COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1, PENNSBURY 1 (OT)
An inspired Falcons’ squad – after a pre-game Senior Night celebration – opened up a 1-0 lead in the first quarter on a goal by Alaina Bird (Abby Iacona assist).
Pennsbury took that lead into the fourth quarter when the Indians rallied to knot the score on a goal by Taylor Dahms (Izzy Teitelan assist) with two minutes remaining in regulation.
Overtime could not determine a winner, and the two teams settled for their first tie of the season.
Scoring Summary
First quarter
Alaina Bird (P) from Abby Iacona
Second quarter – No score
Third quarter – No score
Fourth quarter
Taylor Dahms (CRN) from Izzy Teitelman
Council Rock North coach Jules Singer on the game: “Pennsbury is always great competition. Traci (Curtis) and her staff always have the team ready for the game with high energy and competitiveness. We knew that going into the game, and since it was their senior night, we expected them to come out with even more intensity. The first half of the game was dominated by Pennsbury’s attack.
“During the third quarter, we made some adjustments and came out with high energy, knowing it was anyone’s game. With two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Taylor Dahms scored a gritty goal in front of the cage after a scramble. After the end of regulation with the score tied, we went into overtime and finished with a 1-1 draw.”
–Props: “Our goalkeeper, Cara Moriarity, was absolutely lights-out in the cage, especially in OT—she stonewalled two breakaways in OT. I am proud of the girls for coming back after halftime on their toes and ready to play.”
Up next: Council Rock North (8-8-1, 6-2-1 SOL) will close out its regular season on Tuesday when the Indians will host Harry S Truman. Pennsbury (10-5-1, 4-4-1) will travel to Council Rock South Tuesday.

Electric. Falcon Field was on FIRE.
The spark was ignited as the JV team continued their undefeated season with an awesome 2-0 victory, and then Pennsbury’s 11 seniors were honored pre-game. Each senior walked out with their family in addition to a specially chosen IMPACT person who has had a strong, positive affect on their life. The JV victory and heartfelt, simple senior ceremony set the tone for the game and filled the Falcons with gratitude that opened the door to joyful playing.
Exactly one month earlier, Pennsbury fell flat on North’s turf with a less than stellar showing and was defeated 4-1. They vowed that this time it would be different. And different it was…except for the first goal – that was the same. Back on Sept. 9, Pennsbury scored first in the opening quarter, going up 1-0 and Abby Iacona had the assist.
Tonight, on Oct. 9, PHS scored first in the first quarter (with 5 minutes left) and Iacona set up the goal for her teammate, Alaina Bird, to go up 1-0. It felt eerily familiar, but the vibe was definitely different, which helped the rest of the game not repeat history. There was something in the air and the orange and black had put on a new game face.
“It is hard to explain the feeling, but it was something that you strive for all season,” said coach Traci Curtis. “The girls came out on fire and were having fun playing the sport they love. It’s that type of playing freely that we have talked about since August.”
The second and third quarters were scoreless, and the numbers on the scoreboard loomed over the field almost mocking both teams. It was a fierce battle on both sides of the ball. “North can never be counted out,” Curtis said. “I knew they just came off of a great OT win over South, and they were salivating at the chance to repeat that story.
“They are tough to the core and a great, united team.”
Pennsbury dominated much of the time with 21 shots on goal compared to North’s 10, proving the quality vs. quantity theory. Each team had six offensive penalty corners and a couple of defensive saves that kept them alive.
“Rock is exactly that in the circle – hard as a rock,” Curtis said. “They stopped so many opportunities with strong, poised defense and a great performance by their goalie.
“We were getting opportunities but had to do more to get around them in front of the cage. I will have to watch the film back to count how many times we had the ball right there in front of their goalie. The crowd was going wild.”
North showed their heart with two minutes left in regulation and earned a penalty corner. “Our goalie, Abby McCole, made two saves in a row against that corner play, but our defense did not clear with strength, so the ball stayed in the circle for too long,” Curtis said. Rock got a third chance, crossing the ball, and North’s player got a stick on it and finished to tie it up 1-1.
“Our defender was caught in bad position, got beat, and they took advantage of the moment,” Curtis said. “I was planning to call a timeout because I had saved mine but had to wait for possession. Unfortunately, that possession happened too late.
“So, I called it after they scored so we could reset, and all I could say was that it just got real interesting,” laughed Curtis.
With 2 minutes left, the Falcons tried to close out regulation but were not able to force the game into OT.
“Our players were exhausted and had left most of their heart on the field, but there was no time to worry about fatigue,” Curtis said. “We talk about suffering in practice to be ready for moments like this and they were ready.”
The Falcons played a very strong 10 minutes of OT with a couple of breakaways and 1-1 with the goalie, but it just didn’t happen for them. The game ended deadlocked at one, sending both teams away with completely empty tanks, but full hearts.
“Jules and I are cut from a similar mold and could not have been more mutually proud of our own girls and each other’s teams,” said Curtis. “Did we really want and need that win, yes, but if there was a second best ending, it was the tie. I have tons of respect for Jules and her program and love what she does for those girls.
“The night was great from start to finish with a shared feeling of unity, hard work, great hockey, awesome fans, and joy. Shoutout to our refs who were patient while we walked out our 11 seniors, started the game a little late, and then stayed pumped and locked in to call the game well in our overtime! They did a great job!”
Pennsbury will travel to “the other Council Rock” – CR South – on Tuesday night for their second meeting.

