UPPER DUBLIN 56, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 17
There’s nothing quite like a torrid offensive performance to bounce back from several cold shooting nights in losses to Plymouth Whitemarsh this week.
The Flying Cardinals seemingly could not miss in Friday’s win with Amy Ngo’s 21-point effort leading the way.
“It was great to come out tonight and shoot the ball really well,” UD coach Morgan Funsten said. “We shot 65 percent in the first half.”
Ngo was the catalyst in UD’s 26-4 start out of the gate, burying three 3-pointers and scoring 16 of her game high 21 points in the first quarter. Ngo also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Aditi Foster and Geena Sarnoski added seven points each, and Bliss Brenner contributed six points as well as eight assists. Colleen Klammer’s nine rebounds led the Cardinals. She also had three blocked shots and two steals.
Upper Dublin (4-5, 2-3 SOL) will participate in the Blue Star Showcase at the Riverwinds Community Center (N.J.) on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
“We’re looking forward to a tough challenge on Sunday against Westtown,” Funsten said.
Springfield Township (2-5, 0-4) will travel to Quakertown on Tuesday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 45, CHELTENHAM 18
It’s been a rough season for Cheltenham, and after an extended shutdown for COVID protocols, the Lady Panthers had to face an undefeated PW squad with lofty expectations.
“I’m proud of the girls for competing no matter the score,” Cheltenham coach Ben Bowman said. “We have a ways to go but we will get there.”
For the Colonials, Friday’s game came less than 24 hours after a hard fought win over archrival Upper Dublin in the second meeting between the two schools this week. They cruised in this one, opening up a 30-13 lead into halftime on their way to their eighth win without a loss.
“It was a night we let everybody play,” PW coach Dan Dougherty said. “Ben (Bowman), their coach, is such a nice guy, and I think they practiced two times in the last month. I feel bad for the situation over there.
“They were very gracious hosts, they’re a very class act over there. Coming off last night’s emotional game, I thought the girls embraced what we were trying to do tonight, trying to learn how to reset offensive plays and trying to possess the ball for 20 seconds before we shoot. It was a game we tried to put the onus on the girls – ‘You call plays, you call defenses out there.’ For the most part, things went well.”
Abby Sharpe’s 10 points led a balanced PW attack while Kaitlyn Flanagan and Erin Daley both added nine. Jordyn Thomas and Lainey Allen each contributed seven points.
“Abby Sharpe really played well,” Dougherty said. “
Mikahila Leighton’s 11 points led the Lady Panthers.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (8-0, 5-0 SOL) will host New Hope-Solebury on Tuesday. Cheltenham (0-5, 0-3) will host Academy Park in a non-league game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
