CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 52, QUAKERTOWN 45
The Panthers gave the defending conference champions all they could handle before the Bucks – thanks to a 16-11 fourth quarter effort and some foul shots down the stretch – pulled away for the hard fought win.
Quakertown coach Brittany Remmey, whose team lost to the Bucks 63-22 on Dec. 11, had high praise for her players.
“I am so very proud of these ladies tonight with the heart and teamwork they displayed,” the Panthers’ coach said. “West did a great job of finishing at the foul line, but I thought our girls handled their pressure well.
“Improvements are happening all over the court.”
Freshman Tori Abelson delivered a huge performance for West, leading all scorers with 19 points. Five of those came in the final quarter when the Bucks also saw senior Makenzie Mason score seven of her 12 points, including a 5-for-6 effort at the foul line. Maggie Rakowsky (13 points) buried 4-of-5 from the line in the quarter. Mason led the Bucks with eight rebounds while Rakowsky had five.
The Bucks opened up a 12-6 lead after one quarter only to watch the Panthers reel off 10 straight points to go on top 16-12. The Bucks had an answer, closing out the half with an 8-2 run of their own to go into halftime with a 20-18 lead.
The Bucks took a 36-34 lead into the final quarter and sealed the win at the foul line, connecting on 10-of-14 in the quarter.
Jill Martin led the Panthers with 13 points, which included a 5-for-8 effort at the foul line. Meghan Klee added 12 points, including eight points in a third quarter that saw the Panthers match the Bucks basket for basket. Brooke Alwine and Maggie Garlick both scored seven points.
“Meghan Klee and Jill Martin were offensive threats,” Remmey said. “Jill finished under the rim on offensive boards as well as being a huge presence in the paint on defense. Klee had a great offensive game attacking the basket and finishing strong.
“Spenser Gray changed the tone of the game with her deflections and steals, which snowballed into Olivia Klee and Marina Cooke doing the same.”
Central Bucks West (10-4, 6-2 SOL) will face Council Rock South in the SOL Challenge on Saturday at Upper Merion (12 noon). Quakertown (3-10, 1-7) will host Neshaminy on Saturday (4 p.m.).

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 43, PENNRIDGE 26
The Patriots rode their stingy defense to a convincing win over the Lady Rams. They led 14-1 after one quarter and took a 21-13 lead into halftime. They went on to outscore their hosts 22-13 in the second half.
“Our primary focus both times we played them was to shut down Devan Rimmer and shut down Lydia Konstanzer because they can both score the ball,” East coach Liz Potash said. “We switched things up a little bit tonight.
“Bri Talbot really did a fantastic job on Lydia and really didn’t let her get into the flow of the game. When Bri had a couple of fouls, Grace Stewart came in and played her. Taking away Lydia is a huge part of their offense. In doing that, I think they had trouble getting into any kind of rhythm. Megan Browne did a really nice job on Rimmer, and everyone else helped.”
Konstanzer led the Lady Rams with 10 points to go along with 12 rebounds and three steals. Devan Rimmer was held to four points as the Rams’ veteran duo combined for 14 points.
In addition to turning in a standout defensive effort, Talbot collected a double-double with a game high 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds – nine on the defensive end. Talbot connected on 8-of-10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to seal the Lady Rams’ fate. Bridget Birkhead added nine rebounds – seven defensive – and six points.
“The first time we played them – they’re very aggressive on the boards for offensive rebounds,” Potash said. “We talked to the girls a lot that it was going to come down to boxing out and limiting those girls. I thought we did a really good job on the boards tonight.
“Looking at the stats, they still had 10 offensive rebounds but not many putbacks.”
Kyra Scaliti added nine points for the Patriots while Bailey McManus had seven points and four steals.
“Pennridge is a nice team,” Potash said. “I think they’re tough. We just came out really strong from the beginning.
“Any time they scored and tried to come back, we were able to answer. In the fourth quarter, I thought we played really disciplined – just working the clock and looking for good shots – and showed some signs of maturity. We want to stay in the top half of the league, and this was a nice win to stay in the top four.”
Central Bucks East (9-5, 5-3 SOL) will host Wissahickon in the SOL Challenge on Saturday (3 p.m.). Pennridge (8-6, 3-5) will face William Tennent at Plymouth Whitemarsh on Saturday (6:30 p.m.).
