HARRY S TRUMAN 2, CAMDEN CATHOLIC 1
The Tigers – displaying a flare for the dramatic – used a goal by Ilyas Nashid with 16 seconds remaining to earn the thrilling non-league victory. The win was the fourth in non-league play for the Tigers, who do not have a win in conference play.
“It’s good because you can see – especially as the season goes on – the frustration building with the players,” coach Jack Kinloch said. “At times, they don’t realize we are a pretty good team.
“We just play in such an incredibly difficult conference, and it can get demoralizing. When we play a team right around our level, we usually do very well with them because we’re getting better playing against these very, very good teams.
“When you look at our schedule, and eight of your games are against teams that are going to be in districts and most of them are going to be in the top eight and get a bye, it’s a challenge. When things aren’t going your way, that challenge can be daunting.”
Earlier, it was Nashid breaking a scoreless tie when he buried a penalty kick 15 minutes into the second half. With six minutes remaining, the Fighting Irish came back to knot the score on a goal by Kyle Cooney.
Overtime appeared inevitable, but Nashid had other ideas, finding the net with the game winner with 16 seconds remaining.
“It was a really nice combination,” Kinloch said. “Diego Rodriguez played to Bader Fask. He touched it through to Ilhan Zivali.
“He drove it across the face of goal, and it was a great run by Ilyas. Ilhan played the ball with such pace that I didn’t think Ilyas would get there, but he did. He slid in to tap it home. Our attacking players – Diego (Rodriguez), Bader (Fask) and Ilyas (Nashid) especially – played very, very well the last 35 minutes of the game and created multiple chances. We just couldn’t seem to finish any. We hit the cross bar, missed a wide open net right after they scored, but we did really well in the last minute to create another chance to get the win and not go in for overtime.”
Kinloch tipped his hat to Camden Catholic’s keeper.
“He is outstanding,” the Tigers’ coach said. “He’s like our Fernando (Mendez) the last couple of years.
“He made a couple of really good saves to keep them in the game – one of them off a free kick by Diego Rodriguez. We kept playing, we didn’t stop, we didn’t get frustrated, even when we gave up the goal. At that point, we were enjoying a really good spell, and then the counter attack and it’s in the back of the net. The guys didn’t get their heads down. It looked like we were probably going to go to overtime. Luckily, we didn’t.”
Harry S Truman (4-11, 0-10 SOL) will host Central High School in a non-league contest on Monday.

SOUDERTON 2, WILLIAM TENNENT 1
The Indians found themselves trailing 1-0 when the Panthers broke a scoreless tie with 22 minutes remaining, scoring on a cross that was deflected by the keeper. The Indians answered with a pair of goals to eke out the win.
“We dominated the game but could not convert our chances – we must have had a hundred shots over the bar and a hundred crosses that went straight to the goalkeeper,” coach Chris Felber said. “We kept doing what we were doing, knowing that we would eventually score.”
With 10 minutes remaining Tori Dowd had a hard shot at goal that was fumbled by the goalie and rebounded by Ali Trick, who found the net to knot the score. With just over five minutes remaining, Bre Derenzi had a breakaway down the middle and finished it off with a goal into the top left corner.
“With the clock ticking down, Bre Derinzi scores a goal-of-the-season contender – a top corner shot from the edge of the 18,” Felber said. “Bre picked the ball up in the middle, beat a player and started driving to the goal, finishing with a beautiful shot.”
Souderton (7-4-3, 6-2-2 SOL) will travel to Cheltenham for a non-league game on Monday and then will host Central Bucks West on Tuesday.
Souderton 0-2 2
William Tennent 0-1 1
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 1 (2 OT)
The Patriots entered the week clinging to the 23rd spot in the most recent district power rankings. They helped their cause with a 2-0-1 week, capping the week with a tie on the road against a Henderson squad that was ranked 10th.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the 28th minute when Hannah Zach (Riley Kane assist) scored from 30 yards out on a bullet of a shot. They took that 1-0 lead into halftime, but Henderson knotted the score with a goal by Kate Gordon at the 53rd minute.
A pair of overtimes could not determine a winner.
“East had the majority of play in the first half and first overtime,” coach Paul Eisold said. “Henderson had a great game plan in the second half and had the better of play in the second overtime.
“Delaney Kennedy, Riley Kane, Bri Talbot, Izzy Hunter and Hannah Zach played tough in the midfield.”
Central Bucks East (8-6-2, 6-4-1 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks South for a key conference battle on Thursday night (7 p.m.).

“We had a great first half – quality goals, good defending and solid goalkeeping,” coach Ike Onyeador said. “In the second half, they put a lot of pressure on us, so we had to weather that storm, but overall, the girls played well, and we hope to continue with that level of play.”
The Hatters were 28th in last week’s 4A District Power Rankings, and the Mount was ranked fourth in the 3A rankings.
