Non-league
NESHAMINY 3, ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 1
Senior Dylan Beegal scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead the visiting Redskins to the non-league win.
“Carroll was good,” coach Jamie Pinto said. “They had three or four girls that were really, really good.
“This was our first non-league game, and with playoffs coming up, I think it showed us what else is out there, and it was good for the girls.”
The Redskins got on the scoreboard two-and-a-half minutes into the contest when Ciara Lambon scored with a Dylan Beegal assist. Three minutes later Beegal converted a penalty stroke, and the visiting Redskins led 2-0.
“We came out really strong,” Pinto said. “We came out and we played hard. I think we set the tone in the first quarter, scoring in the first three minutes.
“The second goal was a stroke, but right before that we scored on a corner, and they gave us a stroke, so we had lots of pressure the first quarter.”
That 2-0 score stood until the fourth quarter when Carroll got on the scoreboard with 3:15 remaining in regulation. The Redskins answered less than a minute later when Beegal scored an unassisted goal during corner play for the 3-1 final.
“I was really happy about that,” Pinto said of her team’s late score. “The second and third quarter they kind of dominated. They stepped up. Our defense played great.”
In a game that saw Carroll take 14 shots and draw 16 corners, Riley Wert excelled in goal for the Redskins.
“Riley was a part of almost every corner – she played really well,” said Pinto, going on to praise her corner defense of Beegal, Avery McGinty, Madi Neiman and Olivia Roscoe. “They played really well. They were getting out fast, they were getting the ball out of the circle, and if got by them, Riley Wert was on it.
“In the middle part of the game, our defense really kept us in it. The fourth quarter we were back in it a little bit more. What I was proud of was once they scored with three minutes and 15 seconds left, they had a lot of corners at that time too. As soon as they scored, we came right back down and scored again. We haven’t really had that happen to us, so I hope that carries over and lights a spark in them that – ‘We can play, we can hang.’”
