PENNSBURY 5, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0
(Submitted article)
Maya Geller doesn't need to score goals to influence field hockey games. When she does, it only makes Pennsbury that much tougher to beat.
Geller, a Pennsbury junior, scored three goals to lead the Falcons to a 5-0 win over Council Rock North Tuesday afternoon and keep her team unbeaten in the Suburban One National Conference. Pennsbury is now 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the league.
"Maya's impact on our team is huge, no matter who is scoring the goals," Pennsbury coach Jamie Parell said. "She makes a huge difference in every game, whether she scores or not. She is so important in helping us keep possession, and she makes so many good decisions in advancing the ball. When she scores like she did today, it's just a plus."
Geller's usual role, along with her fellow Pennsbury midfielders, is to keep pressure on the ball and keep it in the offensive end of the field, and that's something Pennsbury did very well again against the Indians. In fact, Pennsbury did not allow a shot the entire game, outshooting CR North 22-0. Kyra Deehr-Lewis, impressive the entire day, made 12 saves for the Indians.
Maddie Hackman had a goal and assist for Pennsbury, and she started the scoring when she first drew a penalty corner and then passed it to Geller, who tucked one inside the post 7:18 into the first half. By intermission Geller had scored again, and Kate Chesney had one of her own, to make it 3-0 Falcons.
Pennsbury, continuing to pressure in the second half, made it 4-0 with 24:12 to go when she finally converted after being stopped twice by Deerh-Lewis on a scramble in front. Geller's third provided the final score.
"We had such a big week last week, and this was our only game this week," Parell said. "We needed to have a lot of focus and intensity. We don't want to let up at all or take anything for granted, because our league is filled with really tough teams who are going to give us their best effort. It was good to get this one, but now we need to forget it and just focus on the games that are coming up next."
Pennsbury (6-2, 5-0) will host Harry S Truman on Monday, and Council Rock North (4-4, 3-3) will host Cardinal O’Hara in a non-league game on Monday.

Katelyn Coco scored a pair of goals while teammates Caitlyn Thornton and Mikayla VanAken both added a goal and an assist to lead the Golden Hawks.
Cocco gave the Hawks a lead they would not lose when she found the back of the cage with 18:38 remaining in the first half. Three minutes later, Thornton scored, and then it was VanAken scoring with an assist from Tori Wright to send the Golden Hawks into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Carissa Longmore (VanAken assist) and Cocco (Thornton assist) added second-half goals.
The Hawks held a 10-2 advantage in shots. Rock South goalie Aspen Handel recorded a pair of saves, and Bensalem’s Selena Lee had five saves.

PENNRIDGE 5, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
The visiting Rams picked up their first win of the season with a shutout of the Panthers.
“It was a great team win,” coach Becky Spahr said. “It was fun to watch the girls put together a solid 60 minutes.
“We talked about goals during practice and what our season goals were, and we said, ‘Let’s break it down and go game by game. Let’s beat William Tennent and then we can make new goals.’”
It was mission accomplished for the Rams, who took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
“We’ve improved each game even though our scores might not reflect that,” Spahr said. “We’re a super young team, but we have two awesome senior leaders – Maddie Pennie and Caroline Beljan – so they’re helping out a ton.
“This year is all about growing and getting better and hopefully getting some more wins. I honestly think we’re a good team. We just needed to get the first win under our belts and hopefully go from there.”
Caitlyn Amsden had a hand in all five goals, scoring once and assisting on four others.
“She was out of her mind – she played a phenomenal game both offensively and defensively,” Spahr said. “She is playing both sides of the ball now.
“She was a forward but we made her into a midfielder, so she gets to play and have possession a lot more. She’s just so quick and has great stick skills, and she’s using them this year. I think her intensity has just picked up a whole notch. We’ve asked her to step up leadership-wise, and she’s done that.
Macy Price added a pair of goals.
“Macy Price also played well and is really working to provide speed up field for us,” Spahr said.
Abby Ludlow and Kayla Richards each added a single goal, and Sydney Borneman had an assist.
Pennridge goalie Mackenzie Bross recorded four saves in the shutout win. Tennent’s Sophia Trozzi was credited with 12 saves.
“William Tennent has a great new coaching staff, and it is obvious that their team is learning, working hard and growing,” Spahr said. “Their goalie and defense did a great job.”
Pennridge (1-5, 1-4 SOL) will be on the road at Dock Mennonite Academy on Wednesday, and William Tennent (1-6, 0-5) will host Archbishop Wood on Wednesday in non-league contests.

