CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, SOUDERTON 2 (OT)
West’s Harrison Brownlow turned a pass from Richie Newell into a goal for the game-winner and the dramatic overtime win.
“Richie Newell did a fantastic job getting past his man and serving a ball to Harrison Brownlow on an absolute platter,” West coach Cooper Moyer said. “Harrison got on the end of it and with that there was a big sigh of relief from our sideline.
“Hats off to Souderton on the game they played and the energy they had especially after going down 2-0 early.”
It looked like the Bucks might be in command when they scored a pair of goals in the opening 25 minutes of the contest.
“We came out strong,” Moyer said. “Carter Philo was able to get on the end of a loose ball in the box and confidently stroked it in to give us a 1-0 lead.
“A few minutes later Chase Naso picked out Joey Dowd with a really nice ball, and Joey did a really nice job from distance – beat the goalkeeper to put us up 2-0 before the half. Then for the rest of regulation it felt like we were doing everything wrong and couldn’t get out of our own way at times. Between silly fouls, poor passes and over dribbling, it turned into the perfect storm and we conceded twice.”
Souderton cut the Bucks lead in half when Jake Luciani (Trent Weaver assist) scored in the 32nd minute to make it a 2-1 game at halftime.
Ethan Lacher’s unassisted goal in the 53rd minute knotted the score and set the stage for overtime.
“We made it to overtime and the boys knew that the next goal would decide the game and that lit a fire under them and gave them a much needed energy boost,” Moyer said. “Tonight, I tried to rotate a lot of players in various spots because we have three games in a four-day span this week, so we thought rotation was important to try and keep everyone fresh through the demanding week ahead of us.
“I’m a bit disappointed with the overall performance. We all know the performance wasn’t good enough to meet our expectations, but at the end of the day, I’m super proud of this group and the fact that they didn’t give up, even on a day where we weren’t at our best.”
Moyer credited the effort of goalie Griffen Blokker.
“Griffen Blokker made a huge penalty kick save to keep us in it in the second half,” Moyer said. “He was our man of the match. He made huge saves all night to keep us in it.”
Central Bucks West (3-3-1, 3-2-1 SOL) will travel to Council Rock North for a crossover game Wednesday, and Souderton (1-5) will be on the road at Bensalem Wednesday.

The Golden Hawks picked up a third straight win on Tuesday but only after solving a show-stopping performance by Tigers goalkeeper Carmela St. Hilaire.
“We had her at 23 saves for the game, so hats off to her for woman of the match performance,” CR South coach Nick Heim said.
Due to St. Hilaire’s masterful performance in goal, the teams went to the break tied 0-0.
The senior keeper is often asked to come up with a timely stop for her team and has earned plenty of plaudits from opposing teams for her play.
“Carmela provides a calming presence. She makes every save she is supposed to and will keep us in every match, she’s never afraid to challenge a goal-scorer,” Truman coach Mike McHugh said. “Today was another example of how valuable a goalie like Carmela is. She makes us a better team every time she plays.”
Cam Blatz was able to figure out a way to put a ball past St. Hilaire in the second half, then did it two more times on her way to a hat trick for the Golden Hawks.
Alayna Gutherman scored her first of the season for Truman, with the junior putting a late scare into CR South making it a 2-1 game with about four minutes left.
Blatz calmed any nerves on the Hawks sideline by capping her hat trick in the waning moments to wrap up the first half of division play.
“Pleased with the effort from a lot of girls today but we need to fine-tune some things as we head into crossover play,” Heim said.
Truman (0-5 SOL) heads to Pennridge for a 3:30 pm start on Wednesday. CR South (4-1-1, 4-1-0 SOL) visits Central Bucks East at 6 pm on Wednesday.

Paybacks are never fun.
The visiting Indians found that out firsthand on Tuesday when the Bucks – who had not forgotten their 1-0 loss to Souderton on Sept 2 in a game they dominated – erupted for five second-half goals to earn the no-doubt-about-it win.
“It was a combination of frustration from the first game because you can’t outplay as bad as we did – we had to try and miss some of the goals in the first game,” West coach Mike Moyer said. “We started out the same way that we started in the last game against Souderton, and finally, after hitting numerous posts and breakaways and corner kicks and you name it, we got our first goal 28 minutes in.”
Rian Detweiler found the net for a goal that turned out to be the game-winner, using a Mackenzie Gausch assist.
“Mackenzie played a great ball back to Rian Detweiler, and Rian hit a rocket from 22 yards out to give us a 1-0 lead, and that’s how the half ended.” Moyer said. “Needless to say, I wanted to challenge them at halftime. The challenge was to get two goals in the first seven minutes.”
The Bucks – or more specifically Eva Wierzbowski – accepted Moyer’s challenge. The sophomore midfielder went on a remarkable individual tear, scoring three goals in an eight-minute span to open the second half.
“I told her at halftime she needed to get involved more in the offense,” Moyer said. “She came out and scored our next three goals. She had a natural hat trick.”
Wierzbowski’s first goal – two minutes into the second half – was assisted by Ashley Lott. Her next goal came three minutes later, this one with a Rian Detweiler assist. Wierzbowski’s third goal came eight minutes into the second half, this one with a Kate Weyer assist.
“She has just been getting better and better every game,” Moyer said of Wierzbowski. “She played her best game in the West uniform today.”
The Bucks weren’t finished yet.
“Mackenzie Gausch scored our fifth goal on a great individual run down the left side, and she put it by the goalie to make it 5-0,” Moyer said. “Then Kate Weyer beat a couple of girls in the midfield and put one away from 15 yards out to give us a 6-0 lead, and then I finally got to rest some of my players.”
Moyer credited the strong play of his back line – Courtney Moylan, Ava Longo, Sam Kubala and Ava Brunner – in the shutout win.
“I don’t think Souderton really had a shot in the run of play,” Moyer said. “They’re doing really well right now.
“And AC Castro just continues to give us great minutes in the midfield.
Central Bucks West (4-2 SOL) will host Council Rock North on Wednesday, and Souderton (2-6, 1-5) will host Bensalem on Thursday.
