BENSALEM 34 UPPER MERION 29
The Owls are displaying a penchant for strong finishes. In Thursday’s non-league game at Upper Merion, the Owls found themselves trailing by 10 in the closing seconds of the third quarter.
“(Emily Wineburg) just tossed it up with one second left and hit the three, and now we’re down seven,” coach Sheldon Per said. “That rejuvenated the team, and we full-court pressed them and got a couple of steals.
“Each of them did something great. Wineburg hit the three, and when we were down two with less than a minute to go, (Chloe) Munyon hit her only three of the game to put us up one. Down three and Upper Merion coming down to tie it up, (Delaney) Bell, the freshman, got a steal.
“(Haley) Keenan was just miraculous. She was 6-for-10 from the foul line. They boxed her literally the whole game, and she still was really good. She had five steals in the fourth quarter.
“Michaela Sit had a tough first half, and she had four points and 11 rebounds in the fourth quarter. It was just mammoth. In the last five minutes, they all played well. Where were they the first 27?”
Per answered his own question.
“They played last night away,” he said. “It’s tough to go to school, go to class and then take a long bus ride to Upper Merion and play a team that anybody has a chance to win. It’s tough to play back-to-back.”
The Owls, who trailed by three after one quarter, were on the short end of a 19-10 score at halftime. The stage was set for a second-half comeback.
Keenan’s 12 points led the Owls while Wineburg had 11.
Bensalem (8-3, 3-2 SOL) will host Council Rock North on Friday.
“They’ve won the games they should have won – they’re 8-3,” Per said. “They have three league wins, and they haven’t won three league games in three years. They’re really flying now.”

The Owls used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from the pesky Tigers.
“This was a game where we led but not by much,” coach Sheldon Per said. “We had an eight-point lead, but it was down to two at the half (20-18).
“They took a four-point lead, and again, in the fourth quarter, we outscored them 17-9 and won by nine.”
For the Owls, Haley Keenan turned in a glittering 26-point effort. Michael Sit and Chloe Munyon both had nine. Delaney Bell added eight.
For the Tigers, who took 32 trips to the foul line, Haniyyah Jones had a big night, finishing with 18 points. Daisha Campbell added 12.
