Non-league
WISSAHICKON 44, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 32
Sparked by the 21-point effort of freshman Kaitlyn McGeary, the Trojans – who trailed by three at halftime – outscored their hosts 23-8 in the second half to earn the important non-league win.
“It was a good win for the girls,” Wissahickon coach Rodney Cline said. “I was happy for them. They continue to work and try and get better each practice, each game. It’s a long season, but the girls have continued to work with each other and for each other, and the more we do that – the better we’re going to get, and the more we’re going to progress.
“I’m really proud of them, and it gets us closer to the postseason. We either win or go home. Every game is a playoff game for us right now.”
The Golden Hawks, who trailed 15-11 after one quarter, took a 24-21 lead into halftime. The second half was another story entirely.
“The key to that was just figuring out what was working,” Cline said. “We play multiple defenses and try to keep them off-balance. We were playing really well in the 2-3, making them shoot over us.
“In the first half, they hit a couple of 3s, and in the second half, we contested them as much as we could. We knew our responsibilities, we were communicating and making sure our tree limbs were up. We did what we had to do. I was proud of the girls. We rebounded the ball really well. We held them to one and done.”
McGeary had a strong game under the basket for the Trojans, and included in her 21 points was a 5-for-5 effort at the foul line.
“In games, you have to make adjustments on defense, and it’s the same on offense,” the Trojans’ coach said. “You have to see what’s working.
“We realized if we worked the ball and fed the ball inside – if they didn’t collapse and double down, she was very efficient down there, so we continued to get the ball inside. She converted. Our whole thing with her is – if you don’t put twos in, make sure you get to the free throw line, and she hit her free throws as well.”
Wissahickon (8-12, 4-8 SOL) will travel to Upper Dublin on Tuesday, and Council Rock South (9-11, 5-5) will be on the road at William Tennent Tuesday.

Ava Sciolla buried four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Falcons to the non-league win. The sophomore point guard also
had eight rebounds, three assists and four steals in another stellar outing.
The Falcons, who led 10-2 after one quarter, took a 23-9 lead into halftime. Sciolla accounted for eight of those points. Abbi Nassivera and Nicole Pompili – back in the lineup after suffering a wrist injury – both had four.
The Falcons took a 32-17 lead into the final quarter.
“We came out very solid defensively for the first three quarters,” Pennsbury coach Frank Sciolla said. “Neither team shot the ball well, but at times we got out in transition and that helped us.
“It was nice to see Mia Spinelli active on the backboards, and Kiley Haws came off the bench and did some nice things defensively.”
Also for the Falcons, Abbi Nassivera and Haws both had six points. Haws connected on a pair of 3-pointers.
Monday’s game was a late addition to the schedule after the Falcons lost their game against Trinity because of snow. It was a rematch of the title game at the season-opening Hatboro-Horsham Tournament – a 37-27 Pennsbury win.
Pennsbury (17-3, 9-1 SOL) will travel to Harry S Truman on Tuesday.

SOUDERTON 44, GWYNEDD MERCY ACADEMY 33
Mikaela Reese turned in yet another standout performance for the Indians. The senior captain finished with a game-high 19 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots.
The Indians struggled offensively in the first quarter and managed just one field goal – a Jordan Zimmerman three – against a stingy Gwynedd defense. Still, they trailed by just one heading into the second quarter when they scored 11 points and took a 16-11 lead into halftime.
Reese came to life offensively in the second half, scoring seven in the third quarter and five more in the third to ensure there would be no Gwynedd comeback. The senior captain connected on 7-of-10 shots from the field and buried all five of her shots in the second half, which included a pair of 3s. She also was 2-for-2 at the foul line.
Also for the Indians, Hayley Fenchel had six points. Freshman point guard Casey Harter had four points, four blocks and four assists.
“Casey played outstanding defense on (Kaylie) Griffin,” Souderton coach Lynn Carroll said. “She also handled the ball well and made great decisions against their pressure.
“Mikaela played well in every facet of the game. We really moved the ball well and assisted on 12 of 15 field goals.”
Kaylie Griffin’s eight points led the Monarchs.
