Check out the recaps for SOL field hockey teams in action Saturday.

NORTH PENN 5, DOWNINGTOWN EAST 1
The Knights jumped out to 2-0 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back on their way to the non-league win.

North Penn coach Shannnon McCracken: “The Knights had a great offensive day scoring five goals on 14 shots. Junior forwards Paige Shearer and Kylie Barwis were dynamic on the attack, using speed and a variety of shots to capitalize on the offensive opportunities. It was a team effort today as the Knights utilized many passing sequences to advance the ball on offense.”
Up next: North Penn (5-2, 3-2 SOL) will host Council Rock North in a non-league game Monday.
MANHEIM TOWNSHIP 5, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3
The Bucks capped a busy week with a road trip to take on defending District 3 champion and state runner-up Manheim Township. They went into halftime on the short end of a 3-0 score but rallied to make it a 3-2 game before falling.
Calista Boos put the Bucks on the board when she converted a penalty stroke in the opening minute of the second half, and the Bucks capitalized on a penalty corner later in the quarter with Heidi Schoenleber turning a pass from Aida Ierubino into a goal.
Manheim Twp answered with a pair of goals to open the fourth quarter, but the Bucks kept battling and Ierubino scored in the game’s closing seconds.
The Blue Streak held an advantage in shots (20-14) and corners (16-10), but the Bucks held their own. Brooke Weaver – a Penn State recruit – had a pair of goals for the Blue Streak.
Saturday’s contest was the Bucks fourth in six days against a Manheim Township squad that improved to 8-0.
Scoring Summary
1st quarter
Brooke Weaver (MT) from Julia Weaver 2:48 (1-0)

2nd quarter

Brooke Weaver (MT) from Rose Montgomery 6:29 (5-2)
Aida Ierubino (CBW) 0:02 (5-3)
CB West coach Lori Ierubino: “Today was a great testament to the fighting spirit of our team. We were sloppy today, and it was not our best showing – but not from a lack of effort. We were down 3-0 at half and came back to make it 3-2 at the end of the third quarter.
“We need to do a better job setting our kids up for success – 4 games in 6 days (the last 2 less than 24 hours apart) in this heat was too much to beat a talented, well coached Manheim team. There is a lot to learn from this game and I have no doubt we will come out of it a better team – maybe something more valuable than a win at this stage in the season.”
Up next: Central Bucks West (6-2, 5-0 SOL) will host Neshaminy on Monday (7 pm) in a non-league contest.
Central Bucks West 0-0-2-1 3
Manheim Twp 2-1-0-2 5
PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2, PENNRIDGE 1 (OT)
The Rams gave the Vikings all they could hand before falling in the final minute of overtime.
Perk Valley took an early 1-0 lead, but the Rams came back to knot the score when Audrey Frentzen scored with an assist from Alex Jensen.
Saturday’s game was the Rams’ fifth road game in their last six contests.
Pennridge coach Elena Romesburg: “It was a very competitive game, and we had a lot of opportunities to score on fast breaks and corners, but we struggled to finish in the circle. However, Audrey Frentzen was able to convert a pass from Alex Jensen in the second half to tie it up after PV scored in the first quarter.
“Going into OT, we did a great job holding them defensively and getting offensive looks until PV drew a last-minute corner and were able to score off a rebound. It’s always tough to lose in OT, but I’m proud of how well we fought back after a slow start.”
–Props: “I think our pair of freshmen, Alex Jensen and Deegan Smith, along with senior Audrey Frentzen really connected on the offensive front drawing corners and putting pressure on PVs backs. Leah Verespy, Suzan Eraydin, and Lexi Capo also hustled in the midfield to create opportunities. We are looking to rebound on Monday against Truman at home after a ton of away games.”
Up next: Pennridge (1-6, 1-4 SOL) will host Harry S Truman in a non-league game Monday.
AVON GROVE 4, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 0
Avon Grove lived up to its billing as the second ranked team in the latest District 1 3A power rankings. The undefeated Red Devils have had shutouts in three of their last four games – including Saturday’s win over the Colonials, and they have not allowed more than one goal in any game so far this season.
On Saturday, the Colonials were their latest victims
“Despite some great individual plays at times, we struggled to connect offensively, and mistakes did not allow us to maintain possession,” PW coach Charise Halteman said. “Avon Grove had strong transition plays and made the most of their time in the circle.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh (5-3, 4-1 SOL) will travel to Lower Moreland for a non-league game Monday.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2, GWYNEDD MERCY 1
Sparked by a pair of goals from Aida Ierubino, the visiting Bucks jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Monarchs trimmed that advantage in half midway through the fourth quarter.
Ierubino turned a pass from Eve Damsker into the game’s first goal, and it was a strong individual effort that resulted in her second goal in the second quarter.
Scoring Summary
1st quarter
Aida Ierubino (CBW) from Eve Damsker 9:15 1-0
2nd quarter
Aida Ierubino (CBW) 10:45 (2-0)
3rd quarter – No score
4th quarter
Carsey Kelly (GMA) from Rory Saxon 7:56 (2-1)
CB West coach Lori Ierubino: “TGIF! It was a sloppy game with moments of good hockey, and we were able to capitalize when we needed to. I am proud of the grit our girls showed to stave off the never-give-up spirit of Gwynedd whose team grew stronger and more threatening as the game wore on.
–Props: “Our defensive team including Kendra Pitts, Laney Hall, Heidi Schoenleber, and Eve Damsker saved us on many efforts from Gwynedd.”
