COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 6, PENNSBURY 2
Katelyn Cocco connected on a hat trick, but six players contributed to the scoring for the Golden Hawks, who opened up a 5-0 lead before the Falcons got on the board.
“We came out strong,” South coach Lisa Belz said. “We had a lot of different people scoring. Cocco had three goals, but she generated a lot and was passing to other players. I think we’re finally starting to come together as a team.
“Overall, I’m happy with my team. I’m happy with the leadership, and I’m happy with the way everyone is settling into their positions. We’re looking forward to seeing how we do this week. We have two more league games.”
Kerry Kaufman turned a Rachael Rolle pass into a goal eight-and-a-half minutes into the game. Midway through the first half, Cocco connected with an assist from Cailey Hiscox, and a goal by Rolle during corner play in the final minute of the half sent the Golden Hawks into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Cocco wasted little time before getting on the scoreboard after the intermission, finding the cage 15 seconds into the half with an assist from Brigid Morgan. Three minutes later, Ava Haurin scored an unassisted goal to put the Golden Hawks on top 5-0. Midway through the half, Juliana Martin scored for the Falcons, and a goal by Maddy Spratt made it a 5-2 game.
“Julianna scored the Falcons’ first goal with a great shot from the outside,” Pennsbury coach Traci Curtis said. “Her determination and effort in keeping possession up the left side contributed to that finish.
“Maddy Spratt added another goal later in the half off of the combined contribution of Sophia Hitchingham and Kayli Williams. There are definitely small victories to take from within this loss and we are working hard to use those sparks to help us to move forward.”
Cocco completed her hat trick with a goal in the final minute.
Belz credited the play of several players.
“Kerry Kaufman is really stepping up,” Belz said of her sophomore midfielder. “Last year she played mostly forward, and this year she’s playing mid, so she’s really doing a nice job of controlling the midfield.
“Lauren Mitchell is a senior defensive back. She’s not a captain, but she’s leading the team really well and stepping up her play, stepping up to the ball well.”
Heading into Monday’s game, the Golden Hawks had dropped two of three games – both were non-league games to district powers Central Bucks East and Spring-Ford.
“We were definitely looking forward to getting into league play because we had some tough ones recently,” Belz said. “We learned a lot from the non-league games, so moving forward, we’re looking to be competitive in the league.
“Pennsbury is always a really good team. They have a new coach, and the kids seem to respond to her really well. They came back in the second half, and they generated some offense.”
Curtis acknowledged she had concerns about her team’s mindset.
“There are some things that just cannot be coached,” the Falcons’ first-year coach said. “Believing as individuals and as a team that you are capable, worthy, talented, and strong comes from within and on this particular Monday afternoon, Pennsbury struggled with that positive mindset.
“Those things can be modeled, discussed, and encouraged, but unless there is true belief that sinks in, it is difficult for a team to overcome any game, let alone a challenging one. Council Rock South came out ready to dominate and that is what they did.”
Curtis acknowledged that her squad had “a few moments of inspiration” in the second half but allowed South to control the game.
“The score reflected exactly that,” the Falcons’ coach said. “Keira Korzeb and Haley Derr fought hard in the goal for PHS, and Nicole Joniak and Hannah Aker played their typical consistent defense throughout the game. Sophia Hitchingham worked hard in the center to distribute, set up momentum, and provide offensive opportunities.
“The focus for the Falcons will be on working as a cohesive unit to improve their 1-6 record. That is something we are very proud of in our team – we do not look to one single player to fix it all or do all of the work – we rely on everyone contributing and taking responsibility for their role and carrying out that role to the best of their ability in any given moment.”
The Golden Hawks held a 15-7 advantage in shots. Rock South goalie Karlie McCloskey was credited with five saves while Pennsbury’s Kiera Korzeb (six saves) and Haley Derr combined for 10 stops.
Council Rock South (4-4, 3-1 SOL) will travel to William Tennent on Wednesday, and Pennsbury (1-6, 1-3) will be on the road at Harry S Truman.

NESHAMINY 6, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
The Redskins and Panthers entered Monday’s contest as the lone teams without a loss in conference play. The defending champion Redskins – sparked by three goals and an assist from Brooke Cordisco – proved they’re not about to give up the top spot in the standings, controlling play from wire to wire.
“Today we worked well as a team,” Neshaminy coach Jamie Pinto said. “We have a big week and some tough games coming up.
“We are going to take one game at a time and continue to work hard at practice and play together as a team.”
Peyton Ritchey turned a Cordisco pass into the game’s first goal seven minutes into the game. Four minutes later, Cordisco found the cage, using a Carena Barr assist. Cordisco closed out the first half scoring when she connected with four minutes remaining, turning a pass from Asia Barnard into a goal and a 3-0 lead.

Payton Muth – with an Abby Ludlow assist – scored to give the Rams a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into Monday night’s game between the neighboring rivals. The Indians had an answer.
Two minutes later, Courtney Kenah scored with an assist from Anna Gwiazdzinski, knotting the score. That tie lasted for all of 54 seconds when Courtney Kenah (Lauren Kenah assist) found the cage with a goal that gave the Indians a lead they would not lose. Autumn Hunter turned a pass from Courtney Kenah into a goal that put the Indians on top 3-1 with 7:47 remaining in the first half. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
The Indians held an advantage in shots (18-3) and corners (16-4). Pennridge goalie Maia Machado had 14 saves in a strong outing. Lexi Dinsmore had a defensive save for the Rams.
“Scoring first gave our team confidence but also woke up Souderton’s offense,” Pennridge coach Becky Spahr said. “Souderton controlled a lot of the possession, but we played tough team defense from forwards through defenders.
“We gave up a lot of corners in the second half (10), but the D stayed tight as a unit and kept Souderton off the board in the second half. I am proud of the way we played tonight, and our team will look to build on this game.”

O’Donnell turned a Baylen Detweiler pass into a goal, breaking a scoreless tie with 4:53 remaining in the first half. Four minute into the second half, Kountroubis found the cage to put the Knights on top 2-0, and for good measure, O’Donnell scored with 5:33 remaining, using a Kountroubis assist.