NESHAMINY 8, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
It’s official.
The Redskins secured sole possession of their seventh straight division title with Wednesday’s shutout win.
“This is a great group of girls that have worked hard throughout the year,” Neshaminy coach Jamie Pinto said. “We have had some ups and downs, but we were able to work hard and play together as a team to finish the season strong.
“The captains – Ava Arbakov, Kasey Rieger, Alayna Roscoe and Maddy Shtino – have been a part of the varsity program for four years and have stepped up this year as seniors and have set great examples of leadership and dedication.
“Winning the league is always a great accomplishment and a goal of ours— we’ve worked this season to achieve this goal and will continue to work hard for the rest of the regular season and into districts.”
Six different players scored goals for the ‘Skins. Kasey Rieger, who had a pair of goals, found the cage just over a minute into the game for an unassisted goal that stood as the game-winner. Norah Saloky scored her first of two goals to send the Redskins into the second quarter with a 2-0 lead.
The Redskins scored two goals in every quarter on their way to the win.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 4, BENSALEM 0
(Council Rock South info will be added when it’s received)
The visiting Golden Hawks notched a shutout win over the Owls.
Bensalem coach Gary Kubik on the game: “(We) lost to CRS today 4-0, but we feel that three of the four goals were just poor decisions that we made that directly resulted in the score. If we can correct those mistakes, we feel that we played a very accomplished team to a pretty good result. Unfortunately, we did make those mistakes and that’s why we took the loss. But we’re learning each game, and I feel that we had each other’s backs today. We’re just trying to get a little bit better every game, and I think we are. More to accomplish this year, more barriers to break, we still have a few games left to go.”
Up next: Council Rock South (7-6-3, 5-4-0 SOL) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh in a non-league game Thursday. Bensalem (5-10, 2-7) will travel to Conwell-Egan Thursday for a non-league game.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 4, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1
It was a night to celebrate Central Bucks South’s seniors, and although the Titans came up short, the game represented a marked improvement from the initial meeting between the two teams – an 8-0 West win.
For the Bucks, who notched their ninth division win without a loss, Aida Ierubino had a hand in three goals, scoring one and assisting on a pair. The University of Maryland bound junior broke a scoreless tie when she scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the second quarter. An unassisted goal by Lucy Smith sent the Bucks into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Grace McGrath used an Ierubino assist to give the Bucks a 3-0 lead, but Amy Hazell answered with a goal for the Titans, using a Tessa Walls assist.
Emily Taylor (Ierubino assist) scored a fourth-quarter goal for the 4-1 final.

