Check out the recaps for SOL field hockey teams in action Friday.

Non-league
WISSAHICKON 2, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 (OT)
It’s becoming an annual ritual – the two SOL rivals battling each other in one-goal games.
Friday’s overtime win – which was won in dramatic fashion with 3:56 remaining in OT on Ella Hummel’s deflection into the cage – was the third straight one-goal win for the Trojans over the Golden Hawks. Last year’s contest also went into overtime.
“The girls were exhausted because it was 95 degrees outside, and they have a brand new turf, so it’s kind of slow,” Wissahickon coach Lucy Gil said. “It was like trudging along – they were wiped out, so when they hear overtime, they were like, ‘Oh, no.’”
The game-winner came on a well-executed corner.
“It came out to Caroline Kirkpatrick, she took a big shot, and Ella tipped it in,” Gil said.
Allowing the Trojans to escape with a win was an unlikely hero. Freshman goalie Ava Fell recorded 11 saves – all in the second half and overtime.
“I didn’t have any goalkeepers – I had three senior goalkeepers at the end of last year, and this year, I started the summer without any goalkeepers,” Gil said. “One of the girls got their friend, who’s a senior to come out for the team and just help us out in goal, and she did and she was great.
“Then along the way came a little freshman – she’s going to be a freshman starting next week, so both of my goalkeepers have had maybe a month of training and that’s about it. They did a stupendous job. I let them both play because they’re both super intense and super awesome. They’ve been a godsend. I’m really pleased.”
Senior Meredith Walsh recorded four saves in the first half, and then Fell – in a superb outing -closed out the game.
“She was our player of the game because that last quarter they peppered us and she kept everything out,” Gil said of Fell. “Because she had such a great fourth quarter, I left her in for overtime. She’s a great athlete – she’s a lacrosse goalie, so she knows angles, and she knows how to be a defender, but she’d never played field hockey before. It’s incredible.”
The Trojans needed a second-half goal to extend the game to OT. Rock South’s Kylee Hager put the Golden Hawks on the scoreboard with 9:30 remaining in the opening quarter. Caroline Martin had the assist.
That 1-0 lead held until early in the third quarter when Riley Ball scored with a Hummel assist, setting the stage for overtime.
“Ella had one goal and one assist, and she was just everywhere on the field,” Gil said of Hummel. “She’s supposed to be a forward, but she was defending, she was up, she was back, and she never stops. She’s like the Everyready Bunny.”
Friday’s game pitted a pair of SOL defending champions – Rock South was co-champion of the Patriot Division while the Trojans were the Liberty Division champions.
“I told the girls this would be a really great way to start the season and also because they’re not in our division, so it’s good when you can cross divisions and get a nice win like that,” Gil said. “I’m super happy.
“We had two really rough scrimmages, and I think we finally figured it out where everyone should go. We used the scrimmages really well to figure it out.”
Wissahickon (1-0) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham for Tuesday’s SOL opener while Council Rock South (0-1) opens its league season at home against Bensalem.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 10, ABINGTON 0
As season openers go, they don’t get much better than CB West’s non-league opener.
“It was a strong end-to-end showing from our student-athletes in our season home opener under the lights – Friday Night Lights – field hockey style,” West coach David DeAngelis said. “This evening, our team played field hockey at a high-level, demonstrating combination and crisp passing, good off-ball movement along with being well conditioned to support the attack moving upfield or to recover on the defensive end of the pitch.
“We have a strong and balanced attack this year will not need to rely on any one player for scoring.”
That fact was underscored in Friday’s win that saw Avery Anderson and Aida Ierubino each collect a hat trick to lead the way. Nina Mayro added a pair of goals while Lily Cosner and Kendall Siegel each had one goal.
“In addition to the goals this evening, the efforts to transition the ball from our defensive unit, through our midfielders and up to our forwards was very good,” DeAngelis said. “Beginning the season strong was one of several milestones that we look forward to completing this season. All around – it was a very good team effort.”
Central Bucks West (1-0) will travel to Central Bucks East for Tuesday’s SOL opener at 7 p.m. Abington (0-1) will be on the road at Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.
LOWER MORELAND 8, JENKINTOWN 0
The Lions used a team effort in their resounding win in Friday’s non-league opener, opening up a 1-0 lead after one quarter and extending that to 4-0 by halftime.
“The girls have been working hard for the past two weeks, and today that showed,” said LM coach Janet Lutter.
Jess Pachman led the Lady Lions with two goals and one assist. Adding one goal each were Bri Rocha, Mady Link, Liz Neeld, Jess Shein, Ashley Avington, and Skylar Lowry.
Neeld also had two assists while Haley Keller and Mia Karros both added an assist.
“This was an entire team effort, which will be key to our success this season,” Lutter said.

UPPER MORELAND 2, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
The Golden Bears held a decisive 12-1 advantage in corners, but that did not necessarily translate onto the scoreboard where they had just a 1-0 lead at halftime.
“Offensively, we struggled to capitalize on our opportunities,” UM coach Marissa Elizardo said. “Truman’s goalie had a great game.”
Zoe Longstreth turned a pass from Jenna Piantieri into a goal with time expired in the first quarter to give the Golden Bears a one-goal advantage. With 4:34 remaining in the third quarter, Claire Mahoney scored, also using a Piantieri assist.
Elizardo lauded the play of her defense.
“Cambrie Richmond, Haleigh Woodman, Kelly Bates and Izzy Duncan played well defensively,” the UM coach said.
Upper Moreland (1-0) will host neighboring Lower Moreland in Tuesday’s SOL opener, and Harry S Truman (0-1) will be on the road at Council Rock North on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 2, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 3
The Crusaders broke a 1-1 halftime tie with a pair of goals in the third quarter, and the visiting Panthers came close but never could erase that two-goal deficit.
A goal by Tennent junior Lindsay Jones knotted the score 1-1 in the second quarter after the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the first. Junior Hayley Hennigar scored a goal in the fourth quarter to pull the Panthers to within one.
William Tennent (0-1) will be on the road at Villa Joseph Marie for a non-league game on Monday.
