PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 1
On a day when many teams were closing out their schedules with non-league games, the Lady Rams found themselves in a high stakes game with Quakertown, playing for their sixth consecutive crown.
The Lady Rams took care of business, opening up a 3-0 lead on their way to the win that clinched sole possession of first place.
“It was hard – we had three games this week,” said coach Audrey Anderson, who has been at the helm for the last three title runs. “I just know the girls wanted this so badly.
“They had it in their hands, they talked about it, and they said, ‘We just have to get through one more game.’ They look at every game as a must-win, and that’s what is great about these girls – they don’t look at any team as if ‘Oh, we’re going to beat this team.’
“They know every time they go out there they just have to play soccer. If they play good soccer, they’ll most likely win the game.”
Scoring goals for the Lady Rams were Katie Fisher (Erin Stevenson assist), Megan Hirschbuhl (Jess Milligan assist) and Stevenson (Savanna Harrison assist).
The Lady Panthers got on the scoreboard in the final two minutes with a goal by Haley Dulis (Linzi Wolfe assists).
Anderson, who was attending a funeral, was not on the sidelines for most of the game.
“I’m so confident that my assistant and the team would do a good job,” she said. “I was happy when I walked up and saw 3-0. Even though they scored in the last two minutes – I was happy for them.
“Every team is going to have a letdown. They’re exhausted. It’s the end of a tough season. I’m hoping this weekend they can recover and we have a bye and can get back to work on Monday.”
Pennridge closed out its regular season with an 11-1-2 record in league play (14-1-3 overall) while Quakertown was 2-11-1 in the league (3-13-1 overall).