Central Bucks West coach Lori Ierubino on the game: “South fans do a great job of making it a home field advantage for their South players. It was their senior night, so the atmosphere was super amped up. The South players always play with high intensity, hustle and aggression and tonight was no exception.
“Kudos to our West players for remaining poised after a scoreless first quarter with some missed opportunities. Our girls were resilient in their play and were able to capitalize on our speed to create scoring opportunities. Preparing for the postseason, I am excited to see other players getting goals and our passing game become more sophisticated.”
Central Bucks South coach Kelli Chioffe on the game: “We had great energy tonight as we celebrated our three seniors: Kaitlin Sullivan, captain Ella Haag, and captain Erin Kelly. These girls are a small but mighty senior class, and they led the entire team tonight with such class. Holding CB West from scoring in the first quarter really got our team energized. We earned a few penalty corners and generated some great offense.
“Even though West scored two goals in the second quarter, we didn’t give up. We continued to fight hard, trying not to let them spoil the night.”
–The second half: “In the third quarter, we got on the scoreboard when Tessa Walls fed the ball to Amy Hazell who got it past the West goalkeeper somehow.
“The score was 2-1 for a bit, and we actually started to get them flustered. Then, unfortunately, our center back, Sophia Kraft, collided with one of West’s players and got injured. She had to come out of the game, and we had to re-adjust our lineup. West ended up scoring again and we had difficulty scoring. We are so proud of our team for finishing strong and making it a Senior Night to remember.”
–Props: “I cannot list everyone on the team, but they all deserve a shoutout. It was a total team effort. The last time we played West, we lost 6 to 0, so we were thrilled to see how far we have come since the start of the season. Nora McQueen in the goal cage tonight stopped some rocket shots from West’s attackers. She saved 7 out of 11 shots on goal.
“It was great to have forward Amy Hazell back. She returned from being sidelined due to an ankle injury and used her speed to get down the field and in the circle tonight. Ella Haag, Ella Marchesi, and Avery Tyler did a great job at holding the middle of the field. Shoutout to forward Erin Kelly for receiving some great balls sent to her tonight and putting them in play for others on the team.”
–Credit to Bucks: “CB West is a highly skilled team. They move the ball very well. They have fast passes and quick restarts.”

Junior Paige Shearer scored a pair of goals to make sure it would be a Senior Night to remember for the team’s seven seniors.
It was Shearer turning a pass from Laura Albert into a goal four minutes into the game. That was all the Knights would need, but Ashleigh Barwis (Ericka Pickford assist) added a goal in the second quarter, and Shearer (Albert assist) closed out the scoring with a goal in the fourth quarter.
North Penn goalie Kiley Moister was forced to make just two saves in the shutout win.

WISSAHICKON 3, QUAKERTOWN 2
Talk about dramatic endings – this was it.
Cami Lutte – who scored two goals and assisted on the third – scored the game-winner with time expired, slamming home the rebound of a shot by teammate Noelle Koop. It came on the third corner with time expired.
“They called a corner in our favor with time elapsed,” Wissahickon coach Lee Ann Marchesi said. “On the third corner is when we finally scored. We had a direct shot, the ball came off the keeper. We had three girls step toward the second ball, and Cami just called it and very assertively lifted it into space where the keeper had just moved from.”
The two teams went into halftime deadlocked at one. Kayla Mullin (Lutte assist) scored a first-quarter goal, and the Panthers evened the scored on a goal by Cadence Jozefowski (Katelyn Landis assist).
The Panthers took a 2-1 lead four minutes into the second half on a goal by Paige Longacre, but three minutes later, Lutte scored an unassisted to knot the score. That 2-2 score stood until Lutte’s goal with time expired.
With the win, the Trojans made things very interesting in the SOL Liberty. The Panthers brought a one-game lead into Wednesday’s game, but as a result of Wissahickon’s win and with one game remamining, Quakertown, Wiss and Plymouth Whitemarsh have identical 7-2 records on division play.
Scoring Summary

Kayla Mullin (W) from Cami Lutte
Second quarter
Cadence Jozefowski (Q) from Katelyn Landis 10:14
Third quarter
Paige Longacre (Q) 11:15
Cami Lutte (W)

Wissahickon coach Lee Ann Marchesi on the win: “I don’t think a single one of my players had a bad game. Every single one of my players was on today.”
–Props: “It really started in the backfield with our keeper, Rae Stiteler, who was very vocal directing in the back, and that sparked our defense led by Audrey Walsh, Regan Szczepkowicz and Sam Farno. That whole defensive side of the ball – they were low, they were marking, they were communicating. If somebody took a risk, they could do so, knowing the other girls had their backs.
“In the midfield, it was really a team effort. We had some girls coming off the bench because a couple of our midfielders were not feeling very well today. With the assistance of the bench and the depth that we really have on the bench, we were able – with Lexi (Pak) and Ava Rocco – to keep the energy going. They were really picking up off each other’s wins, so if somebody had a beautiful pull, it gave energy to the whole team.
“The girls were switching. Kayla Mullen had really great energy, and it was nice to see Cami (Lutte) and Kayla connecting and Cami and Riley (Bell) connecting, so all of our attacking forwards were willing to play a little bit of midfield, depending on the need at the time. Everybody came back on defense, even our forwards, which really made the difference, because Sunny Draper is a very good player. They have some really dominant forces in the middle of the field, and they’re very well coached, so they did a lot of double teaming, especially with Cami, so for Cami to find ways to get open and to facilitate the passing and to really propel the ball through the midfield was nice to see, knowing she was going to have additional manpower on her.”
–Flowers for Panthers’ coach: “I have to give (coach MacKenzie Moser) credit. Year after year, she produces a team that comes with fire and energy the entire game. It’s something I really admire about her. I love her assertiveness, I love her command of the game, I love how she sees the field and is teaching her girls to play the game. I always look forward to playing against a good competitor.”
Quakertown coach MacKenzie Moser on the game: “Today was a solid game, one of those games where it’s neck-and-neck for the entire game, neither team letting up on the intensity at all. We came to battle, but the game didn’t end in our favor. We have nothing to hang our heads about as we continued to fight the whole game. Ball movement and connection was all there. We pressured the ball and capitalized when needed.”
Up next: Wissahickon (11-4-1, 7-2-0 SOL) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Tuesday (7 pm), and Quakertown (13-3, 7-2)) will travel to Palisades for a non-league game Saturday (11:45 am).

