SOUDERTON 1, DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY 0
It felt like old times.
A reminder of what at one time was an annual meeting between the neighboring schools, attracting a packed house for spirited contests.
“It was a great crowd tonight,” coach Matt Benner said. “It reminded me a lot of some of the games we used to play 10-15 years ago with all the members of my staff.
“Obviously, (Dock coach) Matt Moyer has been there a long time. I said to him after the game, ‘That was a great high school soccer game, a great atmosphere, two good teams going at it.’ It was a really, really fun experience to be part of. A lot of the boys know each other from playing together in club. Both teams treated the fans to a good high school soccer game. It was very intense, it was very physical, and end to end kind of stuff.”
Ben Lare scored the game’s only goal in the final minute of the opening half.
“I was really impressed with how organized Dock Academy was,” Benner said. “Coach Moyer had those guys ready to play. They were really, really well disciplined, and they made it hard for us to create chances early on. Every time you play his team, you know what you’re going to get, and tonight was no exception.
“We ended up scoring a goal right before halftime off of a restart. I thought we were dangerous on set pieces for most of the night. Full credit to them. They battled – their kids played really, really hard and caused us concern. In the early stages of the game, they had a couple of chances. Aidan McClure had to make a save or two, but as the game went on, I felt we kind of found our way into the game, played through our midfield and were able to get some chances.”
Saturday’s shutout was the fourth straight for the Indians, and Benner credited his backline – Tyson Bui, Tyler Bovell, Thomas Smith and Ryan Schewe – and goalkeeper Aidan McClure for turning in another strong outing.
“None of them came off the field,” the Indians’ coach said. “The thing that we pride ourselves on is trying to keep other teams off the board, and our defense is what enables us to have a foothold in every game because they win first balls, they’re organized, they’re physical and athletic, and they give us the foundation to get forward and create and try and get results.”
Souderton (6-1-2, 4-1-2 SOL) will host Neshaminy on Monday at 5 p.m.

ARCHBISHOP WOOD 1, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0
The Hatters celebrated Senior Night, and all 11 seniors – Kyle Allgeier, Mason DeLuca, Jack Elwell, Tommy Harmon, Lucas Howieson, Caleb Hudson, Nick Katherine, Christian Rombola, Aiden Scattergood, Nathan Scavo and Ryan Toporowski – were in the starting lineup in Saturday night’s non-league contest against neighboring Archbishop Wood.
“It was our Senior Night, so there was a great crowd, a great atmosphere against Archbishop Wood, who is one of the best teams in the Philadelphia Catholic League,” HH coach Kyle McGrath said. “It was just a really good game. They scored an early goal off of a free kick.
“I thought we responded well and played well the last 60 minutes of the game and just were unable to capitalize on our opportunities.”
Wood scored a goal that turned out to be the game-winner five minutes into the contest.
“We settled down a little bit after the first 20 minutes and we held good possession, we were dangerous, but we weren’t able to capitalize on a couple of good chances,” McGrath said. “A couple of half chances, they cleared out. Credit to them for coming on the road and getting a result against us.”
The Hatters’ coach was pleased with his team’s showing.
“My center backs – Caleb Hudson and Jacob Kim – performed well,” McGrath said. “My center mids – Ryan Toporowski and Jake Freedman – I say it every game, but they were two of the better players on the field.
“All my seniors – they’ve had a really great four-year run so far, and hopefully, we can continue that the rest of the season.

WISSAHICKON 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 0
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead into halftime and added a pair of second-half goals to earn the non-league win.
Wissahickon got on the scoreboard with a goal from Kylie Friedman on a Natalie Ryan corner. That 1-0 advantage held until the second half when Lexi Hobson scored after some nice work on the right flank by Sage Stelzer. The third goal came on a solid finish by Margaret Wilde on a ball played in by Friedman.
“(We) played a strong 80 minutes today,” coach Chris McDaniels said. “The keeper and back line were very good, especially at winning balls in the air on some dangerous set piece and corner opportunities for LC.”
Wissahickon (7-2-1, 6-1-1 SOL) will host Cheltenham on Monday.
