The Panthers exploded for 28 second half points on their way to a no-doubt-about-it win over the host Eagles Saturday afternoon. The win was the first in five conference games for the Panthers, who lost three of their four SOL games by a touchdown or less.
For one half, the Eagles hung tough, but the Panthers served early notice that they were going for broke, recovering an on-sides kick on the opening kickoff and driving down the field for a touchdown. Quarterback Nik Banks took it in from five yards out.
Norristown’s Corey Davenport, who ran for a team-high 154 yards, answered with a 16-yard touchdown run, but the missed extra point kept the Panthers on top 7-6. John Ryan hauled in a 15-yard TD pass from Banks to send the Panthers into halftime with a 14-6 lead.
Vince Icabone’s 15-yard interception return for a touchdown put the Panthers on top 21-6 before Davenport scored his second touchdown of the game, this one from 54 yards out. It would be Norristown’s last hurrah. Dan Costello – who finished with a game-high 156 yards – had a pair of touchdown runs, and Icabone scored on a 15-yard run to close out the scoring for the Panthers.
Tennent (3-5, 1-4 SOL) will host Harry S Truman in its Homecoming Game next Friday while the Eagles (3-5, 1-4) will travel to Council Rock South.
