Souderton & Cheltenham notched non-league wins in SOL girls’ basketball action Saturday.

Non-league
CHELTENHAM 52, ARCHBISHOP RYAN 37
Cassie Bugg scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Panthers to the non-league win. The 6-1 junior scored 12 of those points in a huge first half, propelling Cheltenham to a 28-17 halftime lead.
If there was any doubt about the outcome, those doubts were put to rest in a third quarter that saw the Lady Panthers go on an 18-7 tear to go on top 46-24.
“It felt good to get a win after a tough week,” Cheltenham coach Ben Bowman said. “We’re finally back at full strength and playing good basketball.”
Bugg was joined in double figures by Jiah Price, whose 12 points included a 4-for-4 effort at the foul line, and Paige Powell, who added 11 points – eight in the second half.
Maya Simmons had seven points in her second game back after being sidelined with an injury, and Arianna Davis added six points – all in the third quarter.
“Getting Maya back in the mix has been great for us,” Bowman said. “Jiah has stepped up and had 12 points and 12 boards today.
“Cassie has also started to find her rhythm with 16 points and nine boards. Paige helped to run the offense and dished out seven assists. It was just overall great team effort. I’m excited for us to build on this play for the next couple of weeks.”
Cheltenham (6-7, 2-5 SOL) will host Wissahickon on Tuesday in a crossover game.

SOUDERTON 43, POPE JOHN PAUL II 31
The young Indians made it two wins in a row, following Friday night’s win at Harry S Truman with a road win at Pope John Paul II less than 24 hours later.
“We went into the game shorthanded due to Jac Bermel being sick, and we needed other people to step up and they did,” Souderton coach Lynn Carroll said.
Freshman Olivia Herron led a balanced Indian attack with 14 points, which included a 4-for-6 effort at the foul line. She jumpstarted the Indians’ offense with nine first-quarter points, including two 3-pointers. By halftime, she had 12 points, and the Indians led 19-15.
“Olivia had the best game of her young career so far,” Carroll said. “She scored 9 of our 13 points in the first quarter, she was looking to attack the rim and was shooting with confidence.”
Brooke Fenchel made sure the Indians sealed PJP’s fate with all 12 of her points in the second half. She had six points in the third quarter – which included a 4-for-4 effort at the foul line, allowing the Indians to stretch their lead to 31-17 with a 12-2 burst. She added six more in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer.
“Brooke had another big game for us,” Carroll said. “She guarded their best player the whole game and held her to five points and had a great second half on the offensive end.”
Also for the Indians, Kiera Fadden added six points and was a force under the backboards with 11 rebounds. Madison Bealer also had six points. Julia Purvy sparked the defense with five steals.
“Julia sat most of the first half in foul trouble but had a great second half,” Carroll said. “She finished with five steals and had a ton of deflections.
“Madison had another really solid game – she played smart on defense and made good decisions on the offensive end.
“We’ve been giving up too many offensive rebounds recently, and Emily (Dick) and Kiera (Fadden) really battled under the boards today. Kiera pulled in 12 rebounds and was finishing around the basket.
“I also thought Alaina (Picard) gave us a nice spark off the bench.”
Souderton (3-9, 1-6 SOL) will host Pennsbury in a crossover game Tuesday.