SPRINGFIELD TWP 3, UPPER MORELAND 0
The Spartans welcomed the return to the lineup of the team’s five seniors, and it was a pair of returning seniors accounting for all three of the team’s goals.
Natalie Rittler scored a pair – one in the first quarter and the second in the fourth – and Gabi Maletta had the Spartans’ second goal that put the Spartans on top 2-0 in the third quarter.
The Spartans – who had six penalty corners – held a 19-1 advantage in shots. Springfield goalie Grace Bell was credited with one save in the shutout win.
Scoring Summary

Natalie Rittler (S) from Bella Navo 12:18
Second quarter – No score
Third quarter
Gabi Maletta (S) from Ella McLaughlin 3:01
Fourth quarter
Natalie Rittler (S) 9:11
Springfield Twp coach Anita Stum on the game: “It was great to have Natalie Rittler and Gabi Maletta back from the injured list. The team finally had the five seniors – Gracie Buchholz, Bella Navo, Ella Seslow, Natalie Rittler and Gabi Miletta – back and healthy. They played a great game today.”
–Props: “Paige Pizzica and Ella McLaughlin showed up big today. Paige is the glue that holds the defense together. Upper Moreland had some chances with a few fast breaks, and our defense – with Paige leading the way – did an outstanding job breaking it up.”
Upper Moreland coach Pam Remmey on the game: “Springfield got a corner about two minutes into the game and their #6 (Natalie Rittler) made a terrific dodge, getting free for a shot to make it 1 – 0. We have a lot of confidence in our five backs on defensive corners. Early in the season, we got called for too many defensive corners, and the opposing teams scored on several of them, so this became a practice focal point. Over the next few weeks, the players worked hard to improve on defensive corners and also minimize those called against us.
“Our flyers on corners – either Melissa Torpey or Ella Gould are fearless sprinting out on the opposing team’s striker. We invested in ‘corner masks’ in the offseason to protect our four field players back in the circle with sometimes nine field players bearing down against them. Julia Gallen is our trail, and Izzy Duncan and Kelly Bates protect the back. We keep stats on the corners, and most corners, we get a defensive hit out as a result, so it was disappointing to the players that Springfield scored so early.
“But the team bounced back immediately for the rest of the half, playing more evenly and keeping Springfield away from the goal. Any shots Addi Hurley faced, she was solid, making eight more saves in the half.
“With the score only 1-0, the Bears started getting in their attacking circle and getting some shots. Soph Riehle and Kyleigh Convey combined for several shots to put pressure on Springfield.
“In the third quarter, the Spartans did get another goal, but Ash Conrad played awesome making nine saves.”
–Props: “Bridget Hess, Olivia Torres and Ella Gould played well at midfield getting the ball up to our forwards and getting back to play awesome defense against Springfield’s deceptive stickwork. Both Bear goalies, Addi Hurley and Ash Conrad, played very well totaling 10 saves each.”
Up next: Springfield Twp (7-7-2, 6-2-1 SOL) will travel to Ridley for a non-league game Monday (7 pm). Upper Moreland (6-10-1, 3-6-0) will travel to Lower Moreland Tuesday for its SOL finale (7 pm).

Ashley Avington had both a goal and assist in the second with Mady Rossiter adding the third goal on a corner after time expired in the quarter. Mia Rosala closed out the game with another goal in the fourth with Mollie Martin assisting.”
