SOL Patriot Division
NESHAMINY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0
The Redskins have owned the SOL Patriot Division in recent years. Last year, Neshaminy finished four games ahead of second place Council Rock South, which just happened to be the Redskins’ opponent in Thursday’s SOL opener.
It’s early, but Neshaminy looks like the favorite to bring home another trophy. The Redskins controlled play in Thursday’s shutout of the Golden Hawks to win their third game of the week after a season-opening loss.
Mia Brooks (Kasey Rieger assist) scored the only goal the Redskins would need midway through the opening quarter. Mia Brooks added a goal in the second quarter, and Norah Saloky put the finishing touches on the win with a fourth-quarter goal.
Scoring Summary
First quarter:
Mia Brooks (N) from Kasey Rieger, 8:31 1-0
Second quarter
Mia Brooks (N) from Ava Arbakov, 1:26 2-0
Third quarter
No score
Fourth quarter
Norah Saloky (N) from Chloe Brison, 6:11 3-0
Coach Jamie Pinto “Today was a total team effort. We were ready to play today — we’ve learned from our mistakes from our earlier games and really stepped up today. We had good passing, pressure in the circle, and off ball movement.”
–Lesson learned after a season-opening loss: “We have to come out and play hard every game. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing. We played really well in preseason. When we lost to PW, we could probably come up with a thousand excuses for why we lost, but the bottom line is we really didn’t show up to play
that day, so I think we learned from that. We have to show up to play every day, no matter who we’re playing or what the weather’s like, whether we were in school or not. We just need to show up and play our game, which we did today, and it was nice to see.
“In our league, our girls do get pumped up. I told the girls that the energy they showed today – they were ready. I saw them in school in the gym, and they were ready to play. If we could bottle that energy up for every game, that would be great. After our loss to PW, they really buckled down and are ready to play every game. They know what they did wrong that day, and now we’re moving on, and I think we’ll be ready to play every game from now on.”
–Props: “Our senior captains set the tone today. Kasey Rieger led the offense, consistently bringing the ball down the field and into the circle using her speed. Ava Arbakov and Maddy Shtino controlled the center of the field working well together and distributing the ball, and Alayna Roscoe did a great job stepping up on defense. Claire Saloky played well at left mid and Mia Brooks did a nice job attacking and finishing.”
Next up: Neshaminy (3-1, 1-0 SOL) will be on the road at Council Rock North Tuesday, and Council Rock South (1-1, 0-1) will travel to Harry S Truman Tuesday.

The Indians’ offense was operating on all cylinders in Thursday’s SOL opener. Seven different players contributed to the scoring for the Indians, who took a 2-0 lead into halftime and then blew the game wide open with a five-goal third quarter.
Izzy Teitelman scored the game’s first goal with an assist from Brynn Bogle, and that goal turned out to be the game-winner. She also closed out the scoring with a fourth-quarter goal. In between, plenty of her teammates got a piece of the action.
Scoring Summary

Izzy Teitelman (CRN) from Brynn Bogle 8:06 1-0

Kailyn Smith (CRN) 9:01 2-0

Megan Reichenbach (CRN) from Brynn Bogle 1:57 7-0
Fourth quarter
Izzy Teitelman (CRN) 4:23
CR North coach Jules Singer: “Very good win from the girls today. Bensalem came out looking sharp in part from the coaching from Gary (Kubik).
“Special shoutout to Ashley Kim on her first goal, Sierra Kim for her two goals, Kailyn Smith with her two goals and an assist, Brynn Bogle with her two assists, Izzy Teitelman with her two goals, Julia Lyons with her assist and Megan Reichenbach with her goal. Kasey Papp has been stepping up in cage and had a pair of saves in her second varsity start.”
Bensalem coach Gary Kubik: “Council Rock dominated all facets of the game today. After playing them to a 0-0 tie in a play day only a week ago, our confidence dropped as the game lingered on. Bensalem did play hard throughout the game, but there is a lot of work to be done to be able to compete with the likes of CRN. We will lick our wounds, learn from this experience, and move on.”
Next up: Council Rock North (1-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Neshaminy Tuesday, and Bensalem (1-1, 0-1) will host Pennsbury on Tuesday.

