COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 13, PENNSBURY 6
Pennsbury has not been particularly kind to Council Rock North in the recent past. Last year, the Indians took a 41-19 beating at the hands of the Falcons on the heels of a 57-20 loss the year before and 42-8 defeat one year earlier. Do the math, and the Falcons outscored the Indians 142-37 in the last three seasons.
On Saturday, the Indians not only earned their first win of the 2016 season but also picked up their first win over the Falcons in at least a decade. It wasn’t a masterpiece, and it certainly wasn’t easy, but it was a win. A win that wasn’t ensured until the Indians tipped away a pass in the end zone on the final play of the game.
The Indians got on the scoreboard in the first quarter, capitalizing on a Falcon fumble and taking it 53 yards for the touchdown. Andrew Kelly took it in from six yards out, putting the Indians on top 7-0 after the extra point.
In the second quarter, the Falcons took advantage of a short field and needed to go just 40 yards to knot the score. Quarterback Zach DeMarchis delivered a clutch 28-yard completion to Nate Bost on fourth-and-10, setting up first and goal on the Indians’ two-yard line. With the ball still on the two-yard line on fourth down, DeMarchis sprinted around the right corner for a touchdown that knotted the score 7-7.
Late in the second quarter, Evan Devine found Mason Luff with a two-yard pass that sent the Indians into halftime with a 13-7 lead. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
In a game of limited offense for both sides, it was the two quarterbacks accounting for the most yardage. DeMarchis threw for 161 and ran for 53 more and also scored his team’s only touchdown. Devine had a total of 110 yards, throwing for one TD.
Council Rock North (1-3, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Harry S Truman next Saturday, and Pennsbury (2-3, 0-1) will host Bensalem on Friday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 31, WILLIAM TENNENT 6
The Panthers, who trailed just 10-6 at the intermission, hung with the Patriots for one half, but the Patriots owned the second half, outscoring their visitors 21-0 to win going away.
The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the first quarter with the Patriots getting on the scoreboard first when sophomore Evan O’Donnell found Conor Larkin for a 14-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead. An interception set up the Panthers’ lone touchdown, which came when Sean Bragen punched it in from one yard. The failed extra point allowed the Patriots to hold a 7-6 lead after one quarter.
Barney Amor’s school record 47-yard field goals sent the Patriots into halftime with a 10-6 lead.
The Patriots added three touchdowns in the second half. O’Donnell took it in from one yard out in the third quarter, and in the fourth quarter, O’Donnell found Wes Verbit for a 38-yard TD pass. A three-yard run by Jake Ventresca closed out the scoring.
On a day that saw the Panthers limit the Patriots to just 221 total yards, the Patriots’ defense was even more stingy, allowing just 57 total yards.
Central Bucks East (4-1, 1-1 SOL) will be on the road at Souderton on Friday, and William Tennent (0-5, 0-1) will host Central Bucks West.
