SOL Patriot Division
PENNSBURY 9, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0
The sunset was beautiful on Falcon Field, creating the perfect backdrop and metaphor for the 11 seniors on the PHS field hockey team who would be playing at home in their final REGULAR season game of the 2026 season. There are so many “lasts” that weave their way through senior year, and this was one that hits especially hard. How was this the last time ever to play CR North, when just yesterday the seniors were young freshmen stepping into the rivalry game for the first time? The Falcons and the Indians have battled closely in the Patriot Division over the years, splitting wins, but this senior class worked hard to rewrite the script and has swept the Rock for the past two seasons. The shutout victory tied a neat bow around the SOL gift as the Falcons sit atop the Patriot Division as undefeated champions with a 10-0 record.
When the starting whistle blew, Pennsbury had a complete lineup of seniors – every position including the goalie was filled by a player who just crossed the field with their family to celebrate this “last” moment. With a small, streamlined roster full of seasoned returners, PHS has found much success and this game was their time to shine together.
Cailyn Reilly set the scoring into motion three minutes into the first quarter as she took a quick free hit opportunity, making her way into the circle and getting off a rocket shot from the top to put the Falcons up 1-0.
“Cailyn has such great IQ and really takes initiative to make great decisions,” said Pennsbury coach Traci Curtis. “This was an example of how her skill and knowledge come together to make things happen for us. She has continued to hone her skills and gain confidence throughout the season, preparing her for the next step playing for Babson in the fall.”
Abby Iacona scored her first of the game with three minutes left in the quarter when she collected the rebound off of a goalie save and hit the back of the cage with authority on the second chance opportunity.
“Ryan Burdette put a great shot on pads and Abby was there to pick it up,” said Curtis. “The North goalie was making great saves, so we were happy that we were covering the space we needed to in the circle and getting those second shots off.”
It was a 2-0 game going into the second quarter.
Ryan Burdette added her first goal two minutes into the second quarter with a quick one time shot off an Iacona baseline dump pass.
“You can never get tired of watching Iacona and Burdette work together on offense,” Curtis said. “They are so connected, it’s like a perfectly choreographed dance out there when they pass and move off ball.”
The Falcons went up 3-0 and that score held going into halftime with no more goals the rest of the quarter.
“North had some really strong defensive sticks, especially inside the circle. They were stopping a lot of our chances in addition to their goalie making incredible saves all over the place,” said Curtis. “It was a 3-0 game, but CRN can never be underestimated. They come back fighting and had a lot of strengths in different parts of the field. We were making attacking adjustments in the circle to navigate the strong sticks and get it around the goalie.”
The third quarter was all Falcons as they tallied four more in the scorebook, widening the gap to 7-0. Ryan Burdette scored her second of the game with an unassisted goal, beating a few defenders at top speed and catching the goalie off her mark.
Curtis said, “We were doing a really good job of keeping possession in the circle – players were protecting the outer edges to put the ball back inside in addition to moving the ball around to force the defense off balance and keeping the goalie on her toes.”
PHS went up 4-0 until Iacona struck again with a beautiful dodging sequence to make it 5-0.
“Iacona can receive the ball with a defender on her back and has a plan every time to get out of the fire. She moves with speed and skill that is really hard to stop,” Curtis said.
Proving the difficulty in stopping her, Iacona scored her hat trick goal with two minutes left in the third on a reverse stick shot that caught some air and got by the North goalie. The orange and black were up 6-0 and still had a lot of steam. Senior Mallory Harrison added one at the end of the third, getting a stick on a pass to the post putting PHS up 7-0 in front of a crowd that was growing more and more excited.
“Harrison worked her way back from an injury and did a great job filling in where we needed her when she returned.” said Curtis. “It was so great for her to be able to be out there with everyone to celebrate the night and contribute. Being injured during your senior season is a tough battle, but she handled it with grace and an awesome attitude/”
Senior Regan Rodriguez scored both of the fourth quarter goals off of assists by Burdette and Iacona, and the Falcons walked away with the 9-0 shutout win to close out their regular season with a record of 15-2. They dominated the Patriot division, going 10-0 and won the SOL outright for the first time since 2017. This will be the first Suburban One title for Coaches Traci Curtis and Lori Riley.
“It was nice to see five different players score and watch our seniors enjoy the night the way they did,” Curtis said. “To have 11 players be able to share in that core memory and fulfill a senior night dream together is really special. They played with such joy and freedom – that’s when you are truly at your best. We are so proud of them and can’t wait to take the next step with this energy and connection to guide us along. Tonight opened a door for us and removed another layer to reveal what we have inside.”
Shoutout to the CR North goalie who had 20 saves and played a lights out game – diving, jumping, moving, and saving a ton of shots!
Congratulations to Ryan Burdette, Amelia Fernandes, Mallory Harrison, Joley Hohman, Abby Iacona, Jamie Kolanko, Nandi Ntshalintshali, Ava Pinto, Cailyn Reilly, Regan Rodriguez, and Payton Worth on your senior night victory. We are so excited to continue to share this season with you. Thank you for all you bring and all you will leave behind.
Thank you also to Leila Curtis, Lily Fanini, Allie Fouss, and Lilly Alon for your unending contributions to this incredible team and family. It is amazing what fifteen people can accomplish when they operate as one RELENTLESS unit. We are never backing down!
Congratulations also to our JV team who finished out their season with a victory! YOU ARE THE FUTURE!
Pennsbury will wait to hear where they end up in the rankings and prepare for playoffs.
Congratulations to all of the teams out there on their 2026 seasons and best of luck to all of those who will move on to post season play.

