CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 47, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 25
The Patriots picked up their third win of the week on Saturday, and it was defense that was the difference maker as they limited the visiting Vikings to just four points in the second half.
“It was a good team effort on both sides,” coach Liz Potash said.
The Vikings actually led by one after one quarter, but the Patriots – behind seven points from Caroline Pla – outscored their visitors 15-9 in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 26-21 advantage. Pla scored all of her game-high 14 points in the half.
The second half belonged to the Patriots, who outscored the Vikings 21-4 after the intermission.
“Mia Salvati was a spark,” Potash said. “We came out of halftime, and she hit a three. She had a couple tips and deflections on the defensive end, and it got us going.”
Salvati and Aubrey DeAngelis both finished with seven points.
Gabby Wilga had a big day under the backboards, finishing with 10 rebounds – six defensive and four offensive.
“Since Elyse (Shine) has gone down, she has really stepped up,” Potash said of Wilga. “I thought she had a great spring, great summer, great fall.
“I really saw her game go up a level, but what she has been able to do for us this year is way beyond my expectations for where she would be at this time. Obviously, we need it, and it’s a tribute to some of the success we’re having right now, but she’s really playing well for us.”
Central Bucks East (6-7, 3-3 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks West on Friday.

Haley Keenan had herself a day, scoring a game-high 25 points to lead the Owls. The win was the ninth of the season for the Owls.
“Haley played well – they all played well,” coach Sheldon Per said. “They’re playing better.”
Behind 18 points from Keenan, the Owls opened up a 24-11 halftime lead. They added to that lead in the second half.
Madison Rorer’s six points led the Lady Panthers.
“Right now we’re struggling in all areas of the game,” Cheltenham coach Ben Bowman said. “We need to dig deep and find our confidence with a tougher stretch ahead.”

The Panthers trailed by just one after one quarter, but they were outscored 18-7 in the second quarter and went into halftime trailing 31-19.
“One of our biggest downfalls all season has been coming out flat to start games, but I thought today we did a really good job of bringing the intensity and were efficient offensively in the first quarter,” coach Laura Whitney said. “We have had a rough stretch the last few weeks and were coming off an emotional loss last night, so I was afraid that mentally we weren’t going to be ready.
“Foul trouble in the second quarter really hurt us. We struggled to score and had some costly turnovers. To make things worse we gave up three offensive rebounds.”
The Panthers matched the Crusaders basket for basket in the third quarter and still trailed 48-36. Haley Crossley scored 10 points and Hannah Reimel had six to ignite the Panthers. The Crusaders put the game completely out of reach with a 21-7 fourth quarter.
“At halftime, we told the girls we have to just keep playing,” Whitney said. “Basketball is a game of runs, and if we can weather the storm, we will make our run.
“I was really pleased with how they responded in the third. We could have easily folded, but we matched them point for point. We showed a lot of patience offensively and moved the ball really well and got some great looks. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the stops we needed to give ourselves a legitimate shot. I give our girls a lot of credit though. It’s hard to find the positive when you work so hard and you don’t see the results. Our girls continue to fight, and that’s what I love about them.”
Crossley led the Panthers with 16 points, which included an 8-for-14 effort at the foul line. Chelsea Meltzer added nine and Reimel, eight points. Caitlin Somerville contributed seven.
The Crusaders put three players in double figures – Emily Smith (17 points), Timaya Lewis-Eutsey (16) and Maile Erwin (15).
William Tennent (2-12, 0-5 SOL) will host Harry S Truman on Tuesday.
