HARRY S TRUMAN 4, BENSALEM 0
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead into halftime but might not have been feeling all that comfortable.
Coach Kayla Kowalick and her veteran squad hadn’t forgotten last year’s second meeting between the two schools that saw the Owls score three unanswered goals in the final 12:15 to erase a 2-0 deficit, connecting for the game winner with 25 seconds remaining in regulation.
“That’s what a lot of the girls talked about yesterday,” coach Kayla Kowalick said. “It was a heartbreaking loss. I have 11 seniors and most of them were on varsity last year, so they just took that and went with it.”
This time around, the Tigers made sure there were no reruns, opening up a 2-0 halftime lead and adding to that in the second half.
“I was pleased with the way they moved the ball up the field,” Kowalick said. “Going into this game, we played Villa (Josephy Marie) and both Council Rocks, so defense was all we worked on. Yesterday was just about scoring. We did so many scoring drills.”
Sophomore Olivia Kerns reaped the benefits, connecting for the hat trick to lead the way. She put the Tigers on the board with eight minutes remaining in the first half, turning an assist from Kayla Boldersdorf into a goal. Sophomore Grace Pool – the team’s center back – connected on a shot during corner play with time expired in the half to put the Tigers on top 2-0.
Kerns scored an unassisted goal at the 18:54 mark of the second half and nine minutes later completed her hat trick, this time using an assist from Pool.
Kowalick credited the efforts of several players.
“My two other girls up top – Olivia Jenkins and Jayda Campbell – just kept feeding the ball, crossing it and getting shots,” Kowalick said. “Other than that, we all played together.”
The win was the first in four games for the Tigers.
“This was so important, especially going into our Abington game on Monday,” Kowalick said. “The girls were pumped.
“There’s definitely improvement. We just have to keep working.”
The Tigers held a 20-4 advantage in shots. Bensalem goalie Selena Lee was credited with 12 saves while Truman’s Rebecca Laranko was forced to make just two in the shutout win.
Harry S Truman (1-3, 1-2 SOL) will be on the road at Abington on Monday, and Bensalem (0-5, 0-4) will travel to Norristown for a non-league game Tuesday.

NORTH PENN 6, UPPER DUBLIN 1
Emily Crawford scored an unassisted goal 37 seconds into Friday’s non-league contest, and the Knights were off and running. Mikayla Barrow (Crawford assist) scored to put the visitors on top 2-0 four minutes into the contest, and that score stood until Amber Blackshear’s unassisted goal at the 7:43 mark. Bri O’Donnell (Kristin Varilla assist) and O’Donnell (Barrow assist) each added single goals in the final four minutes to send the Knights into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
Maddie Templeton’s goal at the 26:39 mark of the second half broke up the Knights’ shutout bid, but Barrow got that back with her second goal of the game, this one with a Blackshear assist.
The Knights held an advantage in shots (25-6) and penalty corners (10-3). Brynne Schoppe was credited with four saves in the shutout. Sarah Herchenroder (11 saves) and Meghan Muth (eight saves) combined for 19 saves.

SOUDERTON 4, ABINGTON 0
Courtney Kenah scored a pair of goals, teammate Randi Hess added a goal and an assist, and Jess Gabriel had two assists in the Indians' non-league win.
The Ghosts battled the Indians to a scoreless halftime tie, but a goal by Courtney Kenah with a Gabriel assist put the Indians on the board and opened the floodgates. Hess scored an unassisted goal, and then it was Ashlyn Cato turning a Hess pass into a goal for a 3-0 Souderton lead. Kenah closed out the scoring, again using a Gabriel assist.
Souderton (4-2, 2-1 SOL) will be on the road at North Penn on Monday, and Abington (1-4, 0-4) will host Harry S Truman Monday.

EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 6, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2
CB West took intentional steps to toughen up its schedule. On Friday, the Bucks took on an EA squad that has been a perennial power. Before the Bucks knew what happened, they were staring at a 4-0 deficit less than 15 minutes into the game.
“EA started the game off quickly with a score and kept the pressure on throughout,” coach Courtney Lepping said.
Cadera Smith’s goal on an individual effort made it a 4-1 game at halftime. EA scored within the first minute of the second half to go on top 5-1.
“The effort from West was much improved this half as (we) were able to put continuous pressure on EA,” Lepping said.
Bryn Boylan’s goal on a penalty corner with a Ryan Murray assist made it 5-2, but that’s as close as the Bucks would get.
“While the outcome was not what (we) wanted, the improved effort the second half was gutsy,” Lepping said. “Casey Reichwein and Kacie Murry played an incredible second half for West.
“Reichwein was stepping up to the ball and sending great passes through the midfield. Murray played an incredibly strong right mid, working to slow down the EA offense and helping to control play in the midfield.”
Central Bucks West (4-2, 3-1) will host Pennridge on Monday at 7 p.m.

Coach Linda Nixon knew her defense would get a workout in Friday’s non-league game at GA. The veteran coach was right. The Patriots took 23 shots to just one for the Spartans and opened up a 6-0 halftime lead on their way to the shutout win.
Spartan goalie Izzy Boles was credited with 14 saves.
Springfield (1-3, 1-2 SOL) will travel to Upper Dublin on Monday.
