District 1 2A semifinal
#7 MOUNT ST JOSEPH 14, #3 UPPER MORELAND 4
The Mount opened up a 7-2 halftime lead and duplicated that in the second half to earn the win in Thursday’s District 1 2A semifinal contest.
“This was a tough one for us tonight,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “We just couldn’t click as a team today – sometimes that happens in sports.
“Mount did a great job in transition and their goalie had a fantastic game. Mount did well with the draws tonight, and we just couldn’t come up with the ball enough to score. Our defense definitely made Mount work hard for their goals, with long stretches of defense until goals were scored often off an 8-meter. It wasn’t the battle or game we had hoped for, but tomorrow is a new day and we look forward to another home game on Tuesday for the playback game.”
For the Golden Bears, Reagan Cummins had a pair of goals while Annalise Messina and Jenna Piantier each contributed one goal and two assists.
UM goalie Addi Hurley recorded 13 saves.
Thursday’s loss snapped an impressive 17-game winning streak for the Golden Bears.
“We haven’t lost a game since March, and so mentally we need to figure it out and move forward – the best thing is we still have more lacrosse to play,” Frantz said. “An off day is just that and tomorrow we start again.”
Upper Moreland (18-3, 10-1 SOL) will host #8 Gwynedd Mercy in Tuesday’s third place game at 3:30 p.m.
