CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 45, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 13
The Patriots rebounded from last week’s loss to North Penn to earn an impressive road win over the Indians in a non-league contest on Saturday night.
The tone might well have been set when Ryan Plack recovered a North fumble in the end zone 12 seconds into the contest to put the Patriots on top 7-0. A Myles King interception set up a Matt Szczypiorski to Web Verbit 26-yard touchdown pass. The Indians got on the board on an Evan Devine one-yard TD run, but the Patriots got that right back when Myles King took the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 East lead.
The Patriots led 28-7 after one quarter and added 10 more unanswered points in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 38-7 lead. Included in the offensive onslaught was a 23-yard Barney Amor field goal.
While the Patriots’ offense was stealing the spotlight, the Patriots’ defense was stymying the Indians at every turn, limiting Rock North to just 176 total yards.
Szczypiorski threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Verbit caught seven passes for 118 yards.
A bright spot for the Indians was the performance of junior Michael Welde, who ran for a game-high 158 yards, which included an 80-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring.
Central Bucks East (6-2, 3-2 SOL) will take on Central Bucks West on Friday at War Memorial Field, and Council Rock North (1-6, 1-4) will be on the road at Bensalem on Friday.
