COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 2, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 1
The Indians won their third game of the season without a loss, downing the Vikings in a non-league contest.
Josh Gould, according to coach Joe Stackhouse, was the man of the match.
“He scored what would be the game-winner with the clock expiring for the first half,” Stackhouse said.
North played the final 10 minutes of the match down two men due to two red cards.
“Gould also was instrumental in holding down the Wood power play attack over that last span of time, forcing the Wood defenders to slow their attack out of the back,” Stackhouse said.
Junior goalkeeper Toby Wyckoff, according to the Indians’ coach, was stellar in those minutes as well in his role, making three saves.”
North opened the scoring in the first 15 minutes on a series of head balls played off a restart throw-in. A long throw into the box ended with Windsor Varady heading to Ari Pollack, who finished it off. Gould’s goal, according to Stackhouse, was off a nifty short pass by Jack Randolph for the go-ahead goal with six seconds left in the half.
North held a 17-5 shot advantage over Wood and a 12-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Council Rock North (3-0, 2-0 SOL) will host rival Council Rock South on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a battle of unbeaten teams.

ARCHBISHOP RYAN 1, ABINGTON 0
Less than 24 hours after a grueling double overtime 1-0 win over Hatboro-Horsham, the Ghosts found themselves back on the field for a 10 a.m. start Friday.
“Last Friday was our opener with CB East – we played four games in eight days, and the killer was yesterday’s game going almost a hundred minutes and then coming back this morning,” Abington coach Randy Garber said. “Archbishop Ryan is a good scrappy, hard-nosed team. They missed a penalty kick in the first 10 minutes of the game that they should have scored on, and then they scored a heck of a goal 20-25 minutes into the first half.”
That 1-0 score stood the rest of the way.
“They just played good defense and marked well,” Garber said. “Obviously, Ryan Haney is a very good coach and had them organized. The last two games we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
“We had plenty of chances. The first three minutes we had a chance right on the six-yard line, and we hit it over the bar. It could have changed the whole complexion of the game, and we missed the whole entire goal. It wasn’t that we didn’t have chances – we did. We subbed a lot, but we just ran out of gas. We’ll get back. We had a little bit of a fumble, but we’ll be all right.”
Garber has more than a passing acquaintance with the Crusaders’ coach.
“I coached Ryan when he was with ODP when it was ODP before the Academy came in,” the Ghosts’ coach said. “He’s an excellent coach and was a very good player. He did a heck of a job.
“Any time you play a Catholic League school, they’re going to be scrappy. They’re hard-nosed kids, and they work hard. They defended well, and their goalkeeper again – everything we shot, he saved. He had a heck of a game.”
Abington (3-1, 2-0 SOL) will host Upper Dublin on Wednesday.

CHELTENHAM 6, MASTERY CHARTER 2
The Lady Panthers picked up their second win on the young season Friday, blowing open a 2-2 tie with four unanswered goals to close out the game.
“We got the quick start that we wanted and scored in the first 20 seconds of the game,” coach Leah Matusow said. “Mikki Carrera sent a through ball past their defensive line, and Maleah Kaplan scored.
“After that goal, it seemed like our energy dropped a little bit and the rest of the first half was very back and forth.”
Mastery tied the game 1-1 on a shot from Kyleigh Murphy.
“She was a player we had to be aware of all game,” Matusow said. “We came back and scored as Sydney Holland kept the pressure on inside their 18 to go up 2-1. A few minutes later, Murphy worked past our defense and tied it up 2-2.”
With two minutes remaining in the half, Holland scored her second goal of the game.
“She used her skill to work around their keeper to put us up 3-2,” Matusow said. “At halftime, we regrouped and knew that we had to raise our level of play and energy. Our entire team did that and we played a great second half.
“All week at practice we have stressed the importance of the little things: first touch, communication, good passes, and keeping our energy up. In the second half it showed that those little things can lead to big things, which for us was three more goals and a shutout on the other end.”
Mikki Carrera connected on a pair of goals – one unassisted and one an assist from Maya Schwartz.
“Mikki’s speed was something we really wanted to utilize this game and I think we did a good job of that,” Matusow said. “With about 18 minutes left in the half, we had a counterattack that led to Ella King controlling the ball outside the box, making a nice pass to Ciara Rodriguez who fired a shot with her left foot past their keeper.
“Today was a physical game, but I felt like we kept our composure and continued to work our game plan and got into a nice flow especially in the second half. Our defense did a great job of holding their line today and communicating with each other. From our goalkeeper Amaya Washington to our back line of Tabitha Sterman, Lily Wilden, Morgan Kelly, Addiya Chan and Robin Miller, there was lots of positive talk and having each other’s backs. It’s also been great to see our freshmen stepping up and getting more comfortable in their positions. I thought Ava Washington and Tessa Homa did a great job in the midfield today. Overall, it was a great team win, and we want to continue to build together next week”
Cheltenham (2-1, 0-1 SOL) will host William Tennent on Wednesday.

LOWER MORELAND 3, DOCK MENNONITE 2
The Lions picked up an impressive come-from-behind non-league win.
“It was a good win,” LM coach Todd Hill said. “We went down in the first half 1-0 but played with resilience – which seems to be a character trait of our team.”
After Dock took an early lead, Nikki Sahl evened the score with a nice feed from Morgan Pennisi to go into halftime 1-1.
“In the second half Dock was pretty aggressive and it took us a while to regain some possession but eventually we settled in,” Hill said. “At that point Nikki returned the favor by giving Morgan a ball that she placed in the side of the net to go up 2-1. But Dock came back and evened the score.
“With a few minutes left in the game, it looked like another possible overtime game until freshman defender Agnes Kroll served a ball to Kenna Rozanski at the top of the box that Kenna was able to serve over the goalie’s head and into the net to go ahead to stay.”
The Lions were missing several players who are nursing injuries.
“It was a game that many girls had to jump into spots and fill in gaps -so it was a real team win,” Hill said. “Kiera Huber did a good job logging a lot of minutes in the middle. Also, Kenna Rozanski, Morgan Pennisi and Nikki Sahl played really strong games as well putting pressure on Dock’s defense. It felt like a reset game for us, and we hope to build from it as we head into next week.”
Lower Moreland (1-1, 0-1 SOL) will host New Hope-Solebury Wednesday.
