SOL non-league crossover
BENSALEM 67, PENNRIDGE 28
The Owls – sparked by eight points from Grace McShane – raced out of the gate to a 21-9 first quarter lead over the visiting Lady Rams. They took a 37-22 lead into halftime and never looked back.
Key players: : Jordyn Bell’s glittering 20-point performance included six 3-pointers with 14 of those points coming in the opening half. Grace McShane added 16 points – 12 in the first half. Sydney Daut also finished the game scoring in double figures with 13 points.
For the Lady Rams, Madison Lapp scored 11 points.
Bensalem coach Steve Johnson
–The game: “Pennridge came out to play and shot the lights out in the first half. We played better defense in the second half which I’m happy about.”
–Props: Jordyn Bell and Sydney Daut both had huge nights for us. I’m proud of them. They both work so hard and do the little things to help our team succeed. I thought our guards Mischa Ellzy and Kamiya Alexander brought excellent energy into the game.”

The Bucks, who led 8-2 after one quarter, blew the game wide open with a 20-point second quarter to go into halftime with a 28-5 lead on their way to the big win.
Key players: Marleigh Mallon’s 16 points led the Bucks, who received points from 10 different players. Scarlett Baumgardner added eight points.

–The game: We are very proud of all of our girls. Playing together and moving the ball to get looks in rotation is something we always stress. They played together, looking for one another and knocking down shots. It was a great team effort.”

The visiting Lady Panthers threw some serious defense at their hosts, shutting them out in the first quarter and allowing just eight points in the opening half. Cheltenham went into halftime with a 28-8 lead and never looked back.
Key players: Maya Simmons had a monster game for the Lady Panthers, finishing with an impressive double-double that included 16 points and 14 rebounds. She also had three assists, two steals and two blocked shots. Paige Powell added 14 points, nine steals and four assists while Isabella Brown also finished in double figures with 12 points. Kennedy Tolbert had five rebounds.
For the home team, Alexa Reich’s six points led the way.

The Indians notched a big road win in crossover play.
They led 10-8 after one quarter but stretched that lead to 25-16 by halftime. Freshman Maddie Nenstiel was the catalyst in the Indians’ 15-point second quarter with three 3-pointers.
Rock South – sparked by the seven-point effort of Emerson Gunther – trimmed six points off that lead with a 16-point third quarter, and the Hawks trailed by just three (35-32) heading into the final quarter when the two teams exchanged baskets.
Key players: Maddie Nenstiel led a balanced Souderton attack with 12 points. Olivia Herron added nine, and both Kiera Fadden and Alaina Picard had seven points.
For the Golden Hawks, Emerson Gunther led the way with 15 points, which included three 3s. Bella Hettler added 11 points – seven in the first half. Gillian Martin had eight points.

–The game: “We played great team defense and did an outstanding job guarding the 3-point line. To play on the road and pick up a big win was great for the girls.”

The Panthers opened up a 15-11 lead after one quarter and upped their advantage to 32-18 after a 17-point second quarter on their way to the win. Megan Volz jumpstarted the Panthers with nine points in the first quarter. Avery Kocur went on a tear in the second, burying a pair of 3s and scoring 10 points in the frame to ensure the Panthers stayed on top.
Key players: Avery Kocur scored 16 points to lead the Panthers. She buried a pair of 3s and scored 10 in the second quarter. Megan Volz added 15 points – nine in the first and six in the second quarter – to lead the Panthers. Halie Staub added nine points.
For the Hatters, Izzie Allen had 12 points while Angelica Visceglia added seven.
William Tennent coach Laura Whitney:
–The game: “Great team win. We got contributions from everyone and had balanced scoring. I thought it was one of our most complete performances tonight. Our defense and rebounding were great all game. We did a nice job of containing (Angelica) Visceglia (#10) and used our pressure to create turnovers that converted to easy baskets. We played such unselfish team basketball and did a great job of sharing the ball.”
–Props: “Big V (Megan Volz) had one of her best performances of the season. She came out aggressive and really gave us the spark we needed to start the game. Despite giving up about five inches, she plays with no fear. I thought she did a great job of imposing her will and got to her spots and had some really impressive finishes. She was also a beast on the boards and showed a lot of toughness.
“Avery (Kocur) did a great job of getting downhill and showed great body control with some tough floaters. She makes the game so much easier for her teammates with her ability to control the pace of the game and her court vision to find open teammates.
“Aubrey (Lynch) gave us quality minutes off the bench and always provides that defensive energy to get us going. She has become one of the best on the ball defenders I’ve seen and has a knack for coming up with big offensive rebounds.
“Giada (Cosenza) hit two big 3s and continues to mature as the season goes along.
“Hannah (Wong) battled a little foul trouble the first half, but I thought she played with great poise the second half and had some really strong finishes.”
Hatboro-Horsham associate head coach Nicole Meletto:
–The game: “We hung in there a little bit tonight, but we missed too many easy shots and struggled on the boards. We are still without one of our starters and hope to get her back next week.”
–Props: “Sophomore Sarah Gleason played extremely well for us tonight on the defensive end. That kid will do whatever you ask of her and do it with 110 percent effort. Tennent has a good team with some really nice talented players, and they are going to score and finish their shots. We did okay handling their pressure but we weren’t any to take care of the basketball and were careless.”