PENNSBURY 8, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
(Article submitted by Pennsbury field hockey)
The Falcons traveled to Truman High School for a league match up, fresh off a scrimmage win against Montgomery High School in New Jersey. The preseason schedule included a game mixed in with an opportunity to scrimmage some different teams, so it was a welcome combination of contests to prepare PHS along the way.
“It was an almost full senior line up at the starting whistle as Pennsbury gave their seniors (minus two who were not available to play) the chance to be on the field together.
“It is a unique opportunity to get nine of our eleven seniors on the field at the same time, so we wanted to take advantage of the moment and give them that chance,” explained head coach, Traci Curtis. “It is a special season for them, so it was nice to see them out there competing as one.”
Senior Ella Bray connected three minutes into the game off a pass from fellow senior, Alaina Bird. to light up the scoreboard 1-0. Three minutes later, senior Oliva Coen fed a ball to senior Allison Goldfarb, who scored a goal making it a 2-0 game going into the second quarter. The next fifteen minutes were filled with an explosion of passing combinations, rebounds, and tips into goal. Sophomores Abby Iacona, Ryan Burdette, Regan Rodriguez, and Ava Pinto combined for four goals in the span of the quarter. Pinto scored two, Iacona assisted on two, Rodriguez scored two, and Burdette assisted one. The score was 6-0 going into the half.
Ella Bray added another to her tally at the end of the third quarter with a heads-up tip from a Riley Askey pass. Askey assisted one more in the fourth, helping Allison Goldfarb to score another goal bringing the final number to eight.
“Today we focused on possessing the ball and working the transfer to switch fields,” Curtis said. “We had a lot of good passing combinations and moved the ball well. It was a whole team victory and a chance to strengthen the depth of our team across the board. We are so proud of our senior class and all that they bring to the table. They really are a great reflection of our season theme – The Power of ONE.
“We have a high level of respect for the Truman field hockey team as they continue to dig deep, work hard, and never give up,” Curtis said. “Playing them is always a good time and helps us to learn the power of resilience and determination. The new coaches are doing an incredible job to teach, guide, and develop their players.”
Other standout performances were turned in by Payton Worth and Angelina Kenney on defense.
“Senior Kenney stepped to the ball so well today, cutting off many opportunities for the Tigers, and sophomore Payton Worth is a very patient, skilled player who distributes the ball beautifully to her teammates. Her IQ is getting better and better each day,” said Curtis. “Our focus is on taking one step at a time. We are climbing one rung of the ladder with each contest and are purposefully not looking too far ahead. Our next game is against Bensalem and that is what we will prepare for tomorrow and Monday. One step at a time and doing it together.”
Pennsbury (2-0, 1-0 SOL) will travel to Bensalem Tuesday, and Harry S Truman (0-3, 0-1) will host Council Rock South Tuesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
In a classic battle between the neighboring schools, Erin Kelly scored with an assist from Kaeli VanDerSluis late in the opening quarter. Kelly’s goal turned out to be the game-winner, but according to South coach Kelli Chioffe, the whole team deserved credit for this win.
South goalie Brianna Lucas turned away eight shots in the shutout win.
Scoring Summary
First quarter:
Erin Kelly (CBS) from Kaeli VanDerSluis 2:06 1-0
Second quarter: No score
Third quarter: No score
Fourth quarter: No score
Corners: CBS 6, CBE 4, Shots: CBS 10, CBE 8.
Coach Kelli Chioffe:
–The game: “East had a strong defensive presence in their circle. Their players kept denying us from getting the ball on the goal cage.
“Thankfully, we came out strong and were able to score with 2:06 mins left on the clock in the first quarter. Kaeli VanDerSluis, who often was double teamed, dribbled the ball into the circle and fed a pass in to Erin Kelly, who shot it past the goalie. We were dominating that first quarter but then East came alive for the rest of the game, denying our chances of scoring again. We battled back and forth, and a few cards were given in the last quarter.”
–Props: “Captain Ella Haag really played spectacular this evening. Her poise and control of the ball under pressure is amazing. Our other captain, Erin Kelly, had a great game on attack. Strong defensive play by Sophia Kraft. Avery Tyler and Carrie Williams really did a nice job of covering the middle of the field both defensively and offensively. The whole Titan Team gets credit for this win.”
Coach Emma Rosenthal: “It was an incredibly intense and a pretty statistically even game. Our defense stepped up big tonight, lighting an offensive spark and limiting the amount of South’s opportunities. We started off slowly and just picked up momentum a little late in the game. Katie Szczypiorski came up big with a defensive save in the second to keep us in it. We’ll learn from our loss and move forward.”
Up next: Central Bucks South (1-2, 1-0 SOL) will host North Penn on Tuesday (3:30 pm), and Central Bucks East (0-3, 0-1) will host Pennridge Tuesday (7 pm).
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2, NORTH PENN 1
What a difference a year makes.
Last year, it was a goal-fest when the Colonial Division rivals met, and in two games, they combined for 24 goals with West holding the edge in both games. Goals weren’t nearly as easy to come by in Thursday’s SOL opener.
North Penn’s Paige Shearer and CB West’s Claire Demmer exchanged goals in a span of just over a minute late in the opening quarter. Neither team scored again until Aida Ierubino turned a pass from Heidi Schoenleber – who assisted on both goals – into the game-winner a minute-and-a-half into the second half.
Scoring Summary

