Friday’s SOL openers didn’t feature a whole lot of competitive games. As a matter of fact, the winners outscored the losers 293-79. Below is a brief recap of Thursday and Friday’s games.
National Conference
NORTH PENN 31, PENNRIDGE 7
The Knights were operating on all cylinders in Friday’s SOL opener, dominating both sides of the line of scrimmage.
Nyfease West’s 12-yard touchdown run gave the Knights a 7-0 lead after one quarter, and they led 14-0 after a 55-yard TD run by Nick Isabella. A 37-yard touchdown pass from Reece Udinski to Ricky Johns put the Knights on top 21-0 before the Rams got on the scoreboard to make it a 21-7 game.
With 11 seconds remaining in the half, the Knights tacked on a 38-yard field goal by Brett Bealer to send the Knights into halftime with a 24-7 lead. The field goal was set up by Justin Ostopowicz’s big kickoff return and a clutch 18-yard pass on fourth-and-10 from Udinski to Johns.
They Rams managed just 150 yards of total offense.
North Penn (2-2, 1-0 SOL) will host Central Bucks South next Friday, and Pennridge (2-2, 0-1) will travel to Neshaminy.

PENNSBURY 37, SOUDERTON 0
Daulton Hose accumulated more than 100 yards rushing by halftime, and the Falcons held a comfortable 19-0 lead over the visiting Indians. Not a whole lot changed in the second half as Pennsbury controlled play from start to finish.
Mike Alley also had a big night for the Falcons, throwing for three touchdowns.
The Falcons led 12-0 after one quarter, thanks to a three-yard touchdown run by Hose and a 25-yard TD run by Rob Daly. That lead grew to 19-0 after Alley found Chris Rupprecht with a 17-yard touchdown pass.
Showing their big play capability, the Falcons went on top 25-0 when Alley found Vinnie Ratamess with a 71-yard TD strike in the third quarter. Alley capped an impressive performance with a 74-yard touchdown pass to Daly.
Pennsbury (3-1, 1-0) will host Abington next Friday, and Souderton (2-2, 0-1) will host Bensalem.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 46, BENSALEM 16
The Titans took a 26-16 lead into halftime and led 32-16 after three quarters before putting 14 points on the board in the final quarter.
Nate Norris put the Titans on the scoreboard with a two-yard touchdown run, and a Sam Thompson three-yard run made it a 13-0 game after one quarter. The Owls got on the scoreboard on the first of two Malcolm Carey touchdown runs – the first from one yard out to trim South’s lead to 13-8. Ian Vogt found Stephen Iannuzzi with a 13-yard touchdown pass, putting the Titans on top 19-8, and it was a 26-8 South lead when Vogt connected for his second TD pass – this one a 19-yarder to Joe Bechta. Another Carey touchdown run made it a 26-16 game at the intermission. The Titans closed out the game with 20 unanswered points, a second-half tear that was ignited by a 40-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Tyler Watson.
Central Bucks South (2-2, 1-0 SOL) will travel to North Penn, and Bensalem (0-4, 0-1) will be on the road at Souderton.

Continental Conference
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 50, HARRY S TRUMAN 15
The Golden Hawks exploded for 28 third-quarter points, turning a 15-15 halftime tie into a rout.
Brendan Patterson – who scored five touchdowns – hauled in a Shaun Stackhouse pass for the game’s opening score, but Truman answered with a touchdown of its own, and it was a 7-7 game after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Matt Olsen scored his second TD on a two-yard run to give the Tigers their first and only lead (15-7), but a touchdown run by Patterson made it a 15-15 game at the intermission.
The second half belonged to the Golden Hawks. The third quarter was highlighted by three Patterson touchdown runs and an 82-yard TD run by Kyle Hickey, who raced for more than 100 yards to lead the Golden Hawks.
Council Rock South (2-2, 1-0 SOL) will host Central Bucks East next Friday, and Truman (2-2, 1-1) will host Central Bucks West.

QUAKERTOWN 56, WILLIAM TENNENT 7
The Panthers have posted staggering numbers this season. Through four games, they put up 177 points while allowing just 32. In Friday’s battle of two teams that cruised through their non-league schedules to 3-0 marks, the Panthers scored 49 points in the first two quarters en route to yet another rout.
Rob Burns did most of the damage, scoring five touchdowns and accumulating close to 250 yards in just two quarters. He scored on a 14-yard run to put the Panthers on the board, igniting a 28-point first quarter. He capped the half with a 39-yard TD run that put the Panthers on top 49-0. The Panthers also received touchdown runs from quarterback Tom Garlick and Jon Potynski in the opening half.
Tennent scored its only touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Quakertown (3-0, 1-0 SOL) will host Norristown next Friday, and William Tennent (3-1, 0-1) will travel to Council Rock North next Saturday (1 p.m.).