NORTH PENN 2, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0
The Knights fought off some serious pressure by the Titans in the first half and then received a major boost when Emily Crawford turned a Morgan Reese pass into a goal with 59 seconds remaining in the half.
Goalie Anissa Gardizy once again played a key role for the Knights, turning away all 11 shots she faced – many of those in the first half.
“They had a stretch of corners in the first half, probably about four in a row at one point within minutes of each other,” North Penn coach Shannon McCracken said. “They were getting some good shots off, and Anissa made some big saves during the sequence. The defensive corner team just hung tough.
“Meg Daniels had a key defensive save behind Anissa. When you’re playing a close game like that, them scoring a goal could have changed the momentum, so when your defense is playing strong, it can definitely deflate another team and also give you confidence. When Meg came up with that defensive save, that was key.”
Also key was getting on the board late in the opening half on Crawford’s goal.
“That was the first thing I said to the team during halftime,” McCracken said. “Plus it was great to answer back to a team that was putting pressure on us offensively.
“They’re very persistent in the circle. CB South is much improved. They’re well coached, and they have some good players, so that was a good win.”
Jillian Lampitoc scored North Penn’s second goal, an unassisted goal with 9:20 remaining in regulation.
McCracken credited the play of several players.
“Erica Kelly played well at defensive center mid,” the Knights’ coach said. “Rachel Fisher had a really good second half at right back. She made a lot of stops.
“On the attack, I thought Emily Crawford played really strong. She was using her speed today and making a lot of opportunities for us.”
Both teams had 12 shots with the Knights holding a 13-10 advantage in penalty corners in the evenly-played game.
“(We) had numerous opportunities, but excellent play by North Penn’s goalkeeper and a key defensive save kept us off the scoreboard,” said South coach Pat Toner, going on to acknowledge the play of several players. “Sarah Duimering, Meg Gillard and Casey Reilly played exceptionally well.”
North Penn (4-3, 4-1 SOL) will host Owen J Roberts in a non-league game Wednesday, and Central Bucks South (4-3, 3-2) will host Great Valley in a non-league contest Saturday.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2, SOUDERTON 1
Dani Dundas scored off a Taylor Mason shot with 27:37 remaining in the second half, breaking a 1-1 tie and giving the Bucks their final margin of victory.
“It was the tale of two halves for the Bucks,” West coach Courtney Lepping said. “The first half looked to belong to Souderton as they led in corners (9-4) and shots (13-8).”
But it was the Bucks who got on the scoreboard first when Anya DeAngelis found the cage midway through the half. With 8:02 remaining in the half, Souderton connected on a corner when Jess Gabriel scored with an assist from Courtney Kenah. That tie stood until halftime although the Indians continued to pressure.
In the second half, West held an advantage in shots (6-4) and corners (8-2).
“We put together a really nice second half after starting slow,” Lepping said.
West goalie Laura Kubit was credited with 12 saves in the win. Kaci Murray delivered a defensive save in the first half to keep Souderton from taking the lead.
“Laura played very well,” Lepping said. “Kaci Murray continued her consistent play.
“Caitlin Mulligan and Anya DeAngelis led the forwards. Taylor Mason held together the middle and got our transition going in the second half.”
Souderton goalie Jordyn Michalak was credited with nine saves.
For the Indians, it was their fourth consecutive one-goal game. They have lost four games this season by a total of five goals.
Central Bucks West (6-3, 4-2 SOL) will travel to Spring-Ford on Monday for a non-league game, and Souderton (2-5, 1-4) will host Dock Mennonite Academy on Friday at 5 p.m. in a non-league contest.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, ABINGTON 0
The Patriots opened up a 2-0 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to the non-league win.
“The level of energy from both teams was high and competitive throughout the game,” East coach Michelle Finegan said. “Both teams fought hard, but CB East kept control by maintaining possession for the majority of the game.”
Sophomore Emma Donnelly capitalized on a cross from Cailey Lever for the game’s first goal. Midway through the half, Whitney Dietz made a diving shot to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead, using an Emma Donnelly cross from the right.
Phia Mannino scored early in the second half to give the Patriots their final margin of victory.
Finegan credited the performances of several players in the win.
“Isobel Mannino had a strong defensive game along with Tara Harper and Elizabeth Philipp,” the Patriots’ coach said.
