Check out the results for SOL girls’ basketball teams in action on Tuesday night.
WISSAHICKON 53, BENSALEM 26
The Trojans opened up a 13-8 lead after one quarter and took a 24-16 lead into halftime before blowing the game wide open with a 17-3 tear in the third quarter.
“Our defense is our staple,” Trojan coach Rodney Cline said. “We try and create turnovers, try to score in transition and just continuously pressure the entire time.
“We just try to create a defensive mindset. It’s all about work ethic and creating the mentality – never give up, never quit, keep your foot on the gas, keep pressing as hard as hard as you can.
“Last year, all those younger girls being able to get that experience and a lot of hard work that they put in during the offseason allowed us to do what we did today. I’m happy for them. They deserve it, they earned it, but have a short memory. Enjoy it, but let’s get ready for tomorrow.”
The Trojans were led offensively by Sydney Ott with 16 points – which included four three-pointers – while Julianne Griffin added 12 points.
“Sydney is a gym rat – she works on her game all the time,” Cline said. “She just came in relaxed, didn’t squeeze the ball too hard, and when the opportunity presented itself, she just knocked it down. She had four three’s. She took her shot in rhythm, she didn’t force it.
“Julianne worked on her game in the offseason, and her footwork inside and her post play – she’s a presence in there. She’s not thinking about it. She just reacts and feels where she should go and what she should do. The thing that makes her so versatile is she’s able to pass out of the post. She can see the floor very well. She’s very confident with the ball in her hands. That’s a great transition from last year to this year, her progression in post play.”
Also for the Trojans, Victoria Selverian added eight points.
Wissahickon (1-0) will host Pennridge on Wednesday night. Bensalem (1-2) will be on the road at Neshaminy for Thursday’s SOL National Conference opener.

QUAKERTOWN 67, UPPER PERKIOMEN 23
The Panthers raced to an 18-2 lead after one quarter and extended that lead to 35-8 by halftime on their way to the no-doubt-about-it non-league win over the visiting Indians.
Point guard Maggie Garlick led a balanced Panther attack with 16 points, and senior Jill Martin added 14 points. Caitlin Rosenberger contributed 10 points, and Marina Cooke had nine. Sam Howard added seven points.
“Maggie Garlick played really well,” coach Brittany Remmey said. “She had 16 points but also her composure on the court – she was much more focused.
“I don’t necessarily like her being at the point. I would rather her be on the wing, but she knows when to slow the game down and get the team under control.
“Marina Cooke, a senior, came out with guns blazing tonight. She was definitely a fire starter for us, which is exactly what we need to get the game going. Jill Martin finished under the basket, and my freshman, Caitlin Rosenberger, had 10. She’s a freshman, and you’re going to make mistakes, but I love the energy she brings, especially when we’re in the press, and she crashes the board.”
While Upper Perk had just three players contribute scoring, the Panthers had 10.
“We have some experienced players, but there’s also some newer kids, who will give us some energy,” Remmey said.
Quakertown (1-1) will host Pottstown in a non-league contest on Saturday at 7 p.m.
