HARRY S TRUMAN 21, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 14
Jorden Freeman made sure Truman’s homecoming crowd would go home happy, racing 68 yards for the game-winning touchdown with less than five minutes to play in Saturday’s SOL National Conference game.
Freeman had a big day for the Tigers, finishing with 255 total yards – 132 through the air – and two touchdowns.
It was Freeman hooking up with Sayyid Saunders for a 45-yard touchdown to put the Tigers on the board. They led 7-0 after one quarter, but the Indians pulled to within one after Michael Welde took it in from eight yards out (7-6). Tyrone Willis turned an interception into a touchdown midway through the second quarter, and the Tigers led 14-6 at halftime.
Truman still led by eight heading into the final quarter, but the Indians came back to knot the score when Phil Huddy hauled in a 27-yard option pass from TJ Ayrer and Evan Devine took it in for the two-point conversion, setting the stage for Freeman’s late-game heroics. The Tigers’ final TD drive was set up by an Indian fumble.
Welde finished with a game-high 134 yards rushing.
Harry S Truman (2-4, 1-2 SOL) will be on the road at Pennsbury on Friday, and Council Rock North (1-4, 1-2) will host Abington on Friday.
