CB East defeated CR South in Friday’s District One 3A fifth place game.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1
In a spirited game for fifth place in district play featuring a pair of SOL conference champions, it was the Patriots – sparked by a pair of Riley Donnelly goals – defeating the visiting Golden Hawks.
For the Patriots, the win avenged a 4-3 overtime loss to the Hawks in the season opener for both squads.
“(We) are starting to work well together on both offense and defense,” East coach Michelle Finegan said. “It was a tremendous passing game on offense and some terrific teamwork on defense.”
Donnelly turned a Mackenzie Boyle pass into a goal with 17:50 remaining in the first half. Caroline McGovern scored the equalizer with a Tori Wright assist with 4:23 in the half to send the two teams into the intermission deadlocked 1-1.
Donnelly scored 11 seconds into the second half, giving the Patriots a lead they would not lose. Lindsey Adriaansen added an insurance goal with 17:56 remaining in regulation.
The Patriots held an advantage in shots (12-5) and corners (9-6).
Central Bucks East (16-5-1, 11-1 SOL) will face District 11 champion Emmaus in Tuesday’s opener while Council Rock South will take on the District 3 champion – the winner of Saturday’s Penn Manor/Palmyra contest.
Council Rock South 1-0 1