BENSALEM 1, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 (OT)
(Submitted by Bensalem FH)
What happened was a very competitive game between two Patriot division teams. What happened was the Bensalem Owls played Council Rock South for 70 minutes of hockey today and we couldn’t decide a winner of the game. What happened was the best player on the field today scored to bring her team into a tie, with two more quarters to go and the playoffs looming in the future. Unfortunately, the tie probably hurt Bensalem’s chances to make the playoffs this
year, but the future is bright. Bensalem was looking at this game as a must-win to get into the playoffs and were cut short in a 1-1 tie.
Council Rock South started the scoring off early in the game when they scored just 3:09 into the first quarter. That lead lasted until 9:13 left in the second quarter when Veronica Lennon capped off her senior season with her fifth goal of the season with a pass off of Paige Dando on a corner. Veronica has been so good all year, and we finally got her up on corners in the last few games. She’s scored all five of her season’s goals in the last nine games. What happened is a dominant player dominated again today. She plays such great defense all year, and it’s a struggle to get her up in the play all the time, but we really started utilizing her more on corners in the past few games. And it’s paid off.
We weren’t able to capitalize on our corners today and that made the difference. The Bensalem Owls out-cornered CRS 19-2 in regulation and outshot them 16-4.
Up next: Bensalem was 26th in the latest District 1 3A power rankings and will await the final word after Thursday’s seeding meeting. Council Rock South – 23rd in the latest rankings.- will host Central Bucks South in a non-league SOL crossover game Wednesday.

“After losing to them earlier in the season in overtime, it was really satisfying to see our team come back and earn a convincing 3-1 victory. I was especially pleased with how well we played our style of hockey while maintaining our
composure and control throughout the game.”
–Props: “Our defense did an excellent job limiting their opportunities, allowing just one penalty corner and four shots on goal. In the midfield, Quinn Carroll, Lucy Smith, and Leah Cipollo did a great job moving the ball with speed and creating opportunities going forward. Our forwards were success in earning eight penalty corners, and we executed beautifully, converting three of them into goals. Zola Morelli had excellent speed on the inserts, while Lucy Smith and Claire Demmer did a great job reading the defense and making adjustments to finish on our corner opportunities.”
Central Bucks East coach Emma Rosenthal:
“I’m really proud of us tonight for playing until the bitter end. It was just an all-around really great game.”
–Props: “Jules Zipperlen, Sam Lafferty, and Kate McCauley had some great moments out of the back end. I feel great about the energy heading into playoffs.”

“Big props to a fast Pennridge team who were able to turn the ball quickly and catch us on our heels.
“Our third game in as many days to close the regular season out tomorrow we look forward to!”
–Props: “Ava Merschbach had a great game distributing the ball and hard entries to the circle.”
Note from the Pennridge coaches:
“We were so grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate our senior class after Friday’s game was canceled due to the weather. We are incredibly proud of and thankful for the Class of 2027 and the dedication, effort, and commitment they have given to this program over the past four years at Pennridge.
“While this season may not have unfolded exactly as we had hoped, this group never stopped showing up, working hard, and growing each day. The progress they made, both as players and as people, is something to be proud of. As we reflect on where we are today, we know that the younger versions of themselves who first picked up a stick would be amazed by how far they have come.
“Their leadership, resilience, and passion for the game have left a lasting impact on our program. We are thankful for the memories we have shared and for everything they have contributed to Pennridge Field Hockey. We cannot wait to see all that they accomplish in the future and know they will always have a place in our program family.”

The Bears played their hearts out tonight in their final regular-season game. After a slow start, Springfield controlled the first quarter and scored, but UM responded in the second quarter with more intensity and teamwork.
The Bears took control of play in the second quarter, keeping the pressure on and the ball in our offensive end. Kourtney Malone, who had one of her best games of the season, scored off a corner after a series of shots on goal. Kourtney also did an outstanding job marking one of Springfield’s top players, making a big impact on the field.
We continued to play well in the third quarter, with both teams seeing limited circle opportunities. We held Springfield without a shot on goal in both the second and third quarters. Bridget Hess was dominant at defensive midfield, making multiple stops, using her stickwork to make Springfield foul and making some key free hits.
Our defensive backs, Hannah Gardner, Charlotte Russo and Giana Morrison, were solid in the second and third quarters, keeping the Spartans out of the circle. Midfielders Taylor Pagano and Olivia Torres also had outstanding games, winning balls, pushing the play up the field and creating offensive opportunities. Our forwards, Gianna Jones, Soph Riehle and MJ Reilly, played well and created scoring opportunities but couldn’t quite connect. Goalie Izzy Fisher had 5 saves in the first quarter, but Springfield’s shots in the 4th quarter were tough to stop.
Now we wait to see how the other games play out and watch the rankings to see if we make the playoffs.
