SOL Patriot/Colonial crossover games
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2, NESHAMINY 1
In a crossover game pitting the Colonial and Patriot division leaders, it was the Bucks eking out the hard-earned win on their team’s Senior Night.
“Heading into our Senior Night match, we knew in advance that it would be a hard played battle for the full 60 minutes,” West coach David DeAngelis said. “We are proud
in the manner which each of our lines was able to step up and make plays throughout the match.
“There were many moments where we were skillful, making connections that had us in their half of the field. We relentlessly attacked and counterattacked throughout the match.”
With 5:31 remaining in the first quarter, Nina Mayro scored with an assist from Aida Ierubino. That 1-0 lead stood for all of 22 seconds before Mia Sermarini turned a Kasey Rieger pass into a goal that knotted the score.
Ierubino (Mimi Duffy assist) broke the 1-1 tie with a goal that turned out to be the game-winner with 5:24 remaining in the first half. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
“Tonight, our difference maker and impact student-athlete was our goalkeeper – Kendra Pitts,” DeAngelis said. “She has been a consistent force working with our defensive line, penalty corner unit – holding our back line. She made several key stops in the match, turning away multiple opportunities.”
The Bucks held an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners, but the Redskins had a 6-4 edge in shots.
“Tonight was a tough loss— we played hard,” Neshaminy coach Jamie Pinto said. “We worked hard
especially in the second half. We were able to make some adjustments the second half and generated offense, but we just ran out of time.
“Defensively, we played strong. Maddy Shtino and Morgan Shaltens led the defense— Maddy did a nice job of stepping up and Morgan was solid in the back. Alayna Roscoe and Cait Colyar also did a nice job tonight. Mia Sermarini worked hard cutting back to the ball and supporting the forwards. And Mia Brooks and Kasey Rieger moved well up top, getting good shots off in the fourth quarter. If we can continue to play like we did tonight, play hard, and play together as a team we’ll be able to finish our league games strong.”
Honored prior to Tuesday night’s game were seniors Kiersten Boos, Sienna Boos, Lily Cosner, Lucy Damsker, Ella Dougherty, Mimi Duffy, Nina Mayro, Alyssa Irwin and Lauren Quinn.
“Their value and contributions are so appreciated both on and off the pitch,” DeAngelis said. “It’s been my privilege watching their growth over the past four years.”
Central Bucks West (12-1, 10-1 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks East for an SOL Colonial showdown on Thursday at 7 p.m. Neshaminy (8-5, 7-4) will host Pennsbury on Thursday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 5, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
The Patriots upped their winning streak to seven games, opening up a 3-0 halftime lead and never looking back.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team for finding the back of the cage tonight in an incredibly balanced attack,” East coach Emma Rosenthal said. “We’re really coming into our own and finding more confidence in ourselves and each other.”
Paige Keller scored with a Riley Schmidt assist seven minutes into the game to spot the Patriots an early 1-0 lead.
A goal by Morgan Volans three minutes into the second quarter gave the Patriots a two-goal edge, and with 1:34 remaining in the half, Aly McIsaac scored with an assist from Sophia Gerken to send the Patriots into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.
Emma Weisel’s unassisted goal midway through the third quarter made it a 4-0 game after three quarters.
Rock North’s Maddy Mela broke up East’s shutout bid with a goal two minutes into the final quarter. With 5:21 remaining in regulation, Anna Daly (Sienna Valenti assist) found the cage for the 5-1 final.
“Avery McCann had an especially stellar game on the defensive end, coming up with some really great plays,” Rosenthal said. “Offensively, Riley Schmidt had some great breakaway moments and was just so feisty all over the field.”

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 5, PENNSBURY 0
The Titans celebrated their four seniors with a strong outing, opening up a 4-0 halftime lead over the visiting Falcons on their way to the decisive win.
“Our four seniors – Sam Thomas, Emma Kraft, Kate Porter and Peyton Ostroff – played great this evening,” South coach Kelli Chioffe said. “The whole team worked as a unit and was really able to finish in the offensive circle tonight.”
Erin Kelly scored a pair of goals in the first quarter, the first less than four minutes into the frame during a scramble in front of the goal cage with an Avery Tyler assist. Just over a minute later, Kelly was back at it again, this time scoring on a direct shot on a corner with an assist from Ella Haag.