Coach Lori Ierubino: “We played two games in less than 24 hours against two very competitive teams in very hot conditions. I am very proud of how our team is improving together and supporting each other.”
–The game: “First goal: North Penn Paige Shearer tipped the ball in from Laura hit on a corner. CB West score one minute 23 seconds later when Claire Demmer lifted the ball in high after a scrum in front of the goal. The third goal, CBW’s Aida Ierubino scored on a drive with an assist by Heidi Schloenleber.”
–Props: “A huge shoutout to our goalie Kendra Pitts who played two unbelievable games.”

The Panthers broke a scoreless tie when Cassidy Landis slammed home a goal with 45 seconds remaining in the opening half. It turned out to be a game-changer as the Panthers added a pair in the second half to earn the shutout win in Thursday’s SOL opener.
Sunny Draper and Emma Stalletti each added a goal in the second half as the Panthers notched their third win in as many games.

Coach MacKenzie Moser: “This win was huge. We worked together as a unit. Going back to Pennridge, we started slower. Today, it was from the get-go. First quarter, we were tied 0-0, and it was a lot of back and forth, back and forth. We tweaked a few things after the first quarter, just keeping communication high. That’s my biggest thing this year, making sure the front line meshes with the midfield line, the midfield line meshes with the defensive line.
“PW always has very tight coverage. They hold triangles tight, so that was a big thing today, making sure we don’t have gaps between our lines. There shouldn’t be a huge gap between defense and midfield and the same thing with midfield and offense. Neither team backed down. We really kept the intensity.”
–The game: “The first goal – Cass (Cassidy Landis) just started us off. It was the most beautiful shot I’ve seen thus far. She ripped a reverse drive – it was so smooth, flat on the ground. It wasn’t a high swing. All our goals were unassisted. They were hard shots, pretty shots. Cass really got the energy flowing with a goal with 45 seconds left in the second quarter. We needed that first one. I always say – the first one sets the tone, and it just took off from there.
“Energy was flowing, they were communicating more, we had a lot of crosses in front of the cage. They weren’t frustrated, which was nice to see, but it was like – ‘All right, we need touches. Now, have to tap one in.’ Cass got the ball rolling. We started connecting. PW hung tough. It was one of those games – no one was backing down. Then Sunny Draper ripped a straight, beautiful shot right into the post. We’re seeing the cage, we’re seeing those corners. We’re looking up and seeing where we’re placing the ball, and our ball movement has come so far.”
–Props: “My defensive line – Ember Retter and Penny (Longacre) have come far. Penny is a freshman, and Ember is a senior. To see them connect – they smoothly move, clearing the ball out, communicating with each other. Ember really took Penny under her wing, and their connection is very solid. Sydney Torres and Blair Mora were in there as well. They were on the other side helping each other out. That’s what I stress to my defense, recovering for each other and having each other’s backs. That’s huge. The ball movement and the connections – it was all there. It wasn’t like we turned the competition in the third quarter. Today we kept it hot.