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 31, NORRISTOWN 28 (OT)
Kenny Doak connected on a 32-yard field goal in overtime to propel the Bucks to their first win of the season.
West broke a scoreless tie early in the second quarter when Eddie Shields found Kevin O’Hanlon with a one-yard touchdown pass. The Bucks took that 7-0 lead into halftime.
The visiting Eagles knotted the score when Khalif Sinclair returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. Norristown capitalized on a West fumble to go on top 14-7, but when Shields found O’Hanlon with a 59-yard touchdown pass, the score was deadlocked 14-14. The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the fourth quarter, setting the stage for overtime. The Bucks intercepted a pass on Norristown’s first possession in OT and then won it on the Doak field goal.
Shields threw for four touchdowns and 261 yards to lead the Bucks’ offensively.
Central Bucks West (1-3, 1-0 SOL) will travel to Truman next Friday, and Norristown (2-2, 0-1) will be on the road at Quakertown.

American Conference
UPPER DUBLIN 42, CHELTENHAM 6
The Flying Cardinals spent the non-league season rolling to one lopsided win after another. That trend continued in Friday’s conference opener as the Flying Cardinals raced to a 21-0 lead at the end of one quarter and took a 42-0 lead into halftime. They didn’t score in the second half while the Panthers scored their lone touchdown in the final quarter.
Ryan Stover completed 8-of-10 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown. Stacey Gardnder ran for 65 yards on five carries.
Stover took it in from 25 yards to put the Flying Cardinals on the scoreboard, and then it was Gary Fields pulling down a 20-yard TD pass from Stover. Gardner’s 27-yard touchdown run and Todd Spirt’s third PAT put the Cards on top 21-0.
In the second quarter, Gardner picked up his second touchdown – this time on a 35-yard run. David Bryant’s 14-yard run put the Cards on top 35-0. A 45-yard Stover to Cole Swiger touchdown pass closed out the scoring for the Cardinals.
Brandon Mack put the Panthers on the scoreboard with a 60-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Upper Dublin (4-0, 1-0 SOL) will host Springfield next Friday, and Cheltenham (1-3, 0-1) will travel to Upper Moreland.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 20, UPPER MORELAND 13
In a battle of neighboring rivals, the visiting Hatters pulled off a stunner, upsetting a Golden Bear squad that brought a 3-0 record into Thursday’s SOL opener.
The Hatters struck first, getting on the scoreboard when quarterback Casey Walsh found Calvin Broaddus with an 11-yard TD pass. They took that 6-0 lead into the second quarter when they upped their advantage to 13-0 after Walsh punched it in from two yards out.
The Hatters’ lead grew to 20-0 after a 40-yard TD run from Walsh.
Upper Moreland got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter, thanks to a Rodney Morgan nine-yard run, and it was a 20-6 game at the intermission. A Morgan interception prevented the Hatters from increasing their lead, and the Golden Bears made it a one-touchdown game when Casey Decker scored on a two-yard quarterback keeper, trimming the Hatters lead to 20-13 after three quarters.
The Hatters’ defense held the rest of the way, and their first win was in the books.
Hatboro-Horsham (1-3, 1-0 SOL) will host Upper Merion next Friday, and Upper Moreland (3-1, 0-1 SOL) will host Cheltenham.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 34, WISSAHICKON 20
The Spartans made history on Thursday night, defeating Wissahickon for the first time in 25 years.
Justin Hill accounted for more than 300 yards of total offense and had a hand in all five touchdowns in a contest that saw the Spartans explode for 20 fourth quarter points. The fourth quarter outburst – ignited by Hill – put some distance between the Spartans and Trojans, who found themselves locked in a tightly contested game for three quarters.The game started out on a promising note for the Trojans, who turned a Spartan fumble into a touchdown when Mike Schoenleber took it in from 18 yards out, but a 50-yard Justin Hill touchdown run knotted the score 7-7 late in the quarter.
Mason Menhardt connected on a pair of field goals in the second quarter, sending the Trojans into halftime with a 13-7 lead.
Late in the third quarter, the Spartans went back on top (14-13) when Hill scored from three yards out after a Trojan fumble. They took that lead into the fourth quarter and upped their advantage to 21-13 when Hill scored his third touchdown of the game – this one from one yard out.
Hill hooked up with George Baughan for a 27-yard touchdown pass, putting the Spartans on top 28-13. The Trojans gamely battled back with Mike Marino finding Antuan Lloyd for a touchdown that made it a 28-20 game. Hill had an answer, taking it in from 52 yards out for the 34-20 final.
Hill finished the night with 217 yards rushing and 115 yards passing to go along with his five TDs.
Springfield (2-1, 1-0 SOL) will travel to Upper Dublin next Friday while Wissahickon (1-3, 0-1) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 42, UPPER MERION 14
The Colonials opened up a 21-0 lead after Nyfease Nasir took it in from 67 yards out, but the Vikings staged a rally to close out the opening half. They got on the scoreboard when quarterback Jarrett Quinn found teammate Isaiah Graham-Mosley with a touchdown pass, and the Vikings made good on the two-point conversion to trim PW’s lead to 21-8.
Another Nasir touchdown run – this one from 41 yards out – put the Colonials on top 28-8, but when the Vikings turned a fumble recovery into a touchdown in the closing seconds, they made it a 28-14 game at the intermission. That score held until the fourth quarter when the Colonials tacked on a pair of touchdowns.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (4-0, 1-0 SOL) will travel to Wissahickon next Friday, and Upper Merion (2-2, 0-1) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham.
