Boys
HARRY S TRUMAN 6, UPPER MORELAND 1
The Tigers and Golden Bears battled to a 1-1 halftime tie, but any thoughts that this one would come down to the wire were put to rest quickly in the second half.
Diego Rodriguez put the Tigers on the board when he found the net with his first goal of the year in the 24th minute. That 1-0 lead held up for all of four minutes when the Golden Bears came back to tie it with a goal of their own.
“It was a very even first half,” Truman coach Jack Kinloch said. “Both teams attacked.
“Upper Moreland was better than us in possession and moving the ball around the field. They hit the post late in the first half and could have easily been up 2-1. The second half also was very cagey. Both teams had their chances.”
It was the Tigers who capitalized on those chances. Eight minutes into the second half, Badr Fask headed a long throw from CJ Week into the top corner. Four minutes later, Rodriguez played Edwin Teah in alone on the keeper, and Teah picked up his third goal of the season. Weed and Ilyas Nashid tallied goals within four minutes of each other to make it 5-1 with 15 minutes remaining. Rancy Slanger, a sophomore, connected for the sixth goal with 10 minutes remaining.
“The score line flattered us,” Kinloch said. “Upper Moreland was a game side.
“The difference was probably our experience. Four of our six goals came from our core of seniors (the Tigers start seven seniors). The bulk of UM’s starting squad are sophomores and juniors, and they will certainly continue to compete as they gain more experience.”
Harry S Truman (3-1, 0-1 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., and Upper Moreland (0-5, 0-2) will host Cheltenham on Tuesday.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 6, BISHOP McDEVITT 1
The Spartans continued their impressive early season run with a no-doubt-about-it non-league win over the Lancers.
Sam Steele put the Spartans on the board, using an assist from Troy Rumer, and it was 2-0 after an own goal. Rumer found the net with an assist from Louis Luongo, and then it was Anthony Forgione scoring back-to-back goals – the first with a Dylan Davis assist. Jose Haua (Davis assist) closed out the scoring with a goal.
Bishop McDevitt’s only goal was scored by Daniel Fiorella on a penalty kick.
Springfield Township (3-0, 2-0 SOL) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.
BOYERTOWN 3, PENNSBURY 1
It was the story of two halves when the Falcons traveled to Boyertown. Nine minutes into the game, the Falcons were awarded a penalty kick, and Obi Onouha made it count. Pennsbury took that 1-0 lead into halftime. The Bears knotted the score with a goal in the 53rd minute and closed it out with two more goals to earn the non-league win.
Pennsbury (3-1, 2-0 SOL) will return to action on Thursday when the Falcons will host Neshaminy in a battle of neighboring rivals at 3:30 p.m.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2, ABINGTON 1
The visiting Golden Hawks won a thriller over the Ghosts in a classic conference battle Monday.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead on an impressive Sammy Jones shot from outside the box only to watch the Ghosts score the equalizer on a beautifully-executed cross and header by Camryn Lexow, who continued her goal-scoring streak.
The two teams, according to Rock South coach Nick Heim, exchanged blows for the majority of the game until Allie Jones headed in a Jordi Rubakh cross for the win.
Heim credited goalie Emily Helmich for coming up with big saves.
“The midfield presence of Sammy Jones, Paige Mikula, Jordi Rubakh and Julie Rebh created opportunities on the offensive end,” Heim said.
Council Rock South (3-0, 2-0 SOL) will host Harry S Truman on Tuesday, and Abington (1-3, 0-2) will host Neshaminy on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 4, HATBORO-HORSHAM 2
The Panthers used a pair of second half goals to break away from a pesky Hatter squad that twice knotted the score.
Ashley Rivera scored on a penalty kick in the 12th minute to spot the Panthers an early lead, but sophomore Cam Hughes answered with a goal for the Hatters, using an assist from Madalyn Falcione. Gabby Sowers found the net in the 39th minute to send the Panthers into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Hughes once again knotted the score with her second goal of the game, this time with an assist from Kerryn MacBride, but Rivera scored on a free kick in the 52nd minute to give the Panthers a lead they would not lose. Becca Smith closed out the scoring with a nice assist from Olivia Miller.
Coach William Hontz credited Nikki Reh and Becca Smith for working hard in the midfield, and the Panthers’ coach lauded the outstanding play by his backline that included Danielle Scott, Liz Layer, Jenna Rodebaugh, Paige Schmidt, Lyndsay Mulholland and Brianna Broccardi.
William Tennent (3-1, 0-1 SOL) will travel to North Penn on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game, and Hatboro-Horsham (2-1, 2-0) will be on the road at Quakertown for a 7 p.m. contest.

UPPER MORELAND 6, NORRISTOWN 0
The visiting Golden Bears exploded for six first-half goals from six different players and went on to win by that score.
“It was a good team win for the Bears today,” coach Lisa Benvenuto said.
Just over nine minutes into the contest, Megan O’Donnell scored with an assist from Alexis Pamb, and the Bears were off and running. Jacklyn Martino (Amelia Przychowicz assist) scored three minutes later, and when Bridgid Ounan (Sarah Veneziale assist) found the net, the Bears led 3-0 midway through the first half.
Grace Burns turned a Martino assist into a goal, and then it was Przychowicz scoring with a Martino assist. Veneziale’s goal with a Shannon Moore assist in the closing minute of the half sent the Bears into the intermission with a 6-0 lead.
UM goalie Jen Storbrauck recorded her second shutout of the season. Norristown goalie Aliyah Walker-Benitez was credited with 11 saves.
