Wissahickon defeated North Penn in SOL field hockey action Friday.
Non-league
WISSAHICKON 3, NORTH PENN 1
Riley Ball broke a 1-1 tie with a goal late in the second quarter, and the Trojans held that 2-1 lead until the closing seconds of a tightly contested non-league game.
Sophia Havrilla scored the game’s first goal midway through the second quarter, using an assist from Ella Hummel. Less than three minutes later, Laura Albert turned a Catherine McGeehan pass into a goal for a tie that stood until just minutes later when Ball scored with a Caroline Kirkpatrick assist.
Neither team scored until Kendall Crowley connected (Ball assist) with 27 seconds remaining in the game.
The Trojans held a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Wissahickon goalies Meredith Walsh (5 saves) and Ava Fell (6 saves) combined for 11 saves. North Penn’s Kiera Holt was credited with six saves.
“Wissahickon has a strong squad, and they were fast and dynamic today,” North Penn coach Shannon McCracken said. “The Knights played tough against them but were unable to capitalize on offensive opportunities.
“Hats off to their defense who came up with some big stops on a few breakaways for North Penn. Forward Kylie Barwis, Midfielder Maddie Lewis, and Back Rhyan Poole had a strong game for North Penn.”
Wissahickon (12-0, 10-0 SOL) will host Springfield Township Monday, and North Penn (6-6, 6-4) will travel to Harry S Truman on Monday.
