CR North & Pennridge earned wins in SOL field hockey action Monday.
Non-league
PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 2
The Rams – who had not played in 10 days – rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to edge the Panthers in a hard-fought non-league game under the lights at Alumni Field.
“With all our cancellations due to weather last week, it has been a long wait for both teams to play a full game,” Pennirdge coach Becky Spahr said. “Tonight did not disappoint, with lots of back and forth action between teams.
“Quakertown has really improved since last season. They are well-coached, skilled and played tough defense. We had a little trouble solving their press in the first quarter, but regrouped and our team did a good job making the necessary adjustments.”
Cassidy Landis scored less than two minutes into the game to spot the Panthers a 1-0 lead. A goal by Pennridge’s Elsa Parsons (Leah Verespy assist) sent the two teams into halftime deadlocked 1-1.
With six minutes remaining in the third quarter, Maura Kulp scored with a Lindsey Campione assist to give the Rams their first lead.
Quakertown’s Paige Longacre (Sunday Draper assist) evened the score 11:57 into the fourth quarter only to see Keira Horensky score an unassisted goal for the game-winner a minute later.
“Our midfield took control of the possession, causing turnovers and creating a lot of good scoring chances,” Spahr said. “Great play in the midfield from both Lindsey Campione and Keira Horensky.
“Defensively, Maura Kulp is so controlled and composed for us. It was awesome to see her get on the score sheet tonight. I was proud of our fight and intensity tonight. Great to get a solid win.”
The Rams held an edge in shots (10-7) and corners (6-3).
Pennridge’s Molly Bross was credited with five saves in goal, and Anna Haberle had six saves in goal for the Panthers.
Pennridge (1-2, 0-1 SOL) will host Central Bucks West on Tuesday (5 p.m.), and Quakertown (2-1, 1-0) will host Hatboro-Horsham Tuesday.
