CLASS 6A 3rd place playback
#5 SPRING-FORD 50, #11 PENNSBURY 33
The Falcons struggled to find their offense in Saturday’s playback game at Spring-Ford, falling behind 8-1 after one quarter and trailing 20-8 at halftime.
“We had a really tough time getting started today,” Pennsbury assistant coach Kaitlin Kelly said. “There seemed to be a lack of energy that carried through the entire first half.
“We weren’t communicating on defense and had too many turnovers on offense. Those were the first issues addressed in the locker room at halftime. When we came out in the second half, it was a much better-looking performance by us.”
The Falcons – behind 12 points from Sofia Vitucci – outscored their hosts 17-12 to trim the Rams’ lead to 32-25. The Rams closed out the game with an 18-9 frame on their way to a win in Saturday’s third-place game.
Vitucci’s 17 points, which included two 3s, led the Falcons. Neve Davis added six points.
The Rams’ balanced attack was led by the 12-point effort on four 3-pointers of Sienna Miller.
“Spring-Ford is a very good team,” Kelly said. “The way they move the ball on offense is excellent. They have all the pieces: shooters, length, a true post presence, and experience. That’s hard to beat.
“But we are very proud of our girls and what they have done to get to this point. Just like in our Suburban One League, we accomplished many of the goals we had for our play in districts. Now we’re excited and ready to accomplish more goals in states.”
Pennsbury (20-8, 12-4 SOL) will face Nazareth, District 11’s third place team, in Friday’s opening round of the PIAA 6A Tournament.