“We rotate two goalies – Darcy Baxter and Anna Haberle. They both have a lot of skill. Darcy had some great clears, and Anna –they had back-to-back corners, she slid out and got right back up. Active goalies are something you don’t always come by. Both goalies were impeccable job today.”
PW Coach Charise Halteman: “PW played a strong first half against Quakertown. With 45 seconds left in the second quarter, however, Quakertown sent a cross ball across the top of the circle, and Quakertown’s Cassidy Landis was able to catch the PW defense in a bad position and sent a strong reverse shot into the cage. Quakertown would add two more in the third quarter to take the 3-0 lead. PW put pressure on the Quakertown defense throughout the fourth quarter but could not find the back of the cage. It was a frustrating day offensively as our 16 shots and 14 corners could not be converted into goals.”

New Hope-Solebury coach Gwen Smith: “This (win) was huge. We started really, really slow, and they knew it, so I’m proud that even after they scored – it was like, ‘All right, we’ve got it. We’ve got to get our heads right.’ That (Springfield) goal was the wake-up goal, and I’m proud that they came back and answered.”
–Props: “Freshman Danielle Wilson – a defensive back – had a really good game defensively. She scored the game-winner and also had a big defensive save. In our midfield, Gaby Solis, Abby Varghese and Olivia Conte stood out today. While they led the charge, in the second half, we really started connecting passes as a team, and that was a huge difference from the first half.”

The Upper Moreland team wants to thank the many fans that came to support us including UM faculty, staff, students, youth field hockey players, family and friends. Everyone enjoyed a thrilling contest with a lot of exciting circle play.”
–The game: “In the first quarter, the Bears took many shots and forced several corners but were not able to score. Then six minutes into the second quarter, Soph Riehle got a pass from midfielder Ella Gould and swept a hard shot into the net for her first career varsity goal. But three minutes later, the Panthers got a corner and scored to tie it up.
“Quickly after halftime, freshman Olivia Torres got the ball in front of the keeper and spun around to put the ball past the defenders, putting the Bears back on top. The Bears continued to pressure William Tennent in the second half.
“Then in the fourth quarter, our ‘spark’ – Charleis Fayall – scored the insurance goal for her first career varsity goal with an assist from Ella Gould.”
–Props: “Ella Gould and Melissa Torpey were relentless with great passing, dodging and not letting the ball past the midfield. On the defensive end, Izzy Duncan played more aggressively stepping up to get the ball and moving up to the attack for scoring opportunities. D-backs Mackenzie Reilly and Kelly Bates were very effective to not let the Panthers get into our defensive circle. Freshman Bridget Hess, one of our hardest workers was steady behind Kyleigh Convey as they moved the ball well down the side of the field.”

The Lady Panthers avoided a shutout when Annabelle Gold scored in the fourth quarter.
Lower Moreland coach Janet Lutter: “We were able to move the ball a lot tonight and find those open spaces. All our defenders held the ball in the midfield and only allowed a few shots on goal. Alexis MacPhee and Anikka Swanson led the defense and were tough to get past. Cheltenham scored their lone goal in the last second of the game.”
