Cheltenham’s Mia Leonard had another big outing in the Lady Panthers’ win over Bodine Monday.
CHELTENHAM 51, BODINE 16
Mia Leonard is having herself quite a season.
The Lady Panthers’ senior center – in just over two quarters of action – racked up a triple-double, scoring 25 points, pulling down 30 rebounds and blocking 11 shots against an overmatched Bodine squad.
“There clearly wasn’t anyone who could match up to her today – they were really tiny,” coach Brendan Nolan said. “But she’s one of those kids – it’s not like she’s dominating the ball. She has to go get it.
“Thirty rebounds – that’s effort. Shots go up, and obviously, there were plenty of missed shots to go around, and she just goes and gets them. You have to commend that.”
As for Leonard’s 11 blocks, Nolan pointed to Leonard’s growing confidence.
“Her timing is getting really good,” the Lady Panthers’ coach said. “She’s not getting in foul trouble, she’s not going down to block shots. She’s just waiting for them to come up.
“When she doesn’t get them, she doesn’t get frustrated. She just boxes out and gets the rebound, and if they score, she just has that attitude – well, she earned it. I’ll get her next play. It’s exactly how you want someone to defend.”
Danielle Brown added eight points and six rebounds for the Lady Panthers, who led 28-6 at halftime and did not allow a point in the second quarter.
“Kelia Holmes put in a nice game off the bench – she had four points, but she had six rebounds and four assists,” Nolan said.
Cheltenham (8-7, 4-3 SOL) will host Springfield on Tuesday.
