In the third quarter, the Lions began to put some separation between themselves and their opponents, opening up a 35-25 lead heading into the final quarter. Martin accounted for 10 of her team’s 13 points in the third quarter. The Lions added to their lead in the fourth quarter.
Key players: Mollie Martin 20 points, Emma DiJoseph 12 points, Sydney Santora 11 points.
Lower Moreland coach Andy Krasna:
–The game: “We were deliberate in our offense in the second half of a hard-fought battle, playing with intelligence and dictating the tempo in the third and fourth quarters. In the first half, it felt like we were speed skating on ice with Frankford at a lightning pace. At half time, we talked about better dictating the tempo, working for higher percentage shots and keeping Frankford off the offensive boards. We accomplished all three of those goals and were able to get some separation from Frankford.
“Our initial defense on many possessions got us stops but our ability to keep Frankford players boxed out early on was hard to do. A credit to Frankford for an incredible effort on the boards that we hope to replicate as the season progresses.”
–Props: “We had some balanced scoring and good movement off the ball which created some good looks at the basket. Junior guards Emma DiJoseph, Sydney Santora, and Mollie Martin were great in transition and all three played off each other in the half court.
“Mollie has been back in action for only six weeks after a long layoff, and I have been encouraging her to be patient (with herself) as she plays her way back to a high level. Tonight, she had her offense going and I could feel her getting more confident as the game progressed.
“Emma played with great pace tonight, letting the game come to her and knocking down some timely shots in the flow of the game. Sydney was our playmaker tonight, drawing defenders, finding open teammates and still scoring in double figures.”
Up next: Lower Moreland will host William Tennent Friday.
