WILLIAM TENNENT 54, BARTRAM 46
Things didn’t exactly go as planned for the Panthers on Monday at the Martin Luther King Showcase at the Community College of Philadelphia. Coach Paul Veltre was expecting his team to face Franklin Towne Charter but instead found the Panthers squared off against Bartram.
“We didn’t know anything about them,” coach Paul Veltre said.
Senior Angie Pomponio was unfazed by the switch in opponents, torching Bartram for a game-high 25 points.
“She did very well once again,” Veltre said of his senior captain. “She was doing it all for us. She had a couple of three’s as well.”
The Panthers led 19-12 after one quarter and took a 38-25 lead into halftime. Bartram outscored the Panthers 21-16 in the second half to make things interesting.
“It was pretty tight in the second half,” Veltre said.
Pomponio – who connected on 11-of-12 from the foul line for the game – buried 10-of-11 of those in the second half. For her efforts, the senior captain received the team MVP award.
Sophomore Kyla Gibson also finished in double figures for the Panthers with 13 points.

GWYNEDD MERCY 44, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 40
In a contest that came down to the wire, it was Gwynedd Mercy junior Bridget Coleman burying a three-pointer with just over two minutes remaining to erase a three-point deficit. The Monarchs spent the remainder of the game taking trips to the foul line, converting 6-of-8 in the final 90 seconds of the game to earn the hard-fought win.
“I saw them on Saturday against Central Bucks West, and I was really impressed with Council Rock South and the way they executed out on the floor,” said Gwynedd coach Tom Lonergan of West 61-49 win over Rock South. “They had it down to six points, and it was a two possession game with just under six minutes left in the game. That game was a lot closer than the scoreboard showed.
“A lot of credit goes to CR South. They’ve improved tremendously since the beginning of the year. I give a lot of credit to Monica (Stolic) for that.”
The Golden Hawks, who trailed 24-19 at the intermission in Monday’s non-league tilt, took a 35-32 lead into the final quarter, thanks to a 16-8 third quarter surge. Shannon Taub, who led the Hawks with 12 points, connected for eight points in the quarter while Kasey Schlupp and Payton Spadaccino (10 points) each added four. In a game that featured seven three-pointers by each team, the Hawks buried four in the third quarter – two by Taub.
The Monarchs (13-2) answered with a 12-5 fourth quarter to close out the game.
“We were just a little bit fresher at the end of the game, and I give a lot of credit for that to our bench, which gave us some solid minutes,” Lonergan said.
The Hawks struggled to maintain possession in the fourth quarter, unofficially turning the ball over eight times against the Monarchs’ pressure defense.
“I think it was like a chain reaction,” said Stolic. “Our turnovers killed us. We really couldn’t get in our delay because we couldn’t set it up.
“It’s a learning experience. We’re playing very good competition, and hopefully, it will prepare us for the rest of the league.”
Coleman led the Monarchs with 16 points while Maura Conroy had 12 and Erica DiCandido, 10 points.
Rock South is 9-7 overall (6-2 SOL).
