SOUDERTON 2, PENNRIDGE 1
The visiting Rams – facing a must-win situation if they hoped to earn a district berth – took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Indians rallied with a pair of second-half goals to defeat their visitors.
“We talked before the game about how Pennridge would be eager because they came in as number 24 (in the district power rankings),” Souderton coach Sue Casciato said. “We were definitely a little flat, and they were certainly more eager.”
While the loss cost the Rams a spot in the 24-team District 1 3A Tournament, the Indians – coming off an emotional 1-0 overtime win over Central Bucks West – remained at number 18.
“Based on the numbers, it would have been hard for us to move up and hard for us to fall much further,” Casciato said of the district rankings. “Obviously, after having a big win earlier in the week, we didn’t want to give up the momentum we’d built after that game.”
The win capped a remarkable regular season for the Indians, who opened the season 0-5-1 after six games and went 10-2 the rest of the way.
“It was a little bumpy at the beginning of the season, that’s for darn sure,” Casciato said. “I told whoever would listen even this summer – we could win five games, we could win 15 – I had no idea.”
Elsa Parsons gave the Rams a 1-0 lead with 8:43 remaining in the opening quarter when she connected on an unassisted goal.
That one-goal lead stood until three minutes into the third quarter when freshman Lexi Yanchunas scored the equalizer with an assist from junior Tatum Andrews.
With 8:40 remaining in the final quarter, speedy sophomore Hannah Fuente scored the game-winner with assists from sophomore Hannah Cornes and senior Ashley Paturzo.
“What we finally did the second half – we put a second person on the far post,” Casciato said.
Pennridge goalie Molly Bross was credited with nine saves, and she received an assist from defensive back Maura Kulp.
“Maura Kulp had at least three saves on the goal line on balls that were past the goalie,” Casciato said.
Souderton (10-7-1, 10-5-1 SOL) will travel to #15 Plymouth Whitemarsh for an opening round district game on Monday at 4 p.m. Pennridge closed out its season with a 6-12 record overall (5-11 SOL).

UPPER DUBLIN 4, UPPER MORELAND 0
The Flying Cardinals held their annual Corners for Cancer game, and they not only raised money for the cause, they also notched a shutout win.
Anna Cullen scored less than three minutes into the game with an assist from Tess Malizia, and it was a 2-0 game when Olivia Burdo added an unassisted goal later in the first quarter.
Olivia Vitella’s unassisted goal during corner play with 6:41 remaining in the second quarter sent the Cardinals into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Malizia and Cullen teamed up for the game’s final goal in the fourth quarter, and this time it was Cullen assisting on Malizia’s goal for the 4-0 final.
Upper Dublin (11-6-1, 10-5-1 SOL) is the eighth seed in the 16-team District 1 2A Tournament. The Flying Cardinals will host #9 Marple Newtown on Tuesday.

Knowing this could be the last game of the season, Upper Moreland gave it their all. These players have worked so hard all season at improving and changing the culture of Upper Moreland Field Hockey! Today’s score was disappointing, but that should not take away from the effort of every player on the field.
Upper Dublin scored quickly off a corner in the first quarter, but just as quickly, UM senior captain Cambrie Richmond gained control of the midfield, getting the ball up the field.
“Maggie Morrow played one of the best games of her senior season, along with seniors Ava Bailey and Olivia Meakim,” UM coach Pam Remmey said. “We tend to be a ‘breakaway team,’ getting the ball up to these players, and today, Bailey, Meakim and Morrow worked well together but just could not put it in the
goal. We will surely miss this forward trio next season.”
Then after another UD goal with five minutes left in the first quarter, UM was playing back on their heels, playing more defensively.
“Upper Dublin’s #19 (Mason Kullmann) was one of the fastest players we have seen all season and she tried to set up their scoring opportunities, but Eowyn Stainback did a great job containing her and stopping UD’s drives to goal,” Remmey said. “Izzy Duncan led the team in defensive tackles for the Bears. In the circle, Kelly Bates often got the ball out of the circle singlehandedly by dribbling along the endline and getting UD to foul or sending it up to the attack.
“Melissa Torpey was fearless and aggressive, challenging UD’s attackers. Ella Gould played well offensively and defensively all over the field.”
In goal under a lot of pressure, Ash Conrad had 11 saves, while Tierney Hogan made 8 saves.

The Colonials worked hard to adjust to their first grass game of the season.
PW took a lead it would not lose when Ella Catania scored with time winding down in the first quarter after tipping a shot from Maddie Carr over the goalkeeper.
Gracie Kerns scored on a redirected pass from Ella McCarthey in front of the cage, and with 27 seconds remaining in the game, Emily Dobrowolski received a pass from Bridget Fullerton across the top of the circle and scored on a hard shot from the top.
Claire Carrington earned the shutout win in goal.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (12-6, 12-4 SOL) – the 15th ranked team in the District 1 4A Tournament – will host #18 Souderton in Monday’s district opener.