NESHAMINY 51, NORTH PENN 31
The Redskins put on a defensive clinic in the first half, keep the visiting Knights off the scoreboard in the opening quarter and allowing just six first-half points. They led 7-0 after one quarter and then put some distance between themselves and their visitors with a 16-6 second quarter to go into halftime with a 23-6 lead on their way to the win. Ashlyn Duffy’s 10 points – seven in the second quarter – led the Redskins in the first half.
By the numbers: Hayley Kolk’s 17 points, which included a pair of 3-pointers, led the Redskins. She scored 13 of those points in the second half and also contributed four assists and four blocked shots. Ashlyn Duffy also finished in double figures with 12, which included 10 points (3 3-pointers) in the opening half. Grace Weyler’s five rebounds led the ‘Skins under the boards. Mia Raivitch shared the team lead with four assists.
Neshaminy coach John Gallagher:
–Key players: “The key to the victory was our team defense, especially in the first half. We were able to hold North Penn to one field goal and just six points in the first half. The team defense was led by Hayley Kolk who held Lily Brown scoreless for the game. Hayley set an early tone by blocking Lily early in the game several times. Mia Raivitch added to the team defense by holding Paityn Debro to zero field goals in the game. Paitlyn was coming off a 22-point effort vs Central Bucks East which included 10 field goals.”
–Props: “We came off a couple of good practices before this game, but there was concern seeing how well North Penn played earlier in the week against CB East. In watching Paityn this year, we were impressed by the great strides she made from playing JV last year. Her offseason work has made a huge impact on her game, and she is only a sophomore.
“I feel as though Nicole and Grace did a good job of making the North Penn guards start their offense higher than they may have liked. This made the entry passes to Lily and Paityn more difficult and easier to defend. Freshman Kate Cieri found some quality varsity minutes as she was also able to apply good ball pressure to assist our overall team defense.
“Camryn Rodriguez, who started our last three games, was our first player off the bench this evening and added nine points and a tremendous amount of energy in any role we require of her. Ashlyn Duffy got us off to a strong start in the first half notching ten points in the first two quarters. Ashlyn is very important to our team defense as she spreads the floor and allows some of our other players to gain access to the lane where they can finish or draw fouls on the opposition.”

The two teams battled to an 18-18 halftime tie, and the Spartans took the lead in the third quarter when they limited the Trojans to just two points and – sparked by four points from both Keira Brandon and Caitlin Lewis – went on top 29-19 heading into the final quarter. They held off the Trojans for the big win.
Key players: Ava Culler, just back from an injury, led a balanced attack with 11 points. Mary Kate Garry had 10 points, which included nine points in the first half on three 3s.
For the Trojans, Katelyn Thomson led the way with 14 points, and Maura Jacob had seven points.
Springfield Twp coach Dave Giordano:
–The game: “Tonight was a really good defensive battle with my old friends from Wissahickon. I think what it came down to tonight was the defensive job that we did in the third quarter and the (defensive) effort on Katelyn Thomson. We did our best to slow her down. She’s a tough one to stop, but we rotated two and three girls on her, and I think just some of her shots just didn’t go in.”
–Props: “A great effort tonight by Ava Culler, both offensively and defensively and a shoutout to Carly Hartman, Caitlin Lewis, Olivia Beck and Julia Guicheteau, who we rotated on Katelyn Thomson and Kai Potter, and we had some timely scoring from Keira Brandon and Mary Kate Garry.”
Wissahickon coach Kathie Sims:
–The game: “Despite the outcome, the girls delivered a strong performance tonight. Our shots weren’t always falling, but the team played with great hustle, stayed connected and made smart decision with their shot selection throughout the game.”

The Colonials, who led 8-3 after one quarter, opened up a 19-8 halftime lead on their way to the crossover win. Grace Harvey’s nine-point effort sparked the Colonials in the second quarter.
Key players: Eliza Meersman came within one rebound of a double-double, scoring a game-high 14 and pulling down nine rebounds. Grace Harvey added 13 points, which included a pair of 3-pointers. She scored 12 of those points in the first half. Liv Patete had six rebounds.
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Dan Dougherty: “Really solid, ‘mature’ win by our group tonight. Having played a game yesterday, we didn’t have a practice to get them prepared. So, the kids showed up early, had an energetic walkthrough and shoot around and carried that into the start of the game. Both teams struggled to score, but it was because of solid defense at both ends. Proud of our group for competing so hard this week (4th game of the week).”
–Props: “Good to see Grace Harvey get some shots to fall, she was a big spark in the first half. Eliza Meersman had another standout game as well.
“I have to highlight effort by Brooke Peduzzi this week. Another multi-sport athlete (volleyball) who is giving this team everything she’s got. She has shown a lot of poise and leadership this year despite not getting in the box score very often. She’s playing 25-plus minutes most nights, and playing her role on the team perfectly.”

UPPER MORELAND 56, POTTSGROVE 50
The Golden Bears, who trailed 25-21 at halftime, still found themselves on the short end of a 39-35 score heading into the final quarter when they erupted for 21 points to finally put away a tough Pottsgrove squad.
“It was a great team win,” UM coach Josh Adelman said. “It was Senior Night and there was a big crowd, and to see the team rise to the occasion and ride the cheers and excitement to a victory was great to see.”
Key players: Hailey Kramer scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth, and Mia Taliaferro scored seven of her 12 points in the fourth quarter. Hailey Milks also reached double figures in scoring for the Bears, finishing with 11 points.
Upper Moreland coach Josh Adelman:
–The game: “The Golden Bears played another back-and-forth game with a good opponent and found themselves on the winning end. It came down to the final quarter where (we) scored 21 points.
“It was a team effort for sure. Seven players scored and multiple players seemed to come up big at the most opportune times. A jumper here, a lay-up there, getting to the foul line, and simply earning the win was a good sign that we are improving as a team.”
–Props: “It seemed like Hailey Kramer and Mia Taliaferro carried the team on their shoulders and simply out-hustled Pottsgrove to the 50-50 balls and came up with several timely steals and lay-ups. The team also was boosted by the play of Hailey Milks, who returned from a prolonged injury to score 11 points and grab countless rebounds.”
