BENSALEM 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 2
The Owls staged a gutsy second half comeback to defeat their archrivals in Monday’s SOL battle, but things didn’t look promising when Kayla Boltersdorf scored early in the second half to put Truman on top 2-0.
“Truman pretty much dominated the entire first half,” coach Amanda Tu said. “They did well offensively, they were able to get through on defense and shoot on goal multiple times.
“During halftime, we just talked about it and said, ‘You’ve got to come out here and play the game the way you know how. We know your abilities, and you’ve got to put it out on the field.’”
The Owls responded. Autumn McBride (Madison Kubik assist) put the Owls on the board with 12:15 remaining.
“For the first five minutes of the second half, they still came out flat,” Tu said. “Truman ended up calling a timeout after we scored, and my girls were saying when they did tie it up, they didn’t want to go to overtime. I said, ‘Fine, you have to finish it.’”
The Owls did just that.
Kara Bachman turned a Kubik pass into the equalizer with 8:26 remaining, and with just 25 seconds left in regulation, the Bachman-Kubik duo teamed up again with Bachman connecting for the dramatic game winner, using Kubik’s third assist of the contest.
“Offensively, everything was coming together finally,” Tu said. “We called a timeout with nine seconds left because Truman had the ball, and the intensity on their side was increasing.
“It was our ball at their 25, and we were able to hit the ball up the field. It was pretty nerveracking, especially since both of us hadn’t won a game in league play yet.
“This was pretty crucial for both of us. Truman definitely came out with a little more intensity and also a little bit more heart.”
Tu admits she wasn’t sure the Tigers could pull off the comeback when they were down two goals with time winding down in the contest.
“They finally picked it up and became the team they’re supposed to be and scored three goals in the half, which we’ve been telling them could do for a long time,” the Owls’ coach said. “It’s been a long time since Bensalem pulled through when being (down)”
Tu lauded the performances of several players in the win.
“Madison (Kubik) played exceptionally well today,” the Owls’ coach said. “She was in the right spots, and every ball she hit into the circle was beautiful. She had beautiful crosses. It was just our girls not getting a stick on the ball to hit it in.
“Defensively, in the second half, Faith Dydak definitely stepped up and played well.”
Sophomore Katie Mulvey, who usually splits time in goal, played the entire game, picking up five saves in the win.
“At the crucial times, she was able to stop the ball, especially in the second half,” Tu said.
Mikaela Pacheo (Olivia Jenkins assist) connected for Truman’s first goal.
Truman held a 14-9 advantage in shots. Maria Dea had six saves for the Tigers.
Bensalem (3-6, 1-6 SOL) will travel to Council Rock South on Tuesday while Truman (0-11, 0-8) will be on the road at William Tennent.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 4, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0
The Bucks kept their perfect record intact with a shutout road win over the Golden Hawks. West, according to coach Courtney Lepping, capitalized on some free balls in the circle to take a 3-0 lead at the half.
Bryn Boylan, who had a pair of goals, scored back-to-back goals – the second with a Cadera Smith assist on a corner – to spot the Bucks a 2-0 lead. An unassisted goal by Smith sent the Bucks into halftime with a three-goal advantage.
“(Cadera) and (Bryn) scored their goals unassisted off great play in the circle when they each worked for individual space,” Lepping said.
A goal by Eva Altadonna after a scramble in front of the cage gave the Bucks their final margin of victory.
Courtney Westover earned the shutout in goal.
“She made some great saves in both halves to keep South off the board,” Lepping said, going on to acknowledge the strong play of Boylan and Emily Halderson. “They both (had) to work to shut down the league’s leading scorer in (Caroline) McGovern, working together to be very successful in doing so.
“The defense stepped up in a huge way and kept South at zero for the entire 60 minutes.”
Central Bucks West (9-0, 7-0 SOL) will travel to Pennridge for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday, and Rock South (8-4, 7-1) will host Bensalem.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
The visiting Panthers threw some defense at the Patriots in Monday’s non-league battle, keeping them off the scoreboard until just 8:46 remained in regulation. Cailey Lever scored the game winner, using an Abbey Butler assist.
“(We) had plenty of opportunities, but William Tennent was able to keep the ball out of the net with their aggressive fight,” East coach Michelle Finegan said. “Cailey Lever had a very pretty goal, which was able to hold the lead for us.”
East dominated playing, holding a decided advantage in shots (20-2) and corners (15-2). Only the 18-save effort of Tennent goalie Trisha McCoy kept the Panthers in it until the end.
Tennent coach Kaitlyn Rauchut credited her defense that was led by McCoy, Kalisi Taufalele, Mikayla Christian, Libby Betz, Regan Crognale and Jessie Betz.
"They contributed tremendously on the defensive end," Rauchut said. "Communication, effective marking and exemplary leadership helped the Lady Panthers' fabulous efforts."
