Non-league
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 61, GREAT VALLEY 32

It took just one quarter for the Golden Hawks to seize complete control of this one as they opened up a 21-6 lead after one quarter and a 43-18 advantage at halftime. Sarah Freeman set the tone for the high-scoring half, burying four 3-pointers in the first half. Kat O’Kane had eight points in the half for the Hawks, who rolled to the lopsided win.
Key players: Sarah Freeman was the 3-point catalyst, burying five and scoring 15 points. Kat O’Kane added 10 points, and Maria Freeman also got into the act, burying three 3 -pointers for nine points.
Council Rock South assistant Blair Klumpp: “We shot the ball really well today as a group. We were dribbling a little too much early, but once we started moving the ball, we got quality shots. We hit ten threes in the first half.
“Our focus in practice was preparing for the next part of our season, and we are excited to participate in the SOL Tournament and host a game – we have not had that before. When you get to this point of the season, you know you’re facing quality, so we are looking forward to that opportunity as well. Our girls have done a really good job of staying focused on the next game ahead and taking everything one day at a time. We are looking forward to Friday’s matchup with Neshaminy.”
–Props: “Sarah (Freeman) shot the ball really well and hit contested shots. She’s done a really good job of playing to her strengths the last few weeks. Maria (Freeman) and Lil (Metrick) shot it well and did a nice job stepping to open space. When the ball moves good, we are tough to guard all five girls. Our emphasis to our shooters in general has been stay shot ready and be confident – we know because of how some teams prepare for us, some girls are going to have opportunities to get quality looks, and we have to be able to capitalize.
“Kat (O’Kane) was really fluid in our offense and taking advantage of what the defense was giving her. Kat, Lil, and Fi (Reckner) all had multiple drives that collapsed defenders and kicked to shooters. Fi and Bella (Hettler) did a nice job defensively and getting us out in transition. Gill (Martin) made an impact in the first half getting on the floor for loose ball Noelle (Lamb) and Ruby (Bross) gave us some good bench minutes in the first half as well.”
Up next: Council Rock South (19-3, 9-1 SOL) will host Neshaminy in an opening round game of the SOL Tournament Friday (4 pm).
