#1-7 DOWNINGTOWN EAST 11, #1-4 CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 10 (OT)
The Bucks have the corner of the market in heartbreaking losses this postseason. Thursday’s playback loss that brought an end to their season was their third one-goal loss in as many games.
Things looked promising in Thursday’s contest when the Bucks took a 7-5 lead into halftime, but the visiting Cougars came roaring back.
“Just a couple too many turnovers in transition at key moments and some missed draws in the second half gave us limited possession time in the second half,” West coach Tara Schmucker said. “But we got the draw and an opportunity in overtime, but it just was not meant to be. This was certainly a better effort than our last 8-13 (regular season) loss against them.”
Finley Ueland – who led the Bucks with three goals and two assists – reached a milestone in the loss, scoring her 200th career goal.
“It was bittersweet for her obviously, but it’s an awesome milestone,” Schmucker said. “She has been a fantastic team player these past four years.”
Casey Reichwein, Dani Dundas and Maddie Madio each had a pair of goals. Dundas also had two assists. Emma Haring added a single goal.
“Maddie Maio and Lucy Varner had some tremendous defensive stops for us,” Schmucker said. “It's hard to see the successful season end after three straight tight losses, but the team had a great year, and I am proud of the captains and seniors for getting the girls up for each game.
“Despite having almost half the attack and half the defense new this year, they did a tremendous job and many people stepped for us this season.”
Central Bucks West (7-1 SOL) closed out its season with a share of the SOL National Conference title and a 16-6 record.