With four minutes remaining in the second quarter, Tessa Walls scored on a direct shot during corner play, and then – with 40 seconds remaining in the quarter, Kaeli VanDerSluis scored on a drive to send the Titans into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Kelly completed her hat trick, once again using a Tyler assist.
Chioffe paid tribute to her four seniors.
“They have grown so much as a group and have really led our team throughout this season,” the Titans’ coach said. “They have also been willing to put in the hard work in and offseason to be successful. They were instrumental in getting the team lifting this past summer.”
The Titans held an advantage in shots (22-0) and penalty corners (18-0).
Central Bucks South (8-3, 8-3 SOL) will travel to Souderton on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. contest, and Pennsbury (3-9, 2-9) will be on the road at Neshaminy on Thursday (7 p.m.).

“Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fail.”
For the seventh game in a row, the Pennsbury Falcons have fallen short against their opponent and once again will pick themselves up, dust off the dirt, and try again.
The Central Bucks South Titans celebrated their seniors at tonight’s game and iced the cake with a 5-0 shutout against the visiting Falcons. South came out fueled by the exciting vibe and went up 2-0 in the first five minutes, pushing PHS on their heels and dominating from end to end.
“We were more ready than we showed tonight, said Pennsbury coach Traci Curtis. “Our girls are so much more capable – we just let CB South dictate the game, and we could not generate any offense or execute much with success.
“I think our group is in the midst of some mental mayhem that is causing us to have to work so much harder than necessary for even the small things on the field.”
After going down two so early, we swapped out goalies and shifted some players around. The Titans just kept coming at us with speed, strength, and skill and added two more goals before the half making it 4-0 before we could blink.
“Our sophomore goalie, Abby McCole, is brand new to the position, and she is doing a phenomenal job,” Curtis said. “She held her own in the cage against extremely talented players.”
McCole faced about 14 penalty corners and 18 shots on goal in the three quarters she played and only three got by her. Pennsbury held South scoreless in the third quarter, but Erin Kelly was able to connect one last time in the fourth, giving her a hat trick and making it a 5-0 game.
“Gabby Darling helped McCole defend the red zone with strength and confidence,” Curtis said. “Darling had a beautiful defensive save and led the backs with great effort. Other stand out performances came from Olivia Coen and Abby Iacona.
The Falcons will go back to the drawing board and prepare to face Neshaminy on Thursday for their second battle of the season.

PENNRIDGE 7, BENSALEM 0
Sophomore Sophia Cipressi had herself a night to remember, connecting for a hat trick to lead the Rams to the convincing crossover win.
“Lots of goal scorers today for us, but the big highlight was Soph’s first career goal, which quickly turn into her second and then third,” Pennridge coach Becky Spahr said. “I’m super proud of her and her ability to rebound and score for us today.”
Elsa Parsons put the Rams on the scoreboard in the first quarter, and Leah Verespy scored with a Keira Horensky assist to make it a 2-0 game after one quarter.
The second quarter belonged to Cipressi, who scored all three of her team’s goals. The first two were unassisted, and the third came with a Horensky assist and sent the Rams into halftime with a 5-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Parsons scored her second goal of the game, and then it was Alyssa Gobrecht connecting with an Audrey Frentzen assist to close out the scoring.
“Bensalem worked hard defensively, sending numbers to the ball,” Spahr said. “This disrupted our passing game, but we were able to capitalize on rebounds and tips.”
The Rams held an advantage in shots (25-0) and penalty corners (7-0).
Pennridge (6-6, 5-5 SOL) will host North Penn on Thursday at 7 p.m., and Bensalem (2-9, 1-9) will be on the road at Council Rock South on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The visiting Indians controlled play in Tuesday’s crossover game, opening up a 2-0 halftime lead on their way to a win that capped a trip through the Patriot Division without a loss.
“I played a lot of people today just because I couldn’t seem to find the right combination,” Souderton coach Sue Casciato said. “I feel like we’ve been playing pretty well recently, so this was a little disappointing now that we’re starting back with our division. It wasn’t a good stepping stone with starting that.”
Less than two minutes into the game, the Indians capitalized on a corner when Gianna Radcliffe scored with an assist from Julia Blair to put the Indians on top 1-0.
In the second quarter, Blair again provided the assist, this time finding Ashley Patruzo for a goal and a 2-0 lead with 13:25 remaining in the first half.
The Indians put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in the third quarter. Three minutes into the third quarter, Hannah Fuente scored with an assist from Paturzo, and then it was Charlotte McNeill closing out the scoring with 7:51 remaining in the third period.
