PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, RADNOR 2 (OT)
After scoring seven goals in the last two games combined, Gracie Kerns found the cage just once in Friday’s non-league game at Radnor. But this one undoubtedly created a bigger response than the other seven combined because this one – scored with 3:12 remaining in overtime – was the game-winner in Friday’s non-league thriller
It was Radnor that took an early 1-0 lead in the closing seconds of the first quarter. The Colonials evened the score when Sophie Kerns scored on a shot from the top of the circle during corner play, using a Sammy Callan assist.
PW took a 2-1 lead early in the third quarter on a goal by Kayleigh Boland (Maddie Marcial assist) only to see Radnor tie it up with just over four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, setting the stage for overtime and Kerns’ heroics.
Scoring Summary
Gracie Kerns – 1 Goal (Game Winner)
Kayleigh Boland – 1 Goal
Sophie Kerns – 1 Goal
Sammy Callan – 2 Assists
Maddie Marcial – 1 Assist
Bree Molony – 2 Saves
Lily Barclay – 2 Saves
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Charise Halteman:
–The game: “In an exciting and competitive overtime game, PW was able to earn the win against Radnor. We needed some time to adjust to Radnor’s style of play with their big hit balls and high forwards, but I was proud of the team for the adjustments they made after halftime.
“Radnor got on the board first with :28 left in the first quarter. The second quarter saw a back-and-forth game with PW finding the back of the net on a corner play when Sophie Kerns finished with a shot from the top off a Sammy Callan assist.
“After halftime, PW came out and immediately put pressure on Radnor and scored at 12:33 in the third quarter when Kayleigh Boland was able to finish off a pass from Maddie Marcial. The 2-1 score would hold for the large part of the second half until Radnor was able to tie the game with 4:22 left in the fourth quarter.
–OT: “Overtime was tightly contested with each team earning multiple circle entries. Gracie Kerns was able to finish with a low shot to the corner off a pass from Sammy Callan with 3:12 left in overtime to earn the win.”
–Props: “Props to our midfield and defense who played a physical game and made lots of adjustments to secure the win.””
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Wednesday.

UPPER MORELAND 4, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 3
Scoring Summary
First quarter

Second quarter

Third quarter
Olivia Torres (UM)
Wood goal
Molly Gould from Soph Riehle (UM)
Fourth quarter
Wood goal
Soph Riehl from Olivia Torres (UM)
(Submitted by Upper Moreland field hockey)
Although UM dominated the game, Wood took advantage of several opportunities in the circle to keep the game close. Gianna Jones started off the scoring with an unassisted goal with a scramble in front of the goal. Jones has been getting better and better each game and her stickwork has really improved. Then Wood’s Christianson scored to tie it up until half time.
The Bears continued to dominate but could not find the goal. We were doing everything we could to score. MJ Reilly and Olivia Torres were doing a great job creating opportunities in the circle, but we just couldn’t find the back of the cage. In the third quarter, Torres, who dominated the game throughout, lifted a shot to score to put the Bears up. Two minutes later, Wood answered on a miscommunication in the Bears’ backfield. We just had some small mistakes that often happen in any game, but today Wood converted every defensive mistake into a goal. So, credit to Wood for capitalizing on our mistakes.
So with the score tied, Molly Gould came off the bench to score off an assist from Soph Riehle with a scrum in front of the cage with 3:18 left in the quarter to put the Bears back on top.
But Wood wasn’t done as they scored again to tie it up with 5:26 left.
The Bears did not want overtime. We had done strategic subbing throughout the contest because of two tough games back to back. Most of the starters had gotten breaks and were ready to finish the game. We are very lucky this year to have players off the bench ready to go in. This was a total team effort today.
Then with a minute left, Olivia Torres sent a pass to Soph Riehle, who found the cage for the game winner. Soph had been knocking on the door all afternoon being in great position, coming back for the ball and getting shots off and she was finally rewarded by getting the game winner with a reverse shot to win the game!
On defense, Bridget Hess controlled the game with smart free hits and solid block tackling in the midfield. Midfielders Giana Morrison, Harper Richmond and Kourtney Malone ran the field all day getting back and pushing forward. Izzy Fisher had 3 saves in goal.
Up next: Upper Moreland will host Cheltenham for its Senior Recognition game on Wednesday.
