said. “The team needs to get it together because we’re about to head into a very tough portion of our schedule.
“It’s going to get ugly quick if they can’t pull together as a team.”
Also contributing single goals for the Maidens were Sydney Lear, Bri O’Donnell and Chloe Novak.
For the Patriots, Riley Donnelly had a big game, finishing with four goals. Katelyn Stout added a pair, and Bella Ridolfi and Sara Donnelly each had one goal. Mel Brian had two assists.

“I'm very proud of how the girls played today,” coach Kelly Kelly said. “They went into the game knowing Henderson would be a tough competitor.
