NOTRE DAME 39, UPPER DUBLIN 32
The Flying Cardinals had an early wake-up call for Sunday’s game at the Blue Star Invitational at Jefferson University. Not a whole lot went their way in a first quarter that saw the Cards fall behind 10-5. They spent the rest of the game playing catchup before falling for the first time this season.
“We were excited with the challenge of playing Notre Dame, and with such an early 9:15 start, we knew getting off to a good start was important,” said UD coach Morgan Funsten. “Unfortunately, we played a sloppy first quarter where we gave up six offensive rebounds, committed seven fouls and only scored five points. We got in foul trouble in the first half and were unable to press the way we wanted to.”
Upper Dublin went into halftime on the short end of a 20-14 score. Three players accounted for all of UD’s point with Amy Ngo’s five points leading the way.
Notre Dame all but sealed the Cardinals’ fate with a 13-8 third quarter.
“Our girls showed a lot of fight and heart down the stretch, despite being down 11 points entering the fourth quarter,” Funsten said. “We cut it to four on a few occasions but couldn’t get over the hump. It was definitely not for a lack of effort and I’m so proud of the energy and togetherness our girls showed in the comeback bid.”
Amy Ngo’s 13 points led the Cardinals while Tamia Clark had 10 points and seven rebounds. Megan Ngo added eight points, thanks to a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line. She also had seven assists and three steals. Bridget DiMartile contributed seven rebounds to go along with two blocks.
The Cardinals connected on just 9 of 42 shots (21.4 percent).
“We have been shooting the ball well all year, but today was not one of those games,” Funsten said. “Things didn’t go our way today, but we are going to keep working and stick together. We are looking forward to practice tomorrow.”
Upper Dublin (11-1, 7-0 SOL) will travel to Upper Moreland on Tuesday for a crossover game.