Souderton (6-5-1, 6-3-1 SOL) will host Central Bucks South on Thursday, and Council Rock South (3-9, 3-8) will host Bensalem at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD TWP 2, WISSAHICKON 1
The Spartans celebrated their ‘Stick it to Cancer Pink Out Game’ by pulling off the stunner of the night when they handed the Trojans – the only undefeated team in league play entering the contest – their first loss in the SOL.
“This was our Pink Game organized by Kaity Walton,” Springfield Twp coach Anita Stum said. “This was inspired by a teammate who lost their mom to breast cancer in eighth grade.
“The team rose to the occasion, giving their absolute best effort.”
If the Spartans needed a confidence boost, they got it when Natalie Rittle scored on a breakaway, beating the goalie on a 1v1 with 1:10 remaining in the quarter.
“We picked off a pass, and then Natalie Rittler was away – eliminating defenders and then had the poise to dribble around the slide-tackling goalkeeper of Wissahickon,” Stum said.
In the second quarter, the Spartans capitalized on a corner with Gabi Maletta turning an Emma Yoder pass into a goal and a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Trojans made things real interesting when – with 11:25 remaining in the contest – Kayla Pak scored to make it a one-goal game. The Spartans’ defense held, and the big win was in the books.
“We had a strategic game plan to not chase the transfer ball and keep the play in front,” Stum said. “Our forwards tackled back, allowing our mids and backs to get in position.
“There were no fast breaks by Wissahickon, we played it perfectly. The mids and defense inside the 25-yard were spectacular. They played flawlessly. They were honestly a well-oiled machine today. The defensive corner unit was outstanding. They defended 20 penalty corners and turned them all away.”
Springfield Twp goalie Grace Bell was credited with eight saves in the win.
“Grace Bell had a game today,” Stum said, going on to credit the outstanding play of her defensive corner unit comprised of Emma Yoder, Gracie Buchholtz, Paige Pizzica, Charlotte Drapkin and Iona Stum.
As a result of the win and New Hope-Solebury’s loss to Quakertown, the Spartans moved into sole possession of first place. They lead the Lions by just one point heading into the second go-round in the division.
The Trojans held an advantage in shots (10-3) and penalty corners (20-3).
Springfield Twp (9-3-1, 7-3-1 SOL) will travel to William Tennent on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game, and Wissahickon (9-2-1, 9-1-1) will be on the road at Hatboro-Horsham on Thursday.

QUAKERTOWN 2, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 1
In a classic crossover contest, it was the visiting Panthers opening up a 2-0 lead and holding on for the hard-fought 2-1 win.
“This was a competitive game with both teams putting up a good fight,” Quakertown coach MacKenzie Moser said. “This contributed to most of the game play being
between the 25s.
“Overall, this game saw many touches on the ball from multiple players, both offensively and defensively, making for a great game of field hockey.”
Sunny Draper scored on a hard shot to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, and they took that one-goal advantage into halftime.
Freshman Cassidy Landis scored on a short flick in the third quarter before the Lions made things interesting with a goal by Ava Cozza late in the third quarter. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
Moser credited the efforts of several players in the important win.
“Leah Schwalm had some great crosses and a few great shots,” the Panthers’ coach said. “Katelyn Landis is a beast on that field, hustling all over to dribble and shoot on the cage
“Kaitlin Calvello did an excellent job hustling back and defending while also playing a great offensive game.”
With the win and Wissahickon’s loss to Springfield Twp, the Panthers take over sole possession of first place in the division standings.
Quakertown (11-1-1, 10-0-1 SOL) will host Upper Dublin on Thursday at 7 p.m., and New Hope-Solebury (8-4, 7-4) will host Upper Moreland on Thursday.

ABINGTON 6, WILLIAM TENNENT 1
Talk about an offensive explosion – this was it.
The Ghosts erupted for four goals in a five-minute span in the second quarter, blowing the game open, and it was the duo of senior froward Skylar Beal and sophomore forward Maeve Link that were the catalysts. Beal led the Ghosts with three goals and two assists.
“I’m really proud of how the girls played today,” Abington coach Janine Larr said. “It was hot, yet they hustled and played hard throughout the whole game on both the offensive and defensive ends. We subbed in a lot of players today, due to the heat, and everyone stepped up and did their part to help secure the win.
