BENSALEM 6, ARCHBISHOP RYAN 0
(Submitted by Bensalem FH)
The Bensalem Owls traveled to Archbishop Ryan today to compete in their last regular season away game. Although the Owls started off slow, they were able to beat Ryan 6-0. Playing four games in one week might do that to you.
After the two teams played a scoreless first quarter, Bensalem struck three times in the second. Kylie Blank got on the board first with an assist from sophomore Leah Vorgity. That goal put Blank into a tie for the goal scoring lead with Vorgity. Ava Grayo finished the next one off from Paige Dando with 2:18 left. Dando then got one of her own with a pass from Emma Welsford with just 21 seconds left in the first half. That was Dando’s sixth goal of the year and Welsford’s second assist.
Veronica Lennon moved up on a corner midway through the third and buried a rebound off of a Mollie Reilly shot. We were able to get some extra players in the game today, and freshman CeCe Barton did not disappoint. Bensalem found themselves with a corner but with no regular inserter. Barton stepped up to deliver a perfect insert to junior Kylie Blank, who absolutely crushed a drive into the Ryan goaltender’s leg pads. The rebound came right to Barton, who slammed it into the back of the cage. That was Barton’s first varsity goal. Senior Anjali Guda got her first goal of the year and the last of the day, with an assist from senior defender Lexi Hartman.“Bensalem was able to get freshman goaltender Gabby Thompson and junior Hailey Fricke into the game, and they both split the shutout but were not tested much today. Bensalem was able to get six different scorers and six different assisters for the six goals scored today. Everyone contributed today. The Owls won the corner battle 17-0. Shoutout to the Ryan goaltender who had at least 15-20 saves in the game.

PENNSBURY 5, HAVERFORD 3
(Submitted by Pennsbury FH)
Two years ago, in October 2024, the Pennsbury Falcons made it to the first round of playoffs for the first time since coach Traci Curtis took over in 2019. The team they faced in that playoff game was Haverford High School, who defeated the Falcons 3-0, ending the playoff experience very quickly.
Today the PHS players took that same one-hour trip out to Haverford to face them in a regular season game. Years had passed and time brings change, so this matchup was filled with many unknowns, but the orange and black arrived ready. Their only strategy was to move on from the past, play their game, and set the tone early.
And that is exactly what they did. The Falcons did not waste any time, working their magic connections all over the field. Four minutes after the starting whistle, Abby Iacona set up her teammate, Regan Rodriguez, for success. After some great off-ball movement, Rodriguez made her way into the circle and Iacona fed her a well-placed pass that Rodriguez one-timed right past the Haverford goalie. PHS went up 1-0, setting the tone with great teamwork and execution.
It was obvious what kind of game it was going to be when Haverford responded less than a minute later, catching a rare moment of a Pennsbury defensive letdown and tied the game 1-1. The rest of the quarter was a back-and-forth battle with no additional goals added to the books.
“The sun was hot and the air was thick, making the weather a factor in this mid-October matchup,” said coach Traci Curtis. “It was our third game of the week and fatigue was definitely setting in across the board.
“We knew Haverford was going to make it an intense fight, so we had to dig in and be very strategic about our lineup and how we would navigate our subbing.
“Abby Iacona, Ryan Burdette, Cailyn Reilly, and Joley Hohman were working overtime in the middle of the field where we were getting tripped up a bit, but we made adjustments and finetuned some things right away.”
Halfway through the second quarter, Iacona assisted her partner in crime, Burdette, who notched her first goal of the game, putting the Falcons up 2-1. Four minutes later, they repeated the attacking sequence with Iacona assisting Burdette once again to make it a 3-1 game, giving everyone a chance to take a breath during halftime.
“We continued to make necessary adjustments all over the field and focus in on the details that were going to keep us one step ahead,” said Curtis.
Haverford was not going to make it easy, that was for sure. They came out of halftime like a rocket and brought themselves within one, scoring at the 11-minute mark. The game was 3-2 and heating up with each goal scored. It was proving to be a true test of strength in more ways than one for the Falcons.
The rest of the quarter was scoreless – this game was going to be decided by who would be able to sustain momentum and have the physical and mental endurance from front to back to finish the job. Three minutes after the final quarter whistle sounded, Ryan Burdette sent a message that it would be the Falcons. She scored her hat trick goal and stretched the score to 4-2. But Haverford always seemed to find an answer and two minutes later brought themselves back within one. It was a 4-3 game with ten minutes left to play – an eternity.
“Those ten minutes seemed like forever,” Curtis said. “Our defense was really stepping up with strength and making a lot of great stops. Our goalie, Amelia Fernandes, made some nice saves as well and despite extreme fatigue, our attack and middies were getting the job done.
“We were moving players around to save legs and get breaks and everyone just cooperated and fell into step to support each other.”
Abby Iacona notched an insurance goal for the Falcons with five minutes left in the game to make it 5-3, and that was the final score as the Falcons walked away with the win – their fifth straight.
“It was not our strongest performance, but we were proud of the way our girls rose above some extreme unsportsmanlike conduct during the game, played with respect for the sport, and won with class,” Curtis said. “There were many valuable lessons learned tonight that we can take with us. We proved to ourselves who we are, what our mission is, and what we stand for.”
Pennsbury remains undefeated in the Patriot Division, clinching the title outright with their win over Bensalem earlier in the week and sits at #9 in the PIAA rankings.

Penny Longacre broke a scoreless tie late in the third quarter, scoring a goal with a Sunny Draper assist that turned out to be the game-winner.

Quakertown coach Peach Draper:
“What a beautiful night for field hockey. Upper Perk put up a tough fight, and their goalie, Ryan Sanfelice, was incredible. We had to shift our lineup to create more openings in the circle, but the hard work paid off. Penny Longacre broke through late in the third quarter off a pass from Sunny Draper, and Paige Longacre sealed it late in the game with a beautiful tip, also assisted by Sunny.
“This team continues to grow, learn, and put in the work every single day. After a long three-game road stretch, we can’t wait to be back on our home field next week. We truly have the best fans, and we’re so excited to celebrate our seniors!”
Up next: Quakertown will host Wissahickon for its Senior Night game Tuesday (7pm).

BENSALEM 2, CONWELL-EGAN 1
(Submitted by Bensalem FH)
Every time Bensalem plays at Egan, it’s a close game. Bensalem scampered out of Levittown with a 2-1 victory tonight under the lights.
Bensalem out-cornered Egan at least 6-1, but Egan never quit. Bensalem held most of the possession throughout the game, but Egan did not relent. In the first quarter, senior Tierney Sayers found herself at stroke and got a pass down to a waiting Mollie Reilly for her eighth goal of the year. It was Sayer’s fourth assist.
Late in the third, Kylie Blank was on the back end of a Paige Dando ball and directed it strongly into the back of the cage. That combination has provided 13 goals and 14 assists throughout the season. That combination has another full year together to blend even more.
Unfortunately, Egan was not done for the night and answered right back just a couple minutes later with 1:45 left in the third, to make the game 2-1.
Bensalem had to make some changes to the lineup in the fourth but were able to survive for a one-goal victory.

Conwell-Egan goal
Bensalem coach Gary Kubik:
“Our corners looked very good tonight, we were just unable to finish. We had the ball on the goal line on several occasions tonight, just inches from the goal but couldn’t put it over the line on a consistent basis.
“We moved the ball well all night, got some corners, and possessed the ball but were still not able to finish in the circle as much as we would have liked. We continue to get better every game, every season, but still have much to work on.”
