Upper Dublin junior Tamia Clark surpassed the 1,000-point milestone in Upper Dublin’s win over Notre Dame Academy. Neshaminy also notched a win. Check out Sunday’s recaps.

Cardinal O’Hara Holiday Tournament
UPPER DUBLIN 50, NOTRE DAME 34
(Check back for more on Tamia Clark’s historic day)
Late in the third quarter, UD junior Tamia Clark surpassed the 1,000-point milestone, highlighting arguably the Cardinals’ most impressive win of the season
“I couldn’t have been happier with the girls, how they played,” UD coach Morgan Funsten said. “And I told them after the game that the scariest part is we can still play better. We can still play a lot better than we played today. And that’s the coolest thing.
“We’re going to try to hold ourselves to a high standard in practice, and we’re going to try to keep getting better. They have the work ethic, and they have the focus, so I’m excited to keep grinding with this team.”
Heading into Sunday’s contest, the Cardinals knew they were in for a challenge when they faced the defending Inter-Ac champions. So did their coach.
“Carroll needed a buzzer beater to beat Notre Dame, and Notre Dame beat Imhotep by 30,” Funsten said. “You watch them on film, and their offense is so fluid. He (coach Terry Mancini) runs such good stuff. They’re very experienced. They make great reads as a team. They’re very difficult to prepare for, so obviously, I was concerned about that.
“They have great balance, they have great size, so they kind of have it all. Defensively, they’re very physical and experienced, so we knew we had our hands full. I was not expecting the result that we had today. We had to come to play.”
And come to play they did, turning a modest 25-21 halftime lead into a decisive 50-34 win.
“We got down 16-12 early,” Funsten said. “Most of the way they were scoring were the ways that they typically score, and that was what we were really trying to disrupt.
“From there on out, I thought we did a great job, forcing them into things that they were not comfortable doing. The best part of the game – we only gave up two points in the third quarter. It was a total team effort.”
Clark’s 11 points led the Cards in the first half. Emilia Coleman added seven.
The Cards scored just nine points in the third quarter – including Clark’s historic basket, but they allowed a dangerous Notre Dame squad to score just two. UD took a 34-23 lead into the final quarter that saw the Cards hold a 16-11 scoring advantage. Coleman was the Cards’ offensive catalyst in the second half, scoring 15 points.
Key players: Senior Emilia Coleman’s 22 points – which included four 3s – led the Cards. She also had six rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Tamia Clark finished with 19 points, which included a 6-for-6 effort at the foul line. She also had five rebounds. Megan Ngo dished out 11 assists and also had five rebounds and four steals. Bridget DiMartile was a defensive catalyst with eight blocks to go along with five rebounds.
Coach Morgan Funsten:
–Clark a force at both ends: “Tamia played Riley Davis and held her to eight points. She finished with 19 points, and I thought she played very relaxed for knowing that the milestone was close. She was very simple offensively, didn’t try to force things and was just really solid. She was 6-for-6 from the line.”
DiMartile stands tall: “Bridget DiMartile started her first game of the year, and she played Grace Nasr and was giving up about five inches to her. I thought she was very physical in the post. Bridget had eight blocks today, which is crazy. It wasn’t all on Nasr. Sometimes she’d have to help. She scored zero points, but as a coach and a father and everything like that, we try to explain how important you can be to the team without scoring.
“Bridget’s never cared about that. That’s not how everybody works, but it’s why she’s so successful in the three sports that she plays because she just goes out and competes. She cares about the stuff that matters. And Bridget was awesome today. At times, she was our best player, and we had some great individual performances. We needed her today, and she stepped up. And despite not scoring any points, she was very valuable to us.”
–Props: “Emelia Coleman missed about her first four or five 3s, and then she got hot, and she was our high scorer with 22 points. Megan Ngo was all over the place. She finished with 11 assists. We as a team have struggled to defensive rebound. And today we still gave up some offensive rebounds, but we’re working on it, and we’re getting better at it. And Meg, she’s always doing the little things right to help us rebound.”
Up next: Upper Dublin will take on Villa Maria Academy Monday (3pm).

BOARDWALK CLASSIC
(Michelle Tarbotton-Rucci Showcase)
NESHAMINY 51, WILDWOOD CATHOLIC ACADEMY 28
The Redskins – behind 11 points from Nicole Trespalacios – opened up a 15-5 lead after one quarter and added to that lead in the second. Ashlyn Duffy had a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter, and Neshaminy took a 25-10 lead into halftime on their way to the no-doubt-about-it win.
By the numbers: Nicole Trespalacios led Neshaminy with 15 points. She also had five rebounds. Hayley Kolk and Ashlyn Duffy both had nine points. Kolk also had eight rebounds.
Neshaminy coach John Gallagher:
–Key players: “Mia Raivitch had five rebounds and assisted on seven Neshaminy baskets and created numerous good looks for her teammates throughout the game. Nicole Trespalacios played aggressively and got into the paint on several occasions, causing trouble for the Wildwood guards.”
–Props: “Senior Camryn Rodriguez got her first career start and gave our team a huge lift while gathering eight rebounds with four of them on the offensive end. Wildwood Catholic has a couple of very talented perimeter players, and we were very concerned about their ability to shoot from distance and get into the paint. Mia, Nicole and Hayley did an outstanding job on those three players, limiting them to just six points in the first half. Our overall team defense was very good in the first half. Wildwood Catholic is a well-coached team and has been off to a fast start this year. We felt as though we had a size advantage and our players did a good job exploiting that while owning the boards.”
–A bonding time: “We just got back from a team dinner with many of our players and their parents joining us. It is good to see the healthy interaction between the players when not attached to their phones. These moments in a high school career are meant to be memorable, and tonight was a step in that direction.”
Up next: Neshaminy will face Padua Academy on Monday (10am).