“William Tennent continued to play us hard throughout the game and connected on a beautiful corner in the fourth quarter. They made us work for every possession and shot throughout the game.”
Beal assisted on Link’s first goal at the 11:47 mark and then quickly secured one herself a minute later with a beautiful assist from sophomore forward Brooke Dougherty. Link followed with an unassisted goal, and Beal did the same, connecting on an unassisted goal at the 6:33 mark to put the Ghosts on top 4-0. Beal also assisted on a goal by senior forward Sharon Griffin to send the Ghosts into halftime with a 5-0 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Tennent got on the scoreboard, thanks to a well-executed corner. Beal scored one final goal to complete her hat trick, using another beautiful assist by Brooke Dougherty. Tennent scored its only goal during corner player.
“Skylar Beal really played a pivotal role in sparking the offense today for Abington,” Abington coach Janine Larr said. “She was constantly applying pressure in the circle on the goalie and connected on some beautiful shots on goal.
“Maeve Link also had a great game offensively. Her second goal was a beautiful lifted shot into the cage, which really set the tone for our team. Brooke Dougherty was key in getting the ball down the sideline for us today and providing great passes to help set up scoring opportunities.
“Senior mid-fielders Olivia Dougherty and Maura Calladonato both had strong games and really were instrumental in the win today. I feel that they were on every ball played between the 25-yard lines and really helped prevent offensive opportunities for William Tennent, while helping create scoring opportunities for us.
“Maggie Cardamone and Grace Upham also had strong defensive games for the Ghosts on the back line. Junior goalie Caitlin Murcar played well in goal and recorded three saves for the win.”
Abington (5-6, 4-5 SOL) will will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh on Thursday, and William Tennent (1-12, 1-10) will host Springfield Twp on Thursday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 5, UPPER MORELAND 0
The Colonials turned in another strong outing, opening up a 3-0 lead after one quarter on their way to the crossover win.
“We knew PW had hit their stride in the season by looking at their recent scores,” UM coach Pam Remmey said. “They had been scoring a lot of goals against their last few opponents. We wanted to limit their goal scoring by playing more defensively.
“We also worked on a defensive pressure system to try to slow them down, but with only one day of practice this week, it took a while to figure it out. Once we got it going, it worked well for the last three quarters, and we were able to limit them to two goals over three quarters.”
Two of PW’s first-quarter goals were on reverse lifts by Gracie Kerns and another by Emily Dobrowolski. PW took that 3-0 lead into halftime. Kerns scored her first goal with 8:33 remaining and added her second two minutes later.
Just over a minute into the third quarter, Maddie Carr added a goal off a strong lifted shot near the cage, and at the end of the fourth quarter, Tyler McClafferty scored, finishing during a scrum in front of the cage.
The Golden Bears were without their starting goalie in Tuesday’s contest.
“Our two backup goalies Ash Conrad and Tierney Hogan played with strength and confidence under a lot of pressure as they split time,” Remmey said. “The Colonials had 17 penalty corners and only scored off one. The ball was in our defensive circle a lot. Hogan ended with 13 saves and Conrad made 19 saves. I was proud of our two goalies being ready to come in and play that well without much varsity experience. This is also a testament to how accepting and inclusive our team is to everyone – no matter what grade or what skill level. All team members support each other in practice and games and our seniors lead the way with supporting and cheering on the underclassmen.
“Also playing well for the Bears was defensive standout Kelly Bates as she was able to make many tackles to get possession and progress the ball to the attack. Her free hits often sparked the attack.
Also leading the Bears on both attack and defensively were midfielders Cambrie Richmond, Melissa Torpey and Ella Gould.”

The visiting Cardinals scored three second-quarter goals to take control of their crossover game against the Lions.
With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, senior Aviva Kuznits turned a pass from sophomore Anna Cullen into a goal, giving the Cardinals a lead they would not lose.
Then came the big second quarter that began with junior Addison Michalek scoring an unassisted goal less than three minutes into the frame. Midway through the quarter, Michalek connected for her second goal – also unassisted, and a goal by Kuznits with less than a minute remaining with an assist from junior Olivia Burdo sent Upper Dublin into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
It was still a 4-0 game heading into the fourth quarter when Tess Malizia scored an unassisted goal in the opening minute. Olivia Vitella closed out the scoring three minutes later with a goal assisted by Michalek, whose two-goal, one-assist effort led a balanced UD attack..
