Wissahickon and Springfield Township were winners in District One Tournament action Tuesday.

It took the Trojans just over a minute to score a pair of goals midway through the first half. That turned out to be enough as they held on for the win in a first round game played in less than ideal conditions.
“It was an ugly game,” coach Lucy Gil said. “In the rain, I don’t know if the girls weren’t gripping their sticks hard enough. There were so many balls just bouncing off, which they don’t usually do. It was a tough game, but we came through.”
Lauren Donofrio turned a Grace Ball pass into a goal with 14:37 remaining in the first half. Sixty-six seconds later, Ball found Ella Hummel for a goal.
“Grace Ball played really well, and she managed to get shot after shot off,” Gil said. “Hannah Havrilla always plays well. She controls the middle of the field.
“We were just having trouble on either end – the middle was fine.”
The visiting Rams scored their only goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
“We just kept peppering them, but we couldn’t get another one in,” Gil said. “It was one of those fluke things where they cross the 50, and they just came down and scored.
“I think we were trying really hard, but they just weren’t producing with the amount of shots they had. They weren’t putting them in. Nothing against them, they were right there at the mouth of the goal. They just weren’t finishing. It’s something we can work on tomorrow.”
Meghan Reilly (one save) and Alli Wood (five saves) split time in goal for the Trojans.
Wissahickon (14-4-1, 12-2 SOL) will travel to third-seeded Upper Perkiomen on Thursday.
“It’s going to be a really tough one – everyone is going to have to play their best game,” Gil said. “We can’t have any holes.”

The Spartans raced out of the gate to an 8-0 halftime lead on their way to an opening round rout of the visiting Warriors.
Brigid Roy turned a Charlotte Henry pass into an early goal that turned out to be the game-winner. Henry set up the game’s first three goals, following with assists to Maddie Yoder and Ella Marino. Kate Wojeck set up a goal by Anya Kochanowicz, and then it was Wojeck finding the back of the net with a Roy assist. Yoder’s second goal of the half came with an assist from Kochanowicz. Roy (Yoder assist) and Yoder (Wojeck assist) each added a goal to close out the scoring.
In the second half, Wojeck (Roy assist) and Molly McGoldrick (Yoder assist) both added single goals.
Lauren Corrado was credited with a pair of defensive saves for the Spartans.
Springfield Township (15-4, 10-4 SOL) will host third-seeded Lower Moreland in a second round game Thursday.
